There tends to be a culture of looking up to those with very high post counts around here. I'm not sure if those members who have 10,000+ posts are doing so because they do enjoy the extra publicity they receive or just because they enjoy using the site and it's features, and nor is it my position to judge. I will say a couple of things though;

Mostly when I look at users with very high post counts I assume (which may or may not be the case) that the majority of them spend a lot of the time in the Forum Games section, which can encourage high post counts through the very nature of the games which are presented in there.

I think that the ability to increase your post count via communication in the user groups is a odd quirk of the system, as the post doesn't offically come up in your latest posts section yet your count still increases. Personally I'd eliminate this feature, it's not like your post count increases when you send a PM for example.

It's true that a higher post count does earn you extra respect around here, a notion popularised by some of our most prolific posters such as Max the Reaper. However, it's worth keeping in mind that a high post count is not necessarily the only way to be respected by your fellow Escapists, and a lot of users (such as NewClassic) have been highly respected for the content of their posts rather than the number of them.

Of course this is merely my personal take on the matter. I'm probably biased in that once a user goes over say, an arbitary number like 2000 posts I'm more likley to pay attention to what they say, but that comes with being around here for a while and recognising a lot of the users who've spent longer on here. Really it's the content that matters most, and ridiculously high counts make me think Forum Games and/or user groups rather than actual deep content.

That's my take anyway.

I just think "Wow..." because most of them have been here for less time than I have. You know, I don't even have 5k yet and when people have 10k and they've been here for like half a year it just confuses me.

I don't look at post count, I look at either how long they've been here or if they're put on probation and for what.
Wow our join dates are very similar. Same here. I like to look at join date rather than post count. I've been here for quite a while and I have a very low post count compared to some people that joined in mid 2009-2010.

I don't really pay attention to post counts unless they're brand new here.
The fact you have more than 10,000 posts in less than a year annoys me. I don't know why, it just does.

I bet you're a nice lad (or ladette), but on here I think you need to get out a little.
...meanie.

In all honesty, I probably should get out more, but I'm out every weekend. I go to movies at least twice a week, I go out to eat at least once a day and I'm normally out all day. Albeit, not with anyone, but I'm still out.

I do most of my posting at night which is when I stay up latest.

I don't know why I felt the need to explain myself to you, but I do, so I did.
*hugs and pets*

I didn't mean it as a mean thing! At least you're out there. :) As long as you're not cooped up inside all day and night posting low content posts, you're good in my books =]

If I see a high post count, the first thing I'll do is check when they joined and stop caring.

Depends on the quality of the post to me. If a poster is mature and insightful, than a large post count is more of a triumph. You can learn from those posters. Where as a youthful poster many times will comment to address another topic altogether. That doesn't really serve a purpose except self fullfillment, so a large post count is a negative from the lack of useful knowledge it gives; a large quantity of low quality.

The crazy banana was my rating because your poll to me has neither a true positive or negative choice. Doesn't really serve the complexity of the question to me. I wager others feel the same.

I like it here on the Escapist, but seriously, only the saddest shells of men and women can spend so much time here.

Short answer: They have no lives beyond the internet, they need serious help.
The temptation to place an "O RLY?" owl here is intriguing.

I look up to them and think wow I wish I had that many post counts... and then I remember I have a life... and then I post on threads like this and furthermore help my transformation into the over-post demon

That's an average of 97 posts per day. Nearly 100 posts EVERY SINGLE DAY! ...

Your O RLY? Owl has been answered, this is my reason.
You yourself have 8.27 posts a day though Zeek, I've got 15.6. There's a difference between burst posters and long-term posters though.
