How do you feel about cheating in video games? I only cheat a game after I beat it once without cheating, and only in games that make me angry. (What's that overpowered boss? It's not fair that I have overpowered weapons? You should have thought of that before you took half my health with one attack.... 27 times in a row!)

does this inclued hacking, cause that could open a big can of worms... im sure it has been talked about many times....

but even still I dont cheat, hack or whatever.... i always liked the idea of doing things knowing i did it without help.... mind you I did print out a map for the GTA3+ games to find all the packages, tags etc...so maybe I do cheat a little...

The only time I ever cheat is if I've beaten the game already. Cheating takes out more fun then most people realize.

I cheat when I can honestly not think of another alternative to get past something.

Some older games do have those particular over the top bosses that make it frustrating.

Or the developers neglected to include major points about the game, like Homeworld 2's "Adaptive AI" which just counts the total values of your fleet and in the next level the hostiles spawn with not only the equal amount of ships, but said ships are the counters to what forces you have.

Sometimes; But NEVER online. I can't stand asshats that do that.

I've cheated for both lack of understanding (we've all been stuck in some game at least once), and for fun. What's that? I can mod a jackal shield to be dual weildable in Halo 2...

I never cheat in online games, because it's totally gay.
In offline I only use "noclip" when stuck somewhere and can't move.

If I am stuck in a level with no clue what to do, then I may look up hints or whatever (like in Lego Star Wars with the fucking force lightning bullshit) but never to get an unfair advantage. I prefer to play the game as the makers intended, with the occasional hint-for-the-slow hlep that will let me beat a level.

The only cheats I use are purely aesthetic (such as hyperspeed in Guitar Hero, though that's not really a cheat) or if I've beaten the game already. If I get stuck on a part and can't see any alternative to passing it than cheating, I put the game aside. I am a poor gamer for the number of years I've put into gaming, because I cheated for most of it. I will not stoop that low again.

Edit: And I do not look at using GameFAQs as cheating. Telling you what to do does not help you do it. To use an analogy, using FAQs is like teaching a man to fish, while using cheats is like handing him the fish.

I use cheats to play the game I want to play.

For instance, WC3 is a little slow at times, so whats the answer? WARPTEN

I've used guides several times, though I don't regard it as cheating. I only really cheated when I wasn't very old, in for example Warcraft or Age of Empires, where I didn't really understood how to play the game, and had to cheat to advance.

Generally I oppose cheating, because it takes the challenge and the fun out of a game. There's nothing fun about creating a character in Diablo 2 and buffing him or her up with the best gear, making the game completely without a challange.

I do if I'm just messing around (usually in GTA IV), but I usually save a space with no cheats in for doing the story. I did get forced to cheat on HL2:ep2 though because an npc got stuck in a piece of scenery and couldn't progress (I had to manually load the map then use the all weapons and ammo cheat because I then didn't have enough ammo for the fight)

On the ps2, when I found a part of a game too hard to finish, or I get bored of a game, I used Gameshark. It never really ruined the experience for me. Sometimes, it made the game even more fun.

When I played Starcraft or Age of Empires, I always used cheats because I hated gathering resources and exploring the map to uncover areas. It made the game pretty fun for me.

Lastly, after about maybe a quarter through GTA 4, I found out about phone cheats and started using them, mainly for health/weapons and wanted down. It made the game more enjoyable for me, since driving away from the cops was a real pain in the ass.

I did, but not any more. And before I only did it because I couldn't be arsed to complete a game properly, not any hacking or anything.

On a side note, this should be in the gaming forum.

I have cheated, but I can't really call it cheating... since 'cheating' is breaking the rules to win...

I basically cheat to see levels/items/data otherwise removed from the game. most of wich is useless. here's some examples of usless things:

Wi-Fi Brother Band items in Lunar Knights (Wi-Fi removed from english version, making these items complete pointless since Wi-Fi with StarForce was needed to give them power)

Rulebook, etc. in Pokémon Daimond (The rule would change the wi-fi battle rules, but the plan was canceled (even in the japanes version), however the item was left in the game, it does nothing, however, since there was no coding added for it's planned effects.)

The stuff that actually was useful, but removed from the game I only access if it was only removed from my version bat was still in others, example:

E-Card customizing thing from BattleNetwork 3... or 4, I for got wich. (It was in the japanese version, and removed from the north american version, the coding was still intact, though.)

Any other cheating is done after I beat it once, first to make it harder, then to (in common terms) blow it to bits after I beat it on my custom insane mode.

I've given an enemy foot soldier infinate health by accident once... it was very amusing to have me try to instant kill it in one shot with my modified 'pea shooter' doing between 0-3 damage waiting for the instant death chance of 1% to kick in. Took 7 hours to kill him. I love unmodifiable special abilities of certain weapons.

I only cheated on two games to see the ending and they were Oddworld: Stranger's wrath and Abe's Exodus because they're too freaking hard. There wasn't a 'I cheat for fun option' which is what I do on San Andreas to make it fun, like for infinite ammo/health, weapon sets, spawn a Hydra whenever you want etc.

Multiplayer cheating is bad, but say, Cheat Codes in single-player, I have no problem with. I will never get over use the godmode cheat in Warcraft 3 to beat 11 computers on insane with one hero.

I don't think I've even used the Konami code... the closest I've come to cheating on a game is to use a walk-through or hint book, and only when I'm absolutely stuck on what to do next without getting so annoyed at the game itself to decide that I'm better off just quitting.

Usually I figure that if I have to break the game to play it, either the game's busted or just not for me.

And just for future reference, I'm only talking about single player cheating as multi-player cheaters have a circle of hell they are all going to.

only after i finish the game - or in games like COD4 where i unlock them. There are definitely fewer games with cheats this gen though - of the 15 odd games i own for my ps3 - only about 3 have cheats i can tap in :(
