Pokemon. We all know it, and I bet a good chunk of us own or have owned atleast one of the games. (I expect a sweeping number of Red/Blue)

However, Pokemon seems to have a stigma of childishness attached to it. While likely aimed at younger people from the start, the games certainly appealed to casual kiddies, but also the hardcore as well. Ultimatly it is likely the anime's fault of super love and friendship and Ash getting the disease the Simpsons have keeping Ash at 14 or so.

Anyways, my question is as stated, what do you individually feel about Pokemon as a whole? Is it all for kids? Is a 20 something year old playing Pokemon Silver or Emerald someone who needs to grow up? Or does the stigma not really affect all of the franchise?

Mostly I am curious about the views on the games than anything (hence Game Discussion forum)

Up to Ruby is ok. They were good games but everything after just needed to die.
We share the same view. I refuse to go past Gen III, since even by then, the quality of the pokemon started to fall. Too many new baby forms or dumb extra evovled forms, or just rehashing of old pokemon. Plus I hate Lucario with a passion.

I still sort of like the games, but it seems like each time the dev team think of more ways to screw the players over. Making some pokes evolve are getting laughably difficult, HM slaves are still necessary, and their a sometimes 4+ Legendaries to my one master ball. So I'm dreading how frustrating Black and White will be.

Never been a big Pokemon fan, but I dont see anything wrong with the series. Who cares if its aimed at children? If your having fun, then its a good game in my book, regardless of what audience it might be aimed at.

the first game i owned and didnt play by going to friends houses was pokemon red on a gameboy color it was the most amazing thing i had ever experienced and even though now i mostly play things like tf2 and borderlands i will always stick with the pokemon franchise. the last generation was my least favorite but i think it will get better what with black and white making all new pokemon not just adding to the old.

i hope it reflects the awesomeness that was gold and silver and that they dont flood with legendaries like they did in diamond and pearl.

Well, I do hate the fact that, despite the goal being to catch them all, its almost impossible. Only Red/Blue can you do it, but even then you have to do a glitch to get Mew. Later games, pokemon like Mew and Celebi require special events from Nintendo...and an e-Reader....and the japanese version.

I like them. I mean, they're good time killers, and you cant be as involved or as distant as you want and still be able to play. If you only play for a few hours at an appointment or waiting for a train, then its good for keeping bordom away. But if you are competitive then its detailed and involved enough to keep anyone busy.

I just like the games to make actual additions worth adding. like new moves and abilities, as well as new in game elements. I.e. I'm STILL waiting for gamefreak to give flareon a good physical fire STAB move other then fire fang.

I'm not big on the new ones, but Red/Blue will always have a special place in my heart. Right above hummingbirds and right below hot chocolate.

Usually down, maybe at a slight angle. It all depends on how I hold my DS.

In all seriousness, fell in love with Blue. RSE was alright, DP were okay though overshadowed by Platinum. I never cared fro GSC/HHSS, as I found the story lacking and arbitrary. The villains were just kinda handwaved away with no real build up, and it offers no real reason as to why the legendary MUST be defeated before fighting the Elite Four.

I completely agree although it would be good if they stopped making just Turn-Based RPG's and focused more on their new and frankly better ideas Mystery dungeon, Pokemon Ranger etc.

I still love the Pokemon games (planning to get Black or White when it comes out) and I don't care that I'm technically an adult.

I'm torn on the issue. On one hand, I liked the older series of games (I stopped at Gold and Silver). I grew out of it after that, largely because it was the same game and routine I had already aced long ago. I haven't been around it ever since, except for my college classmates who still play it, and I haven't had an interest in going back. Black & White might change my mind, if only for the fact that the aesthetics will be different (older Player Characters, more urban environment, etc), but I'll never be as big a fan of the series as I once was. Those days have come and gone, and that's all there is to it.
