They're insanely deep and strategic RPG's hiding under a child-like veil.

They're really, really fun and I love them very much.

For a second I thought there was a version of pokemon named "Pear". XD

Anyway, I feel conflicted about Pokemon. Having started at the Red/Blue games, played through to Fire Red/Leaf Green, I can say that they were certainly fun. However, now that I'm an adult learning skills that actually matter to the rest of my life, I really want to get the first 151 pokemon names out of my head.

I played red/blue/yellow back in the day and then forgot about the series. Only recently did I go back to play diamond/pearl and I would have to say that I was impressed. Seem I'm one of the few who liked it.

I played the older games a few times on my mates Gameboys, but I never owned one until Platinum came out. And now that I have it I doubt I will ever buy another Pokemon game again. There's nothing particularly wrong with the series and I'm finding it fun in short bursts, but it's pretty much the exact same game as the old ones. Bar a few additions to the Pokemons stats, such as their temperaments and what sort of food they like, there is no difference between Platinum and Red/Blue. Sure, there are "new" Pokemon, but they learn the exact same moves as the old ones. That's not new, that's just a slightly less lazy palette swap.

It is gradually getting more and more kid friendly as time goes on but I love it as much as I loved it when I was a kid.

They'll really have to disappoint me to chase me away.

They all look nice but I personally stopped playing after ruby/sapphire. I think it's because I never bothered to get a Nintendo DS

All I can say after reading that article is......wow............
I know it's hilarious...
If you don't mind me asking, how on earth did you find this?
You may think that's funny, and I laughed as well, until I remembered that my parents really believed that. My childhood sucked.
Pokemon is awesome. "Growing out" of something is just saying that you're less honest about what you like now.

Man you haven't played pear/banana?
Nah, man, but I did play the special "Cranapple" edition that came out just after them.

Both the anime and the games were fine up until Crystal then it started to die for me.
This is mostly because I played Ruby/Sapphire and I wasn't going to buy a DS.

They have all been great games so far, and I continue to enjoy them.

What the heck did I just read? I believe a facepalm would be quite appropriate here...
Did the person who wrote that even attempt to understand it? Their explanation took bits and pieces from the TCG, video games, and anime without making any distinction between them. I had to laugh at the description of pokemon abilities. Since when can electric pokemon use antigravity (except maybe Magnemite, but that's a magnetism thing, not antigravity)? And can anyone show me a poison move that breaks bones? Or any move, for that matter? I can't think of one, even considering the other three generations that have come after that was written.

Just fucking end it. The pokemon design is stupid as well as the names. The first 150 I could say "yeah, I can see that existing". The next 100 I said "ok, still not bad. Not as good as the first but I can suspend my disbelief a little". At this point they are point at objects around the office, giving it a tail, and saying a random string of syllables until it sounds like a name.

R/B/Y was good.
S/G/C was better.
R/S/E wasn't as good as 2nd gen, but it was still fun.
D/P/Pt sucked. Worst gen of all time.

Like it, but worried about where the series is going to go after Black/White.

Despite what people seem to blab, Pokemon design is just as good (and bad) as its always been. The originals arent sacred, or good. For every Charizard there is a Jynx, Mr. Mime, Lickitung, and Hitmonchan. Same for every generation.

And despite what people say, each new generation brings new and updated mechanics, which makes the battles new and exciting. Stealth Rock is the only complaint I have for the current generation.

Either way, I like them. I think the series has to expand to MMO soon, as its getting too big.
