Surely that's an advantage, you can take them out one model at a time with a smile that says 'this is mine, this is mine as well, this isn't yours, hands off, how much does this army kick your arse'... then really wipe the floor with them.

Anyway, Necrons (tabletop-wise) aren't that good any more. Get your game in before their codex gets a rewrite. Their army roster isn't well suited to the modern battle scenarios, so it'll be a good opponent to ease yourself back into the hobby.

OT (OT, here?!): Someone tell me the appeal of Orks in DoW1 as I found them so unwieldy. Oh, and did anyone actually enjoy playing as Dark Eldar, because I thought they were so weak all round.
Haha, yes that feeling of satisfaction of being way more awesome than them would be good haha. though i'd need a battering stick, to stop the grubby little 12 year olds from touching my beloved models! Though, with a combined total of around 200 models...it will take a while lol

The appeal is their quotes. You tell them to do something and they say "WOT?! I wasn't listenin'" and they have such gems as:
"Puny Eldar, you can send 'alf da boyz 'ome!"
"Hold on to da pin, throw da uvver part." ~Tankbustas on grenades
"Ahahahaha! Don't hold on to dat end of it!" ~Tankbustas on grenades
"I fixed a few thingz whilst we was gettin' here... Probably didn't break nuthin' important though." *snort* ~Mek leaving a veichle

They're more about fun than actually winning anything.

I got DA for the black armour, Ravenwing and robes! Oh, that and (what was) the best vehicle in the game: Sammael's land speeder (armour 14, moves 24", tl-assault cannon, you're so dead!)

Back in 3rd/4th Ed, you could take an army with nothing but bikes and terminators, none of that crappy plodding 'oh I can only move 6" now' crap. This was a typical first turn:

Scout move: charge! 24"
First move proper: charge! another 24"

Calls 2 Terminators squads, 10 Terminators appear behind their deployment but just out of charge range.

Fire! TL-bolters and Typhoon missile launchers galore.

Turn 2: Lightning clawed up Terminators charge, game over!

Oh, the memories!

Well my favourite 40k race is Space Marines, but more specifically Space Wolves.

I'm fascinated by historical Vikings and Norse mythology so it's not a big stretch to be loving the idea of Vikings. In. Space.

I love that the leader of my army rides a giant, cybernetically enhanced, I'mma-eat-your-face wolf into battle. I prefer their army structure (Blood Claws, Grey Hunters, Long Fangs, Wolf Scouts, Wolf Guard, etc) over the standard codex Space Marine structure.

And lore wise, I love that they're so devoted to serving the Emperor that they'll scarcely hesitate to stomp all over anyone, even other Imperial units and organisations, that interfere with them carrying out the Will of Russ and the Emperor.

Besides Space Wolves, I really like the Inquisition. The idea of these superbly trained, incredibly motivated, dedicated and focused people with their hodge podge retinues skimmed from the best of the best is pretty cool. I love the potential for individuality and customisation. Plus, you know, they kick ass and manipulate names.

Also Orkz. Orkz are fun. Orkz make me smile (unless they're rolling better than my Wolves). The 40k comic Deff Skwadron still makes me laugh and I've read it probably a dozen times.

because screaming CHAAAAAAAAAAARGE is not a battle plan, even if you are a thousand year old supermutant. or green.
same goes for HOLD THE LINE and let yourself get shot, not a battleplan.
plus the tau are kinda of the idealistic voice of reason(collectivist yes, but still better than the religious fanatics that almost everyone else is).
and tabletop-wise a always disliked melee because i always felt it was way harder to control than a nice ranged barrage of superheated plasma

When I used to be into the whole Warhammer craze, I collected the tyranids.
They just looked cool, in my opinion.

Imperial Guard here.

I always loved the the rugged look of those warmachines. Giant threads, huge cannons, black smoke coming from the exhausts and the noise should be deafening!
The same reason I like the soviet era machines. :D
I'm also a big fan of Dan Abnett and there the Imps are always portrayed as heroes.

I will start painting the tabletop guards as soon as I move to a new (bigger) place.
Note: The local gameshop is a heretic. The only foot soldiers he has for sale are Genestealers, Eldar, Ork and Tau! Suffer not the alien to live!

I would love to see an Imperial Guard mod for Supreme Commander though, it would be awesome too see 200 Marauders bombing a field filled with Orks!

The Tau seem relatively popular here. Mayhaps you are unaware of their true nature.
There is no such thing as an honest alien breed, but the Tau are more dishonorable than any other. Most aliens cowed by the Imperial Guard are obvious and predictable in their methods and we have learned to take advantage of their weaknesses: Orks are stupid, brittle boned and feeble; Eldar are cowardly, cynical and sport archaic and ineffective weaponry, Tyranids are mindless, half blind and confused by sudden movements. The Tau are an altogether more insidious foe. Their preferred invasion method is not honest warfare. They send diplomats and negotiators to vulnerable planets to drip honey drenched words into the willing ears of their victims. Millions have rejected the Imperial Creed in response to this underhanded behaviour.
It is probable that you will be subjected to tau propaganda (the method of controlling the populace by lying and distorting the truth; something the imperium would never stoop to). Remember: the tau lie and have no words for 'honour' and 'truth'.
Particulars on the enemy's degenerate weaknesses
The tau have evolved quickly, leading to huge deficits and weaknesses in their physiology. Use these facts to your advantage and you will prevail:
Tau have hollow bones. Their limbs will break easily under little applied pressure.
Tau have poor eyesight. Anything over ten meters away is a blur
Tau are frightened by fire
Tau are frightened by water
Tau are frightened by thunder
Xenos experts have discovered that the tau are descended from bovine herbivores. They are not predators and fighting is unnatural to them.
Tau have udders, short tails above the base of the spine, and they excrete an enormous amount of methane, especially when stressed
Tau are herd creatures that panic easily. Their usual response to stressful situations is to either wail and lie face down on he grass with their hands on their heads, or run around in circles hoping to confuse their aggressor
In battle, the tau are disorganised and cowardly. They fight from distance and their poor aim makes this tactic ineffective
To compensate for their poor eyesight, they have developed acute hearing. Their eardrums are so sensitive that if you make a loud enough noise (for example, by shouting the litany of death) it causes deafness and immediate confusion
The forces of the Imperial Guard are the Emperors favoured sons and his prime instrument in spreading the glory of the Imperium to the far corners of the galaxy

With a collection that large: APOCALYPSE! Awesome extra special rules and formations.

Dark vs. Blood! Care for an 'I'm more loyal to the Emperor than you' bust up?!

I'll be getting a few Grey Knights as well so they can be the refs!

I never really got into the table top game, but I really like playing as Chaos in DoW2, probably because they seem to be of the dying breed of insane and evil factions in RTS. I don't want to get to know my enemies, I want to rip them to shreds and use their blood to appease demented gods! :D

So that we may cleanse them more thoroughly, I take it.

In DoW1, though they were damned good if you could survive the early game skirmishing. Once mid-game comes along: 2x3 XV88's and Fire Warriors squads that can shoot off-screen. HQ character's shit though, and I never bothered with the Kroot (who suck regardless of medium).

With the actual board game, my favorite race is the Eldar. I love their specialized strike squads and warlocks.

For DoW2 I prefer the Space Marines. They have such good balance and are fairly easy to play with so every situation is manageable.

Tabletop I prefer vanilla space marines, though I refuse to paint them as Ultrasmurfs. They're versatile, tough, and can take the abuse of me making stupid mistakes at times.

In DoW I want to like the nids, but as has already been said, they don't translate well in this game, so I'll go with either SM or IG. Gotta love men willing to play meatshield to the much more valuable armor and the officers willing to shoot the those who won't.

I just play the Tabletop, I used to have CSM and Daemons and White Scars. Now I primarily play orks. They fit my dice better!
