Join us... or we will crush you, sterilize your population, brainwash the survivors and put you to work as mindless servants of the greater good. Well, considering the alternatives this actually isn't a bad deal for you human scum.

Elder, an agile army army must be almost impossible to kill, and they are... Elder will always win and/or complete their task with minimal casualties, thats the type of army i would like to be in.

If I remember, the first edition rules made them pretty beefy! But, as you said The back story is awesome. Main reason I picked them.
Oh, I'm inclined to agree, I played DA up to 4th Ed, but when 5th Ed came out, they bombed spectacularly. I want my 48" first turn move back!

I've always had a thing for the Dark Angels. I love their back story and the dark green armour really appeals to me.

Also, What is the story behind the Tau? I never looked up the Codex but someone said they were made in the lab by the Eldar and others have said they appeared from the warp. I'm confused? :(
The Tau are a native species of T'au, their homeworld on the eastern edge of the galaxy. The only interesting thing about their early development is that the Tau race as a whole evolved very rapidly into 4 distinct sub-species to better survive in the area of the planet they inhabited.

These subspecies eventually fought a massive war for dominance of T'au when they were technologically around the time of the Renaissance. The Ethereal Tau, a "Fifth" subspecies, then appeared and brokered a peace between the factions, and unified them under a single banner. The factions would become the four principle castes of the Tau: Fire (soldiers), Earth (manufacturers, laborers and scientists), Air (Messengers, Space captains and pilots), and Water (Diplomats). The Ethereal fifth caste were to be the leaders. The rest is history.

Haha I haven't played in a while, since the 3rd edition i think. I miss crushing my opponent in the first few turns...

I still have a 10,000 point DA army in the attic. I spent a fair amount on them back in the day!

Hmmm...I think you may have inspired me to find them and see whether anyone will battle with the old rules! haha

Yeah they dont say that in DoW games.... They do however say "Who's dat talkin?!" when you select them ;)
and "WOT?! I wasn't listening"

As for my pick? I love Chaos and I love Orks.

"Orkses iz neva defeated in battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"

"I murdered thousands for the Emperor and he gave me nothing except his damning silence. Now his lapdogs yap for every life I take, while the gods promise me the galaxy."

No chance, there, mate! But still, pick up the new Space Marines codex and use the DA, it'll work (almost) just as well as you were used to. Do a little research, though, things have changed a lot, my friend!

Having said that, if your models are 1st/2nd Ed, then everyone will fawn over you for retro-ness. Good luck!

Why isn't the Inquisition in the poll???

HERESY!!!!!!!!!!

But I would go Imperial Guard anyway, out of all the races they have the best lines, especially in the Dawn of War games.

"LET IT RAIN....FIRE!"
"For every one of us who falls, ten more will take his place."
"If you will not serve in combat then you will serve on the firing line."
"This is what I call a target rich environment"
"Ready to unleash eleven...barrels...of hell!"

Space Marines, I love the Dark Angels. They are just awesome!
Tabletop: they suck! Ravenwing is so overpriced, Deathwing stormshields are worse than everyone else's, and Tac squads are, on average, 15pts more expensive than the vanilla equivalent. The only thing they have going for them is Sammael's personal LandSpeeder. Nah, normal marines get the same job done only with more models and more punch.
Didn't hear about the FAQ rulings? 4th Edn MEQ codexes got 5th edn Stormshields.

Deathwing just switched from being bottom to pretty high tier in competition.

Dow 1:
Tau, definetly.
hey, dinosaurs and lasers are Awesome in my book.

tabletop: TAU!!!!!! and Eldar are good too.
oh, yeah, and Imperial Guard are good. you just have to have guts to go into battle only using disco lights and cardboard armor while your artillery has you for the range marker.

Dow 2:
no tau. but Eldar and Imperial are OK

there's just something awesome about Tau in the tabletop game. the option to shoot down most enemies before they get near enough to cry out their battlecries, for example.

DINOSAURS AND LASERS FTW!

Oh yes, 80% of my army are the original models! The others are either conversions for Necromunda or some of the newer models. Though the last time I bought a new set of models was 1999! haha

Imperial Guard ....

When an enemy refuses to go down it's because you're not throwing enough soldiers and tanks at it. Plus there is something enchanting about playing Imperial Guard ... they're humans, with a shitty weapon, shitty armour, and a few months of training ... and they're the first and last bulwark for Humanity against the innumerable threats arrayed against it.
