If you go back in time and kill your father, you will not end existence, because that event would have lead to your timeline anyway.

However there is a theory that you could kill your father because every choice you make splits off into 2+ other universes (depending on how many options there were) and so if you did you could, in theory, keep living because in some other universe your father is still alive.

EDIT: this is all assuming time travel is even possible.

Assuming I wouldn't care about my life - I would travel back to before WW2 and tell Poland to join hitler camp as they will be abbandoned by all their allies and sold to Stalin after the war. That way maybe natzis coupled with communist wouldn't kill all the intelligence in this country.
Taking our chances with hitler would be an interesting thing to see, I mean how it would play out considering that Poland would fight Russia and Germany would have one front less to cover.

I stop Halo from coming out. That way, Microsoft leaves the console business due to how unsuccessful the Xbox was, so the idea of down-loadable content is never concieved and Single player gaming stays as important as it used to be. Games aren't as main-stream, therefore we aren't seen as mass killers by the media and the game industry as a whole will have a less corporate and more creative air to it.

Then I would put half of the enormous sum into a very diverse stock portfolio, half of the dividends would buy new stocks (to keep its value through inflation) and half would go to charity, giving them a steady constant supply of cash that would outlive me.

I would stop my Mom from going hunting two weeks ago. My dog died 4 days later because of some incredibly infectious porcupine quills. The worst part is, i could have stopped it. I would take with me a shitload of high-tech stuff an travel to just after the dark ages. That way:
(1)Mankinds techlevel would develop faster and earlier
(2)With the power I wield, wich would seem like magic to the peaople of that time I would appoint myself ruler.
(3)The stories of the tech-bringing awesome dude would live on and I could prove it was me in my own time, wich now has a much higher level of technological advancment and be Emperor and lead mankind to the stars.

I wouldn't change anything, why? Because I do not know how it will alter the course of time. If I went back and killed Hitler, how do I know we will still enjoy the standard of living, and the technology we have now?

Or we get a Red Alert situation, and we wouldn't want that, now would we?

That said, I might rig the 2000 elections so that Bush doesn't win, but that's about it.
