Guns.

I'd love to see those wizards lord their reality warping powers over me when they have a few new structurally superfluous holes in their head.

Also, as long as this isn't final fantasy or some shit where you can somehow block bullets with a sword, I don't see any melee fighters standing a chance unless they catch me by surprise.

Definitely magic, because with the right brain and a fairly flexible spellbook, there's no situation you can't survive.

Spell 1: Protective barrier that's impervious to anything but magic.
Spell 2: A magic projectile attack, thus allowing me to attack without ever becoming vulnerable due to the previous spell.
Spell 3: Teleportation, just in case something still gets fucked up. Can't kill what you can't catch, and nobody can outrun a spellcaster who knows where he or she is going.

Sword for me. Some sort of lighter variety, a rapier or such maybe, to limit it's effect on my stamina and generally be faster.

Probably guns- wait- limited ammo?!?

Never mind, magic- wait - (assuming that i'm not a god and can kill everyone in one shot, like a lot of these Napoleon complexed people wish they could do) I can only cast three AoE spells at before recharging and at that point I'm sitting on my ass?

I guess I'll go with my trusty spear with backup daggers and a throwing knife harness. Cover is essential for my survival. Hopefully I can also carry a bulletproof shield so that I can at least have cover if none is available.

It depends:

If you get to choose your locations, then sniper rifle.

If you can choose your sword style, then Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu.

If magic items can also be worn, then:

1. Ring of Sequestering
2. Armor of the Celestial Battalion
3. Divine Blast

Obviously magic would be preferable if we're talking omnipotance, but if there were rules and logic to the magic I'd probably just take a gun. If it was Harry Potter rules then I would definitely take a gun instead. At best a HP wand is just a crappy non-automatic handgun that takes however long it takes to say "Avaeda Kadavra" between shots. You even have to aim it, just like a gun, and if you miss, the dude doesn't die. It's quite obvious why Voldemort chose to terrorize muggles in a candy ass gun-control intensive country like England. If he tried any of that bullshit in Texas or New Hampshire he'd have what's left of his face blown clean off before he got out the Kadavra.

Assuming we're not in the Final Fantasy universe (where swords are more effective then guns); Guns.
Ask any ER doctor and they'll tell you bladed weapons do more damage than guns most of the time.
Not if I shoot you before you are in melee range ;)

I think that "don't bring a knife to a gun fight" says enough.
