Reviews generally look at both positive and negative aspects.
Look who's back!

*Cue intro to Without Me*

Anyways, does a picky child look at the positive aspects of eating broccoli? No. So, Yahtzee is just a picky reviewer. He does play up the bad stuff, but he still makes solid points and does sometimes, like, once in a red moon, notice the good stuff.

So, comedic review. There. Drinks all around.

Definitely, definitely both!

Dunno how people can try and put this in a box.

When I click on one of Yahtzee's reviews it's because I want a bit of comedy, but I also genuinely want to know what he thinks of a game. Why? Because he's usually pretty frickin' accurate. He even picks up on the same kind of petty things I'd pick up on. (Like the fact that your teammates in CoD4 are happy to fight endless respawns all night unless you push forward).

I guess pessimism is something us Brits share (yes, I know he lives in Austrailia).

You mean his critiques?
I watch them solely for entertainment.
Sure, he may have valid points every now and then, but he is really making his videos to rant about the negative parts of games.

How about both?
While I originally started watching for the comedy value, I'm now also interested in what he's got to say, because I feel Mr. Croshaw and I have similar tastes in games. I don't agree with him about absolutely everything of course (mainly his constant damning of Halo as the root of all evil) but I still value his oppinion as a critic, as well as his talent as a comedic writer.

It's clearly comedy and it bothers the hell out of me when people take him too seriously and praise him as a god of reviewers.

Even tho he has made SOME leginimate points, other points are completely inaccurate and sound like he has barely even played the game or simply sucked at it.

Well it was originally a review series, what i enjoyed most about it - but somehow along the way he has begun to exagerate for comic effect = Not good
Really? "along the way"...I suggest you go and re-watch his earlier episodes, if anything his "reviews" are more so now than then. Although it's clearly comedy.
I'm talking early early. Mainly the 2 before he hit The Escapist and maybe a few while here. His opinion is very biased presently.
Did you ever play Fable : TLC? His review, whilst hilarious, was extremely one-sided and over exaggerated every bad point.

Well, I watch it for entertainment mainly, but I do listen to what he says. If he likes a game I'll take note and I'll be more likely to get the game, and the opposite as well.

I don't really take anything he says too seriously, 'cause I'm a big Brawl fan, and I still think his Brawl review is one of his best. Especially the (continuation that is the) Mailbag Showdown.

Brings design flaws to everyone's attention in a hilarious manner. It's comedy, with a hint of review to keep it rolling.
His more current episodes seem somewhat stale, because he plays up the 'this game sucks' aspect far too much, without saying anything really noteworthy.

I would say none of these, for me. I began watching, if I remember correctly, because yahtzee did a review on one of the games I was interested in. After that, I watched 70% for the comedy and 30% for the review. But it became more than either. Now I watch every episode because I obtain from them a sense of the progression of the gaming world, along with comedy and reviews :p.

He does not review games in any way. He just critises them for comedic effect. If it was a review he would take both good and bad aspects of a game into account which he doesn't just bad.

could it be that what sets YC apart is his ability to disect games and present them in a watchable format? I'll admit I came to the Escapist because of ZP, but I'm no fan boy. I like his reviews because he looks at and talks about games differently than anyone I've seen. I can decide if I like a game by watching gameplay and trailers, but I can't look over to him and ask "whaddya figure?" so until he's in my living room pointing things out and making witty comments, yellow powerpoints will suffice for his opinion

It's both. People are just too used to the "suck up" attitude of your average reviewer.

The majority of the time his reviews are mainly comedy. Most of the time he takes the negative aspects of games, while blowing them up for comedy, and ignores the good things the games have to offer. It's good for entertainment, but people take what he has to say too seriously. It gets annoying when he gives a somewhat negative review of a good game(Guerrilla Warfare and Overlord II for example) and there are a legion of people in the comments who always have to say something along the lines of "Well now I don't even have to play it, it suck! LOL!"

I enjoy his show, and he does make some good points at times. I just don't like it when people can't form an opinion for themselves, and can't even try the game to decide if it really is good or not.

I would have to say both. It's more of comedy than a review, but there are review aspects that cannot be ignored.

They are extremely harsh comedic reviews. Every time he hates a game, take it with a grain of salt. But every time he likes a game, you know to look into it.
