Then that begs the question, is it only Celestia and Luna who exist or do both Celestia and Luna and the God exist? Are they the literal combinations of the Gods, are Celestia and Luna merely the God's representations to the Ponies, are the Gods actually just the literal split up parts of Celestia and Luna as representatives to the Humans, or are the Gods and Celestia and Luna competition for each other?
So many variables.
the God? What are you talking about?

Celesia is a combination of Zeus, Apollo, and Helios, with some Athena thrown in for good measure.

Luna is Artemis, with a dash of Hades.

I suppose the Dragons may have their own gods...
I mean god as in all of the gods of the Greek pantheon since I'm too lazy to list them all individually and I'm too stupid to remember to properly pluralize. -_-'

Can't forget about the griffins either. Man, I had not thought about any of this...

Well, Celestia and Luna clearly are no mere mortals. But their titles of princess do indicate a power even greater then theirs... Maybe they're demigods? Born of the God pony and a mortal one?

Or born of God who isn't pony and Mortal who is a Pony. (Zeus I'm looking at you)

Hate to rain on the "Higher power than Celestia and Luna" parade, but didn't Mrs. Faust joss that?
I'd retrieve a link, but I'm lazy.

Failing that, one of the other world the Dark Tower supports. Shit bleeds through all the time, yo.
I like your answer best. Coheed and Cambria and Stephen King references. Fo sho.

Um...not sure. Wouldn't have been bothered if it was created or not. Glad it is in retaliation to that insufferable person.

Griffons are Greek too. As are Pegasus, but then, it's My Little Pony so that really isn't evidence of ancient Greece.

On deities, recall, Greek Gods were more "human" than the modern vision of deities. They ate, drank, had sex, and got jealous of mortals. So the Greek gods weren't that far above the power level of humans.

You're just mad because she can bend any physics in the name of funny. Teleport INTO a mirror's reflection? No problem!
Pinkie Pie is the embodiment of the word "illogical," which is precisely what makes her SO AWESOME! Also, she holds the title of Master of Out Of Fucking Nowhere. She probably trains ninjas and Spetsnaz to be sneaky.

Oh, when I read your previous post I sort of pictured an English police officer with an old grey and thick mustache walking by and saying that and if it wasn't a reply to that thread you would've locked me up in internetz prison or something.

Actually Equestria is in South Africa. I would post the picture, but it shows tribals with guns.
You can be in South Africa and posses something that or know of something that is from France or French culture.
And there can be two completely different places that have the same name. e.g. There are multiple Kingstons, such as the one in Jamaica or the one in Canada, doesn't mean they're the same place.

It can't be on earth. Have you not seen the physics problems people have come up with? It must be somewhere in another galaxy or something.

Though clearly a form of higher authority exists above Princess Celestia and Luna.
They're only called Princess because Queen sounds a wee bit too wicked and aloof and Princess sounds all cuddly and cute.
So naturally Celestia is a tyrant.

I've heard an elaborate theory about how sentient ponies survived the destruction of humanity and rebuilt the world as their own.

I don't remember it in full detail, but it's what I'm sticking with, and it is awesome.

It takes place in an alternate, parallel universe that has similarities to Earth as we currently know it.

Think about it. We know it has to be another planet or universe entirely because Celestia and Luna raise the sun and the moon. If the existence of magic in the first place wasn't enough, that clearly means that Equestria does not follow the rules of Earth as we know it.

However, we have Fluttershy's reference to French clothing to consider. That means it has to have some sort of connection to Earth, right?

Not necessarily. Keep in mind that the show has many other "ponified" references as well. Manehattan, Phillydelphia, Canterlot... all these are related to and/or inspired by Earth names. But there can't be any direct connection because, as has been mentioned, the rules of science are very intensely inapplicable.

So it must be an alternate universe. One with similarities to ours, but many differences as well. It's the only workable explanation.

Of course this would be easier if we had more information as to where Celestia and Luna came from; they could be the eternal gods of that universe, or the daughters of one eternal god, the last members of an ancient master race, who knows. Since we are given no information, it must be assumed for now that Celestia and Luna are the two gods that, as far as we know, have always existed along with Equestria and have been given the relationship of "sisters" based on their equal share in maintaining balance in Equestria.

Now that I think about it though, the one thing that could throw a kink in this plan is the existence of griffons. They seem no less intelligent than ponies, meaning it's fully possible that Equestra is a nation among other nations of various creatures. Not sure exactly where the distinction between intelligent being and creature is in this universe, I suppose, considering many animals are considered animals and creatures to the ponies, which are also animals and creatures in our world. Hmm.

EDIT: Unless they're SPACE GRIFFONS!!!

The buffalo and the dragons are pretty damned sapient also.

Magic is merely energy transfer that has yet to be fully investigated by science. Whatever apocalyptic event that destroyed human civilization clearly left large amounts of extra energy around, and the unicorn ponies adapted to make use of it. This event may have also thrown the Earth off it's orbit and/or rotation, necessitating magical intervention. Perhaps Luna and Celestia were near the center of this event and received an extra dose of whatever it was.

True, I'd forgotten about them. Though dragons, however sapient, rarely have their own nation in fantasy worlds. Though the fact that this one seems to be made entirely of sapient animals could mix that up a bit. It's unclear what role dragons play in this world, actually...

Also, for the record, I admire your comments in that insipid thread with the guy telling us what we do and don't like. I wish I had seen it before it was locked so I could have joined in. :p
