I just watched the first episode of this show on YouTube about an hour ago. I...

...am now a brony. My ancestors have now disowned me in shame.

OT: Hollow Earth, man. Equestria is on the INSIDE.
You don't need your ancestors anyway; you have us now.

You mean there are adorable ponies beneath our feet right now?! Why are we not digging yet!?

Ok, I have to address something that is bugging me. As much as I like MLP:FiM, why do people have to make those stupid pony puns!?! You don't have to say "everypony", just say "everyone". I die a little inside everytime a see a bad pun D:
It's all in good fun. And some ponies like bad puns.

I would like to point out that in regards to the whole princess thing
it was stated that Celestia is labeled as a princess because kids prefure princesses to queens thanks to that the fairy tale Disney stuff they get exposed to making them think queens are evil

so although she is called princess she is technically a queen

Hey, I tried to dig all the way through the planet when I was a kid. I hit the water table and I had a LOT of explaining to do when my parents got home, since there was a giant hole in the backyard that our car could have gotten lost in.

Yeah, yeah, I know. Cool story, bro...ny. Ahahahahaha.

Even more technically, she's a goddess. She can call herself anything she wants; she'd still be in charge.

My theory: My little pony takes place on a different planet. The ponies speak a different language, have different nationalities, and different world histories. It is simply for the sake of the viewers, that the show has been translated, the references realigned with our pop-culture, and the historical references adjusted for our history.

A dialogue sample from the original show:
"G҉re͘e͠f̛ ̵k̨ag͟h͠ic m̧a̡jc ̛yu̴oe͠r,t͜yḩth̕r̵ ̡g̵us͘ wyx̡kc҉kvu͏i ͞iów͘n̕t̀lyj҉."

Translated:
"...and I said,'Oatmeal? are you crazy?'"

And then everything made sense.

I've heard an elaborate theory about how sentient ponies survived the destruction of humanity and rebuilt the world as their own.

I don't remember it in full detail, but it's what I'm sticking with, and it is awesome.
I became familiar with that story through the fanfic "Pony Symphony". Pretty good read if you think you'd enjoy a Cowboy Bebop/MLP crossover. I'm liking the South Africa theory, it does explain the negative reactions towards Zecora. I bet Equestria is her ancestrial home.

Also, my first thought upon viewing this thread, "One does not simply walk into Equestria."

Can't forget about the griffins either. Man, I had not thought about any of this...

Well, Celestia and Luna clearly are no mere mortals. But their titles of princess do indicate a power even greater then theirs... Maybe they're demigods? Born of the God pony and a mortal one?
Or born of God who isn't pony and Mortal who is a Pony. (Zeus I'm looking at you)
Feasible, but you do have to remember that all of Zeus' kids were human, regardless of how they were born/conceived. If you're following that logic, then the God would have to be some kind of Pony for Celestia and Luna to be born ponies, albeit super ponies.

Griffons are Greek too. As are Pegasus, but then, it's My Little Pony so that really isn't evidence of ancient Greece.

On deities, recall, Greek Gods were more "human" than the modern vision of deities. They ate, drank, had sex, and got jealous of mortals. So the Greek gods weren't that far above the power level of humans.
Well, yes they are. Gods are immortal, can control the elements, change the destinies of humans, etc. But, their morals are clearly no better than humans, I'd even say worst than most. Then again, the Greeks were never really big on moral standing, were they?

Awww, but that's not as fun.
Nothing is fun once it's been explained.
I hate to brag, but I think that this is a very effective, and universal theory for shows that blur the lines of reality and fiction (e.g. pony powered seasons and French couture)

If you see a hole in this theory let me know. I'd love to find a universal explination theory.

My theory is that the land of Equestria is a little girl's rather large playset. This explains why the seasons need changing and the animals need to be taken care of (the little girl is moving the toy sun, moon, snow, and animals around, and pretending that the ponies are doing it). The Everfree Forest is the nearby garden where she sometimes plays, but her brother (who has dragon and monster toys) plays in the garden and bothers her toys with his toys when she goes there.

I was actually going to say that, but I figured since she's not working on the show anymore it might not work still...Get Out Of My Head!

Ignoring your first question and skipping right to the second. You do realize that its a kids show right? Even if genitals were easily visible on a pony (they aren't because its a horse and if you have ever been near a female horse you wouldn't see much either) why would the animators put them there?

She's still working on the show. She's just down to Consulting Producer from Executive Producer I believe.

Now, everypony I have a question to pose that is of great significance and weight:
Where exactly does Equestria take place in? Is it in a Universe never before used in fiction? Does it take place in a post-apocalyptic Earth? Does it take place on a far away alien planet? Is it in Azeroth? An after-life for horses who have been turned into glue? The dreams of every little girl?
WHERE?!?!
My Bronies, we must find out where it is. If we do, perhaps through years of perfecting our technology and gathering resources we could one day hope that our grand children could maybe one day, one day make it to Equestria to serve our Princess Celestia and live in pony paradise for generations!

Also, unrelated note: If the Ponies are almost constantly nude, and yet we never see any genitalia, how in Celestia's beard do they reproduce? Magic? Do they divide like Bacteria?

TLDR: Where exactly is Equestria?

If I may.....

I believe that Equestria is located in a dimension just slightly off from our own. There DOES infact, exist a link between these worlds. Their's is in the Everfree Forest, where the laws of nature tend to more closely follow ours. The 'link' in our world has yet to be discovered, however.

why not take a page out of the DC book and call it an alternate earth where instead of humans become the dominant species a race of magic weilding walking talking flying and civilized ponies controlled the world.
