I have played half-life and L4D HUNDREDS of times (literally) and I can't see the similarities. Obvious troll is obvious. BUt for me, I can't stand Modern Warfare 2, it's shaite. I don't see why there's so much hate on Halo though, I mean yeah, it's overrated. But people in this thread still haven't proved a good reason to not like the original trilogy.
Oh please, because you don't notice the similarities there aren't any? If you've played both hundreds of times, you're clearly a fan, perhaps they share characteristics you, unlike me, appreciate. God forbid you have a bias that stops you from seeing similarities between the games.

I'll save you the trouble of an in depth analysis, they are similar in the gunplay mechanics, the feel and relative damage of the guns are very similar (slightly different, but very similar). Neither games allow zooming on or looking down the site except on specific weapons. Both focus on a run and gun style of gameplay (as oppose to a nest, shoot, advance , stealth kill or sneak past certain enemies, etc type gameplay).

I do however agree with MW2 being an all round crap game (as detailed in my earlier post) and also don't understand why halo is such a scapegoat. It isn't perfect, it is perhaps overrated but there are far less deserving, more popular games that are therefore far cooler to bash.

I trust my own judgement enough that I don't buy games I think I'll dislike. As such I can only dislike games from which I've seen gameplay footage, so let's just say Kingdom Hearts (all/both of them), final fantasy and pretty much the entirety of the JRPG genre. Nothing "racist" about it, but more often than not I can tell when the tripe storyline and generic (and bad) controls will bother me. So I just don't play them. Maybe I'm missing out. I don't really care.

Halo.
It's so bland and simple. It's like playing an outdated PC shooter like Serious Sam or Duke Nukem 3D but without the Humor, fun or originality.
They have a giant intergalactic conflict and they managed to make it bland and uninteresting. I think they deserve points for that.
The gameplay is bad, too. The guns feel like pea shooters and killing the covenant is as satisfying as watching paint dry.
Plus the guns' "pew pew pew" sound effects and bright colors make it look like some sort of childish fantasy that tries to be taken seriously.
I find the hatred towards Halo baffling, to be honest. I am certainly not a halo fanboy, but it is almost undoubtedly the most criticised game on the internets, for no discernible reason, perhaps bar MW2.

The graphics are good, it was an innovative game will innovative ideas. The plot was great in the first one, though they murderised it to oblivion in 2 and 3, as it simply was overly complex and redundant, and frankly...a bit boring. Halo:CE did have a fantastic story though, presented, and in extended universe form.
The multiplayer was fun, and got progressively better from CE to 3, with 3 being one of the most balanced multiplayer games around in my opinion, even if I don't play it. It's something MW2 and many FPS's can't claim, a good balance, where as Halo3 can. It's well designed, good interface, great soundtrack and sound effects, immersive, and it was the game that revolutionised multiplayer, in terms of a flawless matchmaking system.

Even if I am not the biggest fan of the Halo series, I can't deny the impact it had on the gaming world, and also how well made and presented the game is. Even if they forgot the "fun" factor in the single player and it all got a bit ridiculous, the series as a whole stands out as clearly a "good" series, surely under almost any criterion you can push upon it.

This is the first time I have ever defended the Halo franchise, so don't mistake me for a halo fanboy at all; I just have never seen a criticism of the game that justifies the utter bile, spite and hatred that I see everywhere towards it. I can only surmise it is a "fad" thing; Halo was popular at first, then people realised this and rebelled against it. Same system with MW, first was popular, then it went to far and made a sequel, and people hate it (though there are a lot of reasonable gripes with that game, so it's perhaps not a perfect analogy!)
You realise that this is a thread about peoples likes and dislikes, not what is good or bad. some one else not liking something does not indicate good or bad, merely that they don't like it.
Of course I do, I was simply trying to figure out where the hatred for Halo stems from; as several people in this thread have either said Halo sucks etc. or replied with "Halo doesn't work, because no one on the internet likes it anyway".

I have no problem with people not "getting" Halo, or whatever, I am infact, relating it to the thread, a person who doesn't "get" the hate for Halo, which is almost more popular than the game itself. I don't understand how the hate is so popular.

It's average.
There have been a lot of games with a lot of ideas that haven't been copied as much as Halo's mechanics.
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter has good tactical gameplay and well paced missions but you don't see other shooters imitiating it. But every shooter must now have regenerating health or a space marine to function.
It gets really tiresome.
So you are saying Halo is a bad game, because it is copied in other games? That seems an unfair criticism. If, say, a film universally regarded as good, like Shawshank Redemption for instance, was copied to one degree or another in other films, you wouldn't blame Shawshank Redemption for it; more the mimic.
This just goes to prove my point, you know? The only criticisms of it, don't really make any sense.
I gave some other reasons in the other post you quoted and the second quote was taken out of context. Someone said Halo was good because a lot of games copied it.

If everyone starts copying Blinx the time master does it make it a good game?

Nah, I'm not one of those people, I mean, of course there will be similarities between the games since it's by the same company and I frankly HATE iron sights in games like practically every other game out there that isn't by Valve or Bungie (Halo guys) I DO see your points though and it's most likely just your personal taste so I guess we're not going to contradict each other.

Halo and Final Fantasy. Halo is just another FPS that is set in space with weapons that shoot plasma. Also I thought it was supposed to end after 3 but the came out with 3 more games with one of them being add on content that was sold in stores. Final Fantasy is just another RPG that should just end soon. The game is called FINAL Fantasy and how many have there been?
