Who cares if it was released on day one or day one-thousand? It doesn't matter when it was released, it matters that the game is complete without it. It's not like they're withholding the last third of the game until you shell out another $20 or whatever, it's a very small add-on that's going to compose a few pixels on your co-op partner's screen. If you don't think that's worth paying for, don't pay for it.

It's being downvoted by a bunch of people I'm pretty sure don't actually have the game or intend on playing it.

Did you even READ the first post?
They aren't complaining about the game, or the content of the game, or the soundtracks, or the characters in it- they're complaining about DLC in the game, that doesn't affect the game in any way but cosmetic if you buy it, which you don't have to.

Yeah, great reason for a 0/10 guys!

If you had the time to make it, then it ought to be included on the sixty fucking dollar disc they just released. Of course it's going to piss people off when you need to pay more money for all the functionality that should have been released at the store.
Why?

It's their product, why can they look at it and say "You know what? This chunk of the game right here is worth 60 dollars. The rest, they have to pay more for."

It's a perfectly valid way to do it. Hell, it's really just an expansion pack broken into little pieces.

Yeah, great reason for a 0/10 guys!
"I played through the entire SP, COOP, finished all the achievements and loved it. Then I found there was a cash shop with optional co-op items. 0 / 10"

It's a really silly argument they make if they actually have played it. I'm sure most of the people downvoting it haven't or won't.

Its just fucking hats people. Seriously, are hats and costumes so god damn important to you that it makes the game inherently worse?

WAAAH! WE DON'T GET PURELY COSMETIC ITEMS FOR FREE! VALVE AND PORTAL 2 TOTALLY SUCK BECAUSE OF THIS! WAAAH!

Jesus, its one thing to be pissed about hefty content being released for a price at day one, but some fucking hats and skins? Come on.

I despise Day One DLC, but at least it's only cosmetic crap rather than "Give us money for the real ending".

The odd things is that I keep hearing complaints about the DLC, but no details on what exactly the DLC is.
Its basically just hats and costumes. Basically, stuff that does not impact the game in any way at all.

This is Valve fans were talking about. They're almost as bad as BioWare fans when it comes to entitlement issues.

Jesus, you people...

When you buy a game, you should get THE WHOLE THING. Not £30 worth, and have £28 worth missing, it should ALL be yours. You bought it.
You guys don't have a clue.

It's not DLC, yes it's downloadable, but it's barely content. It's just alternate colours, and silly hats for multiplayer.

Nothing that affects gameplay in any way at all.

It's not like for example Dragon Age 2, with a in-game shop, another character, many many items with actual stats, etc etc.

It's just cosmetic. This is not a story.

Typical self entitlement issues from the "fans" then.

You consider cosmetic items to be worth the same price as the entire game?

Portal 2 costs £32 in the UK, from the sounds of it there is DLC worth around the same price. I'd rather pay £32 and get just the game than pay £60 and get a load of crap I don't want added in.

I didn't buy Portal 2 for cosmetic fluff so why should it all be mine and why should I expect it for the $40?

Yes, and that's just the point some of us are trying to make. WE DID GET THE WHOLE THING. The whole complete Portal 2 experience. What Valve is selling are essentially add-on TF2 hats for Portal 2. It's bonus content - AN EXPANSION PACK. Granted, a rather small and purely cosmetic expansion pack, an expansion pack broken up into tiny little bits, but an expansion pack nonetheless.

I have been awaiting this: what will win out between two major mentalities the Escapist has:

The general gaming community hatred of a company for DLC that is not only completely optional, but stupid, and do not affect the game at all ("Lol, Horse Armor, Bethesda are stupid!" or "Haha, Capcom are ripping off gamers with costume packs")

or the undying devotion and zealousness of the Church of Freeman (EVERYTHING VALVE DOES IS AWESOME! TF2 Crates? What are you talking about? Valve can do no wrong!)
Score-5/10
Reason- Theres hats in it that you can buy only if you want to

How in the name of Lord Fuck does that make ANY god damn sense?
I'm not saying Portal 2 deserves that. I just said that these are two major mental states of gamers. I don't need to explain Valve fanboys, so I'll explain the other.

There is an unreasonable hatred of day 1 DLC, even if it's something as trivial as a few skins. Is it optional? Does it mess with the game? No? Guess what? They don't care. They hate you anyway. You had the GALL to make something completely optional that they never would have payed attention to anyway, but now you are charging money for it!

Like I said, I was just curious to see which mentality would be more powerful now that the Church of Freeman's messiah, Valve, now is using one of gaming's most despised ideas ever, Day 1 DLC. Will Love or Hate triumph? Then again, this is the internet...

No you didn't, you didn't get the £28 of what is likely already on the game disk. Stop crying about how you got a shitty deal.
