Wait for some reviews. The pre-order item is horrible anyway, so you might as well sit it out for a bit.

It's supposed to be twice as long as the original.
So $60 for 4 hours of (I'm hoping) genius? Even if it's brilliant that may be too short.
From what I've heard and seen it seems like it'll be much longer than that. Not to mention the co-op mode which will probably double the total play time. I'd say it's worth the money, but I'm getting it on PC, so it's a better buy regardless.
But if you get the PS3 version you can share the cost with a friend or something if they want the PC version, no (or vice versa)? I thought they came bundled? I may be wrong on this?

<--owns both PS3 and PC but probably can't run it on her PC dinosaur =S

What I can give as advice is:

1. If you have the intentions of completing the almost identical maps in multiplayer over and over again (like for instance L4D/2) you will like the multiplayer, because it wont be anything different. It will be fun the few first times, but after that when you continue seeing the same things over and over you'll probably stop playing it and then you are left with...
2. A story. Which probobly won't be good. Sure, it will be epic and funny like the first, but really how many times can you go pass the same story with 1 ending for 60 bux?

It's your call, I say go pirate on the game and play it, then if you like it buy it.

Mod Edit: Piracy

The problem with this is that you only get the Ps3 hard copy, and the digital copy of the PC one is automatically linked to what ever steam account activates the game on the PS3.

OT: well, it's £30 on steam over here in england... I'd get it if I had the money so I'd say yes.

It's this what we have come to?
Triple questioning ourselves a 45 dollar game made from valve?

One that by the look's of it and considering valve's track record we pretty much know it's going to be solid gold?

Shit's fuck'd up man...

If you're rich: Yes
If you're poor: Yes
Even if you're homeless you should have a pretty damn good go at trying to get it.

O.K in all seriousness, this game looks pretty damn good and heck if i were you I'd buy it even if it was just single-player with a little bit of extra length and new challenges, the game was brilliant before and even if it's short it'll be the best bit of short fun you'll have for quite awhile i expect.
Plus the co-op looks pretty damn good, and I wouldn't be surprised if they stuck on a few DLCs later on to add extra content etc.

Geeze I feel like such a fanboy reading back over that... dear god someone help me ._.

Nahh, I think it's pretty reasonable to harbour doubts after Left 4 Dead as a series offered slightly poor value-for-money, content-wise. But, as this thread shows, these doubts are easily exterminated... with extreme prejeduice.

Is a singleplayer game that lasts 8 hours and a co-op game that lasts the same amount, worth full-price? ...I don't know, but if Black Ops, Force Unleashed II and Kane & Lynch: Dog Days can get by with less than an eighth of that running length, then Portal 2 should be considered amazing value in comparison...

Well I would certainly buy it on launch at full price, but I won't be able to play it for another month or so anyway, so I'll wait till then, hoepfully it'll get its first price drop.

So what?
The first game was pretty damn short and that's why it was bundled with other games.

Now, if there was an 'Orange Box 2' with P2 with it...I'd consider it.

Singleplayer is 6 hours I believe, and co-op is 6. And the standard for completing Portal was 3-4 hours for most people.

Anyway, its like £25 on Steam - the system reqs aren't exactly going to be high.

You say you're not going to buy it specifically because of the length, he tells you its going to have 5 times as much playtime, you respond with "so what?" as if his point is out of nowhere.

Quality > quantity, and 12 hours for £25 is a pretty good deal anyway. Its length wasn't the only reason Portal was tucked inside the Orange Box anyway - it simply wasn't expected to have a strong reception, and it was the least anticipated release amongst all the other games they had coming out.

They could charge me twice the amount and I'd blindly buy the game. From the videos, it's fucking hilarious, and has new mechanics and awesomeness that I loved in the original.

GET IT.

If you haven't played Portal don't click!
Remember when the platform was sliding into the fire pit and I said "Goodbye" and you were like "No way!" And then I was all "We pretended we were going to murder you?" That was great!

Edit: I'm not going to spend $45 on a game if it only takes 4 hours or so to beat. I wouldn't even have bought Modern Warfare 2 if it didn't have multiplayer (which is what I was interested in anyway) since that game was way too short at, what was it 8 hours?

Certainly a poor game length to investment ratio (assuming it's about 5-6 hours), though the awesome brilliance to investment ratio stand a fair chance of making up for it.

I'm willing to bet my money on it. Valve tend to really deliver whenever they finally come around to delivering.

I'd say it's worth about 2 copies of portal 1, which by today's prices, means it should be free.

In all seriousness, I'd still get it if it was $120, so yeah, it's worth the $60.
