The engine definitely looks a whole lot shinier too!

I wonder how much time is meant to have passed since Portal...the facility is really looking quite overgrown.

Is that an updated Source engine I see? It looks somewhat shinier.

They always upgrade it. That said the video is almost certainly made with their Source Filmmaker which basically takes actual gameplay footage and then turns it up to 11 with motion and focal blur, actual lighting instead of baked, volumetric light beams, etc.
We can expect the game to look similar just a whole lot less filmic and with marginally different lighting.

Aw c'mon. They announced that Glados was returning since waaaaay back, some time after they announced the game itself.

Sequels usually carry over their key/main characters regardless of medium, its a perfectly natural thing to do. Besides GLADOS is as big a part of Portal as Chelle in my opinion.

And this was awesome.

I know, but it seems to me that they looked at the fandom and said:

"We need a checklist"

I guarantee that Portal 2 will include

-GLADOS (Now sort of self explanatory)
-A reference or appearence of Cake
-A reference or appearence of the companion cube

I read somewhere they were going to avoid repeating the things that made the game humourous and look for new things so that they could keep it fresh, and funny, and not just repeat the same jokes. Apparently Valve are also sick of the near constant cake meme plaguing the internet and do not wish to use it again. So I don't think cake or the Companion Cube will be making a return, maybe.
