I would say a poser is usually easy to spot becuase they spend their time calling other people posers while the other people are just living.

For example a poser gamer is quite likely someone who harps on 'casual' games and bitches that they are 'hardcore' instead of just enjoying good games and living their lives.

I see a poser as anybody that mimics what's going on around and fitting in instead of standing out. Incidentally by that definition, everyone's a poser.

Any or all of these is a disqualifying factor.
Avenged, KSE and Trivium have some great metal albums out. I know I'm a metalhead and I do have a complete discography of these bands. I may not adore every album but I have still given them a listen.

Anyone who calls themselves a metalhead based on listening to 1 Dragonforce track on guitar hero is a poser.
First off: Prove it

Secondly: Yes

Emo's pose off of Goths. Emo culture in general is a posing of Goth and 70's Punk.

My best friend used to do that. He was just making fun of emos though. He could imitate them so well. He could do flawless imitations of just about every social group at our school. It was hilarious.

I wear clothes based on comfort, not style. Sure, style plays a little part in what I buy, but, here are examples:

I wear a blue hoodie. Plain blue. I live in one of the coldest states in the U.S., so I also have another plain blue hoodie with fake wool lining. That is my winter coat.

The only pants i wear are jeans. That's it. Baggy jeans. I'm thinking of getting back into cargo pants, because I used to wear them a few years ago, and I remember how comfortable they are. That, and the extra pockets will allow me to bring more electronics places without having to resort to a backpack (i never go anywhere without at least a solid weeks worth of things to do, just in case)

I'm overweight, I admit it. I can comfortably wear 2x shirts, but i always get 3x anyways, because they're more comfortable. I prefer plain shirts, actually. Solid non-primary colors, usually dark. I have to admit that my two favorite shirts are my Herp Society shirt, and my Renaissance Festival shirt, though.

I really don't give a damn about the latest fashion crap. Oh no! There's a slight chance that somebody half way around the world might be wearing the same brand of shoes as me? Who cares? 7 billion(ish) people, there's a chance that that somebody somewhere is dressing exactly like me. Couldn't care less.

hmmm... A Poser is someone with a completely different attitude, style, and personality trying to be something on the far other side of the spectrum.

Let's use some examples.Remember, this is just my opinion.

Jeff is a nice kid. He likes some classic rock, he's got a short hair cut, very pale, and generally nice to people. Then one day, Jeff is talking to friends, and he keeps on calling everyone Dog. Now to Jeff, Jeff is the mac daddy pimp whatever you want Jeff to think of himself. BUT, To everyone else, Jeff is fucking annoying at this point. Very very very annoying. Jeff changes nearly NOTHING about him to make him more "Gangsta" but yet, he talks like he's fixing to cap someone. I mean, this was Jeff, the nice kid from the block. Now he wants to be a Baller? Everyone is soon disgusted with Jeff's actions and call him a poser. Now Jeff is an outcast. But hey, Jeff's cool! Jeff's mom says he's cool.....
Oh man, that just made my day. Thank you for that... My Homie G dog skille- You know what, I'm just going to stop right there.

Anyone who buys shirts with Che Guevara on it to seem "rebelious." I'm sure he would have despised that.
What happens if you buy the T-shirt because it's ironic?
You're a hipster?

Anyways, I consider myself a metalhead, and have heard of, but have never listened to any of those bands listed above. Should it stay that way?

people who try to act tough

you all know what i am talking about
Lol i remember soo many kids from school who would walk around and act all tough and shit. arms too far out like they've trained their flyers or just had nails in their armpit.

Worst think is when someone acted up and was all tlike "You wanna fight? u wanna get busy?" and almost ran away when you took a sudden step towards them.

I think defining posers by the clothes they wear is wrong. A lot of people wear what they like, for insatnce almost all of my t-shirts are 2 sizes too large and i wear baggy pants big enough to almost fit 2 legs in each of the pants-legs, i just like big loose clothing, i'm definitly not a gangster.

And though i hate fashin and brand-clothes like gucci and stuff i don't think everyone who wears those expensive brands are trying to be dumb hollywood blondes like Paris Hilton.

Defining people by clothes (and music tbh) is useless imo. Define people by their actions and stop the stereotyping and generalisation.

Also, posers are people who pose for pictures, like lingerey models.. mmmm lingerey models *dools*

Same thing with the 1 Slayer/Iron Maiden/Metallica track. I hate it when people at my school wear Iron Maiden shirts and think they're fans because they heard The Trooper and Number of the Beast on Guitar Hero.
