I had been back from the middle east for four days when this picture was taken while on vacation in Orlando, Florida.

Shortly before the previous, this picture was taken as we were finally packing in our gear for the trip South and out of that miserable hell-hole. You can't tell in that photo, but it was about 115 degrees outside. I'm the one on the right

The sunglasses were purchased as a protest of a relatively silly policy the Army held that asserted my original set of sunglasses were not suitable for wear in uniform as they were not "conservative" enough. So, I figured what was more conservative than a style that was decades out of fashion?

They were prescription at the time so I kept up with the set. When I had eye surgery that alleviated the need to wear glasses, I had the sunglasses converted because it seemed like the simplest way to get a decent set of sunglasses again.

So, no it wasn't really about a particular look but rather a result of me being childish about some silly rule. Now that I've been wearing them for four years, it is as a defining a part of my personal style as anything else and is one of the only constants in my garb.
