(Same feelings with Dimmu Borgir to a lesser extent, Everything after Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia sucked major balls apart from Stormblast MMV which was a remake, difference is Dimmu Borgir still had kick ass songs such as Vredesbyrd off of Death Cult Armageddon and Dimmu Borgir off of Abrahadabra, In Sorte Diaboli has no redeeming factor though)

Grace is pretty much the only Lamb of God song I can stand nowadays, that is such a kick ass song.

Municipal Waste are awesome but I would never love a song by them, there isn't really much depth to their music, it's mainly just fun.

That last song has awful vocals, and a shite chorus but that main riff is quite awesome, good for a mosh pit.

Spoiler: Love: Blind Guardian - Wheel of Time Blind Guardian has produced two of my favourite albums of all time. A Night at the Opera and Nightfall in Middle Earth. Why? Because the songs they write are rife with a sense of epicness: mostly played straight, usually very good lyrics and usually a sense of grandeur without drifting off into bland cliche. Their latest albums after A Night at the Opera were very much Meh but occasionally that ingeniousness from days past I can see again as in the case of Wheel of Time.

Spoiler: Meh: Rhapsody of Fire - Knightrider of Doom And this is where it gets into Meh territory: the songs not only start to sound samey but also get more and more cliched - I really can't stand that. RoF still manages to captivate me often enough with their unwavering power and they sometimes also get that sense of grandeur - but far less often than I would like. Perfect example of the Mehness, this song.

Spoiler: Me no likey: Manowar - Die With Honor Man...these guys are just so silly and their songs so utterly boring, cliched and uninspired to me...I really can't stand most of it. This just being one example of many.

Spoiler: Genre: Progressive Metal

Spoiler: Love: Symphony X - The Odyssey Where the Blind Guardian thing was more powerish, this is a more progressive variant of something truly epic: The Odyssey, as imagined in metal counting a total of 24 minutes of runtime. And each second of it is fucking awesome. From Ulysses longing when staring at the deep blue sea accentuated by quiet acoustic guitars over the power-metallish clash with the Cyclops up to it's final epic conclusion. Brilliant

Spoiler: Meh: Opeth - Folklore Well Opeth is one of my favourite bands but their latest album is kind of subpar. Not that it is bad but it is just so .... forgetable. I do not know....that's also why I just took one of the songs on there.

Spoiler: Me no likey: Dream Theater - Repentance Don not get me wrong: Dream Theater is a very good band and I dearly love some of their albums and songs. But this one....not so much. It is essentially too long and too boring for me. I see what they wanted to portray with that and I really like those vocal parts in the songs. Still does not make it less boring, though.

Spoiler: Genre: Avantgarde

Spoiler: Love: Estradasphere - The Dapper Bandits Genres? Where we go we do not any Genres. Yeah...it is avantgarde, so it gleefully mixes genres, plays with styles and timing until there is nothing left of any genre to speak of. This song is kind of jazzy-fusiony and many of Estradaspheres songs are like that - till you come to the black metal songs...yeah...Anyway...this song manages the perfect balance of being insane while still listenable and it is so joyful and varied that I've got to love it for this.

Spoiler: Meh: Ephel Duath - The Passage Trying to fuse Jazz with metal is a great idea but somehow that song is just meh. I personally dislike the screeching screaming and overall directionlessness. The Jazz passages and non-screaming parts are good though, leaving me with a meh.

Spoiler: Me absolutely no understandy: Hemophiliac - Dizzy Spells At some point when looking at avantgarde music you come to the point where you just do not get it. This happened exactly here when I found Mike Patton had made an album with John Zorn and Ikue Mori. I just don't get that - this time in a bad way though, because listening for too long makes my head hurt.

Spoiler: BONUS Brilliant: Kayo Dot - The Antique A Band that constantly challenges me and my idea of what I like and what not. To me, this band is the unexplored country, the wild west of music where I dare venture once in a while only to stumble back utterly confused at what I have seen. Their style ranges from deeply disturbing to unbelievably calming but always has this certain layer of melancholy and strangeness to it - listening to it is always work. Work that can be rewarding like hell if one takes the time to do it. Some songs are brilliant, some are insane and a lot are jarringly disturbing and mysterious. Just one example, just one, that encapsulates this perfectly: The Antique for you to listen to and for you to know what I mean. It is brilliant. It is bad and unintelligible. It is definitely not meh. It is my mind being blown away and me trying to pick up the pieces - without a mind that can understand what pieces actually are. True Art.
