With the sunlight beaming down on his head of black hair and business suit through the glass of the shop, Wrack sat waiting for one of his employees to return to him, getting more annoyed with each passing second. He was already a full two minutes late, and the atmosphere of this place was starting to annoy him. All around him, there were people enjoying newspapers, drinking coffee, or what he found most annoying, a small group of people chatting loudly not far from him.
Focusing on one among the group for a second, a large man wearing a jacket for something called 'UT', he began chanting under his breath, his hand making tiny movements as he did so. As he did, his vision went black for a few seconds, then manifested as the one he had been watching. His vision was all over the place, moving to both girls nearby, then finally going back to the screen. It was gossip news, the same kind of drivel he had been trying to avoid since the old days. It was how incriminating news got around, even if these people didn't fully realize it.
Breaking his hold on the man's vision and returning to his own, he'd had enough of the chatting group. As he began moving to another table, he then saw the person he was waiting for enter the shop. He was a young man in his early twenties, a new hire more or less. "Caught in traffic?"
"Something like that." said the young man.
"I see. The traffic in this city is weird sometimes." Wrack said, trying to draw some amusement out of the situation. He knew it was, yet the youth of the world never seemed unwilling to complain about things around them.
"True. That's what happens when the roads go one way."
Wrack then sat back down, his hands folded on the table as he gestured for his employee to do the same. "If you are ready, please detail to me what you have achieved." he said.
- South Hermann Park -
It was around 3:10 when Alex finally arrived at the sub shop on the outskirts of Hermann, a place going by the name SubMariner. Every time he saw the name, he couldn't help but smile. The owner knew how to do that with most of his customers, and even his shop's sign was proof of it. While he could have driven to it, the weather was finally breaking out of a line of summer rain from the last three days, and he was getting bored of using his car all the time.
Inside, the shop was surprisingly busy for the time of day it was. Most of the seats and booths were full, leaving maybe five open for more customers, but the line was short enough for him to order quickly. "Some customer giving you guys a hard time again?" asked the cashier.
"Not really. I'm used to it, but they never cease to annoy me." Alex replied.
"I know. We get them too."
Alex 'humfed' at that before taking his change and late lunch in his hands with a "Thank you." Although he could've returned to Fireside to eat, he needed a break from the atmosphere of the store, having been on shift since 10:00. Still, even with long hours and the occasional snob, the job was enjoyable.
As he sat enjoying the steak and cheese sub, he heard a voice nearby that was addressing him. "Mind if I sit here?" Looking up with his mouth still full of steak, the person addressing him was holding two baskets for his subs, both steaming and sitting on his arms. He looked Vietnamese or of some kind of Asian descent.
Swallowing as fast as he could, Alex replied with, "Yeah, sure. You waiting for someone?"
"No. Both of these are mine."
Taking another look at the guy as he sat down, Alex began to recognize him as as one of the customers he had checked out before the angry woman showed up earlier. "You were buying those Superman comics before, right?" he asked as the person began eating one of his subs.
"Yeah, that was me." The person then produced a Fireside bag with the very same comics Alex had sold him before. "Small world, huh?"
"No kidding." Alex said with a chuckle. "Oh, mind if I ask for your name?"
"Sure." The person then held out his right hand, Alex returning the shake after his hands were free. "It's David."
"Alex. Pleasure."
After the handshake, Alex went back to eating. For a while, he and David didn't speak, although he did catch him peering outside every so often like he was watching for something. Curious, he looked around also but didn't see anything out of the ordinary. People were running the tracks, walking with their kids, the usual stuff for an afternoon around here.
Then, out of the corner of his eye, he saw a streak of red against the blue sky, almost like lightning. It was barely there for a second before it vanished, making Alex wonder exactly what he had just seen. "Huh." he said out loud.
"What?" David asked.
"I thought I just saw...I don't know. Red lightning, or something."
Suddenly, David's meal was out of his hands and his tone became more serious. "Where?"
Alex pivoted in his chair and gestured to where he believed he had seen the 'lightning'. "South of here, near the playground I..." Before he even finished, David was out of his seat and already rushing for the door, barely saying thanks before he did. Without stopping, he crossed a busy street in seconds along with, to Alex's shock, actually parkouring over the front of a car that came close to hitting him.
The mere sight of the event made his adrenaline surge. "What the hell's he doing?" At this point, he was so stunned at what he was seeing he was barely noticing the masses of people looking in his direction. Somehow feeling like he had caused this, he got up and followed, trying not to run like a madman.
"Why would he just run off like that?" Alex though as he picked up his pace outside, trying to avoid being hit by other cars on the same street. Ahead of him, David was more quickly covering ground than he. He had to be sprinting, but why was a mystery. There was nothing ahead of them, nor around them. Had he done something to make his guy act like he was, or was he yanking his chain by acting like this?
As he continued running and pondered what was going on, ahead of him, he saw David slow down, eventually coming to a stop by a large oak tree near the jogging trail, several people nearby joining him to see what was going on. Panting, he ran up next to him, leaning back on his legs to slow down. For a second, he couldn't say anything without being incensed. "What was that for? Are you nuts?"
"No. I know what I'm doing." David said, panting himself. He then looked around some before turning to Alex. He began to respond, but then for a second, there was silence. "Wait a second. Why did you follow me?"
"I want to know why you acted like this was an action movie just now, that's why." Alex replied, trying to act serious even though he knew he was being smart. He didn't have to wait long for an idea.
Nearby, another bolt zipped by, followed by another one actually striking the ground about ten feet from the two of them. However, it didn't kick up any dirt or make a very loud snap like normal lightning. What it did do however was something that would be forever cemented in Alex's memory.
As he watched, the bolt created a circle at the impact point, which started small but quickly grew to one that was about ten feet in diameter in a matter of seconds. In the shadow of the tree, he could see some small lines in the design, along with what he was certain was the face of a demon in the center of it. The design then began to glow and within it, there spawned four beings. All of them had red scaled skin like a dragon would but none of them had wings. Instead, they had clawed hands and feet, misshapen, almost semi-canine like faces with minor horns, and near some of their joints, leathery wing-like flaps.
The creatures, which Alex was afraid to even think of what they could possibly be, gave off a series of screeches not unlike what ravens would make as they focused on the group of people as well as he and David. Behind him, some of the people were beginning to scream in horror. He couldn't blame them. What had just happened was something that he never knew was possible.
"Get them away." David said, throwing one arm back before he readied himself into a defensive stance, his arms up and at the ready like a boxer would do.
Instead of directly listening, Alex instead tried to act like a guard, stepping in front of the civilian group to calm them down. He may have barely spoken to this guy, and while every nerve ending in his body, especially his legs, was saying 'Run', he wasn't about to let him act like some movie hero and take on these four by himself.
They weren't of this world. That much he knew. He didn't know what they were, but right now, his defensive instincts were starting to kick in. "Screw running." he thought. Fighting the adrenaline surges, fear, and his racing pulse, Alex got into his Krav Maga defense stance.
Everyone, if you're wondering what to do at this point, think of this part of the RP as early roleplaying. Play out a scenario where your PC discovers something's going on, like Alex just had happen, or a scenario where you discover one or more of the Rangers fighting these creatures off. If you want, you can start teaming up now with one or two other players and work with each other; just be sure to show how you found one another.
If you have other ideas in mind, by all means, feel free to show those instead of what I'm suggesting here. This is just in case anyone is in question about what to do as of right now, or needs an idea for a jumping off point.
Carefully, Corrine tried to balance herself carefully on the ladder, leaning forward to put away a few books as she did while holding on to a few more in one hand. Tricky, but she had had time to perfect this technique.
She had moved to Houston from a small town in Kansas the previous year, she had taken a job at this small bookstore to pay the bills. It wasn't much, put it was rewarding in its own ways.
Having finished her task, Corrine glanced down at her watch, noting that it was about lunch time. She slid down the ladder and went to get her purse and a book to read.
"I'm going on my lunch break!" she called over to her friend and fellow employee, an older woman named Diana. "You want anything?"
Diana just shook her head. "No, you go on ahead, I still have some work to finish up here."
Corrine nodded. "Can do!" and with that, she slung her purse over her shoulder and made her way to the local diner at the corner. She took the time to appreciate the pleasant day. What could possibly...
Then in an instant, everything changed.
Lighting seemed to strike the ground, bringing in its wake a group of creatures resembling deformed dragons. People began running and screaming, but Corrine froze, feeling practically rooted to the spot by fear.
W-What... what the hell are those things?!
She could see the... whatever they were... going after people, and she knew she should run... but at the same time, some instinct was urging her to fight.
As the creatures approached, she dropped into a defensive stance, ready to defend herself at all costs.
As Brad was running down the road, He felt glad that he left his books at a locker at the collage he goes to, because he dident think he would be able to keep his ballance running down the steep hill he was running on without falling on his face.
Comming to a even spot after the hill, he had to start breathing hard, using his knees as a suppot, he leaned agenst a wall, checking his watch.
"Already 20 minutes late, screw it, its just one class today..." He said to himself, done catching his breath.
'I mean, yes, My partents are paying my way to go to collage, its just a drop in the bucket for them... I dont want to go to collage, I would reather just keep my job with Leon, its exciting, fun, and easy, the only thing easier would be to write jingles for Cracker Jacks or something.' He thought to himself as he put a buck into a vending machine and started drinking the Pepsi.
While he was walking, he heard a loud crackling of lightning. As the young man tilted his hat up to see the flash of red lightning, he couldent help but wonder if someone opened up a portal to hell. "God i play too many video games..." he chuckled to himself as he continued to walk, only to stop again, seeing two men running, one doughing a car by the skin of his hand.
Should I... Wait... CRAP! That cute girl is in that class!' Brad thought, realizing a girl he likes is in the class he was missing, and with that, the young man dashed like the wind, wondering what the hell he just saw, with the two men, the whole time.
As he made it to the campus, The young man looked around, seeing a few collage students comming and going between the sky high buildings. "You know, forget it, ill see her later." He sighed, sitting on a stone step in front of him, looking into the sky, wondering what the hell that red lightning was or what it ment.
With little time to think, Screaming erupted from the common area outside of the science building, With little thought, Brad ran to see what was going on, little did he know what he was getting into.
As students ran past him, Brad ran forward, only to see dog faced, horned demons in front of him, 3 of them in total, trying to attack the people fleeing by, Smashing nad destoroying objects near them.
The young man was about to run when he saw a couple being attacked, a large claw hand in the air, about to come down on there skulls. Without thinking, Brad ran at the beast, kicking it in the lower left side of his chest, sending it tumbling to the ground, alerting the other two to his pressence.
"Get out of here you two!" Brad yelled at the couple, the man picking hte woman up and running away, leaving Brad to fend off agenst the three.
"Well, no running now..." He muttered, droping into his Taiquando stance.
Ethan woke up, a slight pounding in his head as he felt the aftereffect of the alcohol he had last night, at least he got it better than his friends, who were lying in a puddle of their own drool. The surest sign that last night was a fun time had by all.
"Good to see you up" Ethan spun in the direction of the words to see the guy he had met last night after the fight. "maybe I did have a bit too much last night" Ethan said, "you were pretty drunk last night, I talked to you about a... 'business' offer, and you insisted I join you here, saying you were too drunk to talk business."
"Ah, alright, now it's coming back to me, sorry I was... a little worried for a sec. Greg, right?" Ethan was suddenly hit by how dark it was in the hotel room. "fuck, let's get these windows open." As he ripped open the blinds he saw a bright red flash in the distance. "The hell was that?" he asked Greg behind him, and saw him run out of the hotel room. "Oh the hell if I let you do that" Ethan bolted out of the hotel room following Greg.
As they got close to where the lightning struck Ethan saw a further lightning bolt strike the ground, but instead of the usual chaos he saw a circle grow on the ground, and a series of mysterious... "creatures" that looked like an Egyptian mythologists wet dream. And he saw a small group of people running up to the lightning strike like him and Greg. Greg ran up to the 'monsters' and assumed a defensive position, Ethan had stopped for a second, awestruck at these "things", but when he saw the man he followed getting ready to fight, Ethan did the same, taking position between Greg and the others that arrived.
Nathanel looks up into the sky as he stands waiting for the crosswalk to go green.
*The sky is too blue today...*
Shaking his head and seeing the crosswalk now green. "Finally" brushing past all the people aggressivly. A few people "happily vocalizing" their opinion of his rudeness. He rolls his eyes and rushes his way through the walkway into the northern part of Hermann Park. Taking a deep breath, smiling, and starts to walk down the pathway further into the park.
He takes out his mp3 and puts in the earplugs. Turns it on. "Time to drown out the noise with better noise." Bobbing his head up and down as he enjoys his music. Looking at the grass, he kneels down and passes his hand over it.
"At least people are kind enough to keep their park nice and clean." getting up to continue walking down and sees a man on a bench waving at him. "There he is." Turning down his music and walking over to his friend.
"Hey Nick, sorry I'm late." having a seat next to him. "Too many people out in the streets today."
"Oh really," Nick replying as he's looking over at Nathanel "still," pulling out a bag of seeds and plopping it down on Nathanel's lap "their they are, just as you asked."
Picking up the bag and looking them over, he then notices something says "These are-" quicking being interupted by a flash of lightning down to the center of the park. "What in the.." seeing impish monsters spawning and leaping around attacking the people.
"You know what" slamming the bag of seeds on Nick "You get to run away holding onto that, I'm not done with you." Getting up and beginning to charge down the pathway and stopping behind a tree.
"Alright," sighing and looking around to observe the monsters "certainly are ugly little chiggers aren't they." seeing one looking at him and coming at him "Oh heck." getting into his fighting stance. "Alright you chigger! COME ON!" yelling at him, his adrenline causing him to grin.
As Luke proceeded with his work, working the sheep through his lane, casually insulting and mocking them as they passed. Clearly his sadistic Serpent personality was at work here. He looked up at the clock on the wall and saw that it was nearly 3:00, way past his lunchtime.
"Hey Lengel! I'm gonna go get some Food! I'll be back in..." Luke's voice trailed off intentionally so that his boss could not hear him add "Never." Luke closed up the lane and directed the rest of the customers to other aisles. He walked into the electric eye and the doors of the store slid open and granted him safe passage into the outside world.
The store was located about a block or so from Luke's favorite sub sandwich shop. In between, was a small park with a large circular fountain. With benches surrounding the Fountain and trees behind the benches. The park was fairly well populated for this time of day. Old sheep were sitting in the benches beneath the trees, young sheep were chasing each other around the fountain in a game of keep away. However, there was a fox amongst this crowd of sheep. Sitting on the edge of the fountain, flaming red hair, medium bust, glowing pale skin, skinny jeans, and a form fitting red t-shirt.
"Well Well well, What do we have here? A diamond in the rough!?" Luke smirked to himself as he approached the young woman. "Why hello there little doll. What brings you to this part of the city?" He Asked her with a dry tone in his voice.
The woman looked up at him and gave him a funny look. "Uh, Do I know you?" She replied with hesitance, sizing up Luke.
"Ah! I seem to have forgotten to introduce myself! Haha! My name is Lu-" Luke was cut short by a flash of red lightning, followed immediately by a sonic boom. The lightning struck right on the opposite side of the fountain, startling all the sheep and causing them to all crowd around the impact area. Luke and his new friend were no exception. A demonic symbol resembling a demon head was outlined on the concrete in a blood red color. From it, four creatures arose. Possibly the best way to describe them would be humanoid dragons, complete with wing flaps around the arms, fangs, claws, and scales.
The sheep, whose tendency was to stare at new things until they started making sense, did not have to wait long before things became perfectly clear. The creatures lashed out at everyone, unmistakeably hostile. The frightened sheep scattered and fled before the creatures could harm them
The woman that Luke was attempting to get to know screamed as one of the creatures leaped over the fountain and landed between Luke and the girl. It reached out and grabbed her by her shirt and lifted her into the air.
A mild headache overtook Luke as a new persona took over. The headache lasted only a moment, for the next, he was in the air performing a jump crescent kick into the side of the creature's head, not hurting it, but knocking it a few feet to the side. Most importantly, he had separated it from the girl, who landed on her feet and was standing directly behind Luke.
"Hey asshole!!! How'd my foot taste!?" Luke laughed pridefully as he got into a defensive stance, holding his fists up in a guarding position. "I may be a plain asshole sometimes, but i know damn well how to treat a lady. Come near her again, and i will kick your ass all the way back to hell!" Luke barked at the monster.
Seeing their comrade take a kick to the head, the other three swarmed around Luke and slowly began to circle him, like sharks, hungrily eyeing their meal. The park was now empty, no one save Luke, the girl, and the four monsters.
"HRAAAAAAH!!!" A new voice cried out from behind Luke and the girl. A man clad in an ice blue spandex suit with a matching helmet and a cape with a White wolf emblazoned on it flipped over the fountain and landed beside Luke in a fighting stance. "Need some help?" The man asked Luke sarcastically.
"Nah I can take these jokers on all on my own." Luke growled, angry that someone would dare interrupt his attempt to impress the girl sitting scared against the fountain.
"Oh, well in that case." The man turned around and touched the water inside the fountain. Within a few seconds, the Fountain was completely iced over. This created a platform of ice above where the water spouts up. The man back flipped and landed perfectly on top of the ice platform. "I'll just be here in case you need me." He told Luke with a cocky air around him.
While Luke was distracted by the man, one of the monsters had crept forward and now lunged at Luke with his fist. Luke turned around just in time to watch the creature's fist sail into his cheek. Luke was knocked back onto the iced fountain where he lay stunned for a couple seconds. His cockiness was fading fast as he leaned up, spitting out a bit of blood onto the ice. As soon as Luke's daze wore off, he quickly got up and resumed his fighting stance.
"You son of a *****! HRAAH!" Luke quickly jabbed the creature's snout and side kicked it in the lower abdomen, making it double over. He quickly reeled back and prepared to uppercut the creature, but the other three jumped on him at once and knocked him back into the fountain right next to the woman.
She yelped as Luke slumped next to her. "H-hey! Get up! Th-They're getting closer!!!" She pleaded with Luke.
"Ugh, yeah, i noticed." Luke hissed as he painfully got up and back into his fighting stance.
"You still don't need help?" The man on top of the fountain asked rhetorically.
A headache swept through Luke's mind as a new persona took the reigns. "No, I do need your help! I cannot take these creatures on my own! They are too powerful! Come and fight with me!" Luke pleaded with the man. The creatures drew ever closer to Luke who was still in fighting condition.
"Very well, Hraaah!" The man agreed. He leaped off of the fountain and landed beside Luke. "Don't let your guard down for an instant! These creatures are not as honorable as you and I!"
At the end of that warning, the creatures pounced again...
James sighed and looked down at his iTouch. "Man, I need some new music on this thing." He hit the next button and was suddenly pleased with the new song.
James was sitting on a park bench. He liked to take this way home from work even though it added a good 5 minutes to his commute. This isn't including the time he usually spends sitting on his favorite bench watching people walk by hoping that he might see someone he knew and wouldn't have to go home quite yet. Or maybe even returning to his apartment with someone. He didn't like to be alone.
James leaned his head back and closed his eyes. He soon got lost in the music and was nearly asleep when he was awakened by a sudden shove that nearly knocked him off of the bench. He opened his eyes to see that it was a girl from his biology class.
The girl was considerably shorter than he was. She had long, straight, red hair. Her crystal blue eyes were hidden behind a pair of sexy-librarian glasses. She had a thin figure and was wearing a t-shirt and blue jeans.
"Tired?" the girl asked.
"A little. Plus I just don't wanna go home. There isn't anyone there. It's too boring. I was kinda hoping for someone to hang out with." James said hopefully.
The girl laughed understanding what James was implying. "Ok I will come with you. But on one condition." James grinned already guessing what was coming next by the tone in her voice. "No funny business, mister." She finished with a laugh.
"Alri-" James was cut short by an odd sight. He saw a red flash of lightning touch down near the fountain in the middle of the park. "What the hell was that?" He exclaimed jumping from his bench and pointing toward the spot he saw the lightning hit.
"What was what?" The girl asked, confused.
"THAT!" James yelled as the girl turned to see what it was and caught the sight of a second bolt that hit near the fountain again. "RUN!"
James watched as the girl quickly fled. That was a shame. I might have actually had a good time tonight. Thought James
Just then another bolt of lightning hit about ten feet from him, and four odd-looking demons appeared. James sighed and took his normal fighting stance with his fists in front of his face and waited for one of his opponents to make the first move...
Everyone's OP's are in, so now you may proceed as you see fit.
If you brought in a Ranger, remember that they will be part of initial team mentioned in the Synopsis, so I may ask to borrow them to advance the plot at points. For now however, they are considered your NPCs, so use them as you need, but they fall under the same restrictions as your PCs while this is the case.
The four monsters that had spawned from the circle, for a second, just kept making noises instead of taking any real action. Alex cocked his head at that, but as if that was a hair trigger for these things, they were quickly on the attack, three of them ganging up on David at once, while the last one came after him.
The people behind Alex had other ideas than he and David did. Not long after he was prepared to defend himself and them, he heard more shouting and people telling others to run away behind him. The result was not what he wanted, nor what he needed. The creature coming his way changed direction and went after them instead of him, along with one of the creatures attacking David.
Seeing what was happening, Alex abandoned his defense posture and shifted on his feet, repositioning just in time to launch a tackle at the first monster. "No, you don't." Alex said. His arms wrapped around the waist of the creature and he collided with it, sending both of them crashing into the grass. However, the tackle was not his best move as the second creature leapt over him, continuing it's pursuit of everyone he had tried to defend. Cursing himself for reacting the way he had, Alex didn't see the one he was on go for his collar, and within seconds he was thrown off.
His adrenaline surging, Alex quickly repositioned himself and shot to his feet, shaking but stable. As the creature tried to do the same, he wound up a soccer kick and launched it at the back of creature's ribcage. The impact flipped it over and over several times like a ragdoll, giving him a chance to run for the second one, which was just catching up to two of the group from before.
------------
Meanwhile, David was busy fending off the other two Wyrmlings when he realized that there was one less than before. As one of them swung at his head, he snagged the demon's scaly arm and flipped it's body over his shoulder, sending it crashing to the ground with a hard smack against the concrete as he tried to figure out where the other one had gone.
He then saw Alex in hot pursuit of one, with another lying in the grass nearby. "Oh, great." Dispatching the second Wyrmling with a sweep of his leg, David was off after Alex, stopping only to do a drop kick against the chest of the third Wyrmling.
------------
Sprinting like he was escaping a raging fire, Alex quickly running out of breath. For a second, he wondered why he was even bothering trying to catch this thing since the first one had barely put up a fight besides throwing him off it. He had some training in Krav Maga and Akido, sure, but if these things were so weak that he could disable them by kicking and tackling them, what was the point?
Slowing down to try and catch his breath, he heard someone running up behind him, followed by a slap against his clavicles. "Don't stop." The voice belonged to David.
"I'm not; just not sprinting anymore, thanks." Alex snapped, taking quick breaths as David ran ahead of him. Ahead of them, the lone creature was itself losing ground against the running civilians. Alex breathed a great sigh and laughed at it as he worked to catch up with it and David.
As he did, the creature looked like it was coughing for a second, prompting David to speed up. Again, he raised an eyebrow. That was twice he had reacted with such fervor at something these things were doing or causing. Was he missing something besides them being unnatural?
David soon caught up to the creature and using his momentum, planted his left foot on the back of the thing and swept his right shoe into it's face. The maneuver swept the creature off it's feet and onto it's back, his foot coming to rest on it's neck as he landed. Further ahead, all the civilians made it away.
"Geez." Alex said as he caught up, planting his hands on his thighs as he stopped. "You OK?"
His expected reply was interrupted by the creature now hissing at them, far louder than he even thought. Without flinching David backed off, and as the watched, the creature began to glow then in a burst of fire dissolved into a pile of ash.
At this point, Alex he had to ask the question on his mind. "What...are these things?"
"They're called Wyrmlings." David replied, kicking some of the ash away. "Don't let the name fool you, though; they have nothing to do with dragons."
"I figured." Alex paused for a second to catch another breath. "That was the last one, right?"
"Yeah. You took down one, I think. Nice going."
"No problem."
Looking up, Alex noticed a few of the people who were being chased before cheering and thanking them before getting back on with their respective days. He didn't respond beyond a hand wave, however; David had done most of the work.
Then, as both he and David were turning to go back to the sub shop, behind him came the sounds of lightning he had heard before. Not once, but three times. All three bolts struck the ground in varying distances around them, once again spawning Wyrmlings in packs of four. Trying not to panic, Alex looked to his right where the bolts had come from, but aside from more people now yelling in fear and running away, he saw no spot where the bolts could come from. Looking at all the Wyrmlings surrounding him, he felt his spine shiver.
"Stick close, and don't run." David said in a strangely calm manner. "They'll just chase and attack you if you do that."
"David, we may not have a choice." Alex said matter of factually as his head swiveled to each potential attacker. "We're outnumbered."
"True, but let me even the odds." David then paused for a second, as if he was encouraging his temporary partner to answer him.
"You better have a gun, then."
"That, and I've got something far better."
Alex didn't respond to that. What they needed now was a machine gun, or a gigantic sword, or hell, the marines with a series of machine guns. Anything beyond just two guys with fists.
[font color=black][HEADING=2]"Creatures of yore, join my side!"[/HEADING][/font]
The phrase behind him made Alex spin around as soon as he heard it. David was holding his arms to his sides but all around him, an ethereal plasma was enveloping his body from head to foot, accompanied by the snarl of a wolf. When it was fully covering him, it shone brightly for a second, then like thin glass against a hammer shattered into bits.
What was revealed was David, now in a black/white uniform with a short black cape, and a wolf-esque helmet hiding his head. He then faced his partner, his face invisible behind the black visor, and handed him a silver pistol from his hip holster. "Here. Just give it back to me after this mess is over, alright?"
Alex only nodded and took the pistol, grinning widely as he held the strangely heavy gun in his hands. He had no idea what just happened, but he wasn't about to say 'No, thank you' to a superhero on his side.
Ethan stood off against the monsters in front of him, as one punched out, Ethan let his knees collapse and caught himself on his hands, taking a sort of reverse-wheelbarrow position, before kicking up violently with his leg into the space between the wyrmlings legs. But unfortunately the monster lacked the fleshy bits a Human would have in the same area.
Ethan lifted himself up and flipped over his hands, landing a few paces in front of the monster, and resumed his fighting stance. As the monster closed the distance Ethan spun out a hard kick, colliding his leg into the wyrmlings "face" and was rewarded with a satisfying crack as the beast collapsed.
As the one Ethan was fighting went down he turned and saw Greg handling two of them at the same time, he spun on his hands keeping his legs split, knocking them both down at the same time, then lifting and landing on one of them before punching the other while it was still on it's back.
Ethan turned again and saw another of the monsters going after a group of people. Ethan grabbed a branch and went after the monster, striking it heavily on the back and again across the head, to see it collapse like the other one.
Ethan turned to Greg, "alright, the fuck are these things?", Greg saw him and responded "they're called Wyrmlings, but now's really not the time, I'll explain the rest later" as they walked away from the mangled monsters the people who were nearby started cheering and applauding, maybe assuming that this was filming for some sort of movie. "how do you feel about breakfast?" Greg asked, "I could eat" Ethan replied.
As they walked away they heard the clap of thunder, followed by another, and another. They both spun and saw another twelve monsters coming towards them. "Seriously, the fuck is with these guys?" Ethan quipped, "We're going to need some more firepower" Greg said, "I'm all for that, but unless you can pull a shotgun out of your ass I think we're out of luck". "I think I can do you one better"
[HEADING=2]"Creatures of yore, join my side!"[/HEADING]
Ethan was stunned as he saw his companion bathed in an ethereal plasma and the screech of a large predator. The plasma shone and he saw Greg standing there wearing a green uniform with a helmet with a helmet resembling a Dragon. Greg unholstered a rifle that looked like an old cowboys repeater, if said cowboy were keeping with the general green-dragon motif that Greg displayed, and handed it to Ethan. Here, use this. "Got it." Ethan said, taking the rifle, he was glad he knew how to use one of these things.
As Brad fought the demons, they continued to destory solid stone tables, seats, even sides of buildings with there bare hands. "What have I gotten myself into..." Brad sighed, droping to his knees to douge a kick, only to quickley roll out of the way of a fist. 'Got to think of something...'
Then, an opening! One of them had there back turned, looking at the nearby students watching the fight, this was his chance. Jumping up from the ground, Brad charged at the beast, dorpkicking it square in the back, the dog faced monster ramming his head into the side of the building, breaking its horns off, causing it to howel in pain.
This minor victory was quickley overshowed by the other two demons grabbing the human by the arms, the third regaining his senses, ready to kill the creature that just broke his horns.
'well... guess this is it.' He thought, unable to break free of the demons, closing his eyes as he readied to meet his maker.
"Thunder strike!" A unfermiler voice echoed from the top of the science building, then, in a flash, a teal Lightning bolt hit the hornless demon in the skull, killing it within a moment, the other two looking up in wonder and fear of what this thing was as it floated down to the ground.
It was a strange woman that stood before Brad as the demons let go of her and backed up, cladded in teal with white highlights on teh suit, a waist length cape of the same color as her skin tight suit, A folded, reather large fan sliped into a holster on her right side.
"You ok?" She asked, Turning her head, which was encased in a, what had to be, a very hard plastic like material with a bird like visor looking back at the young man.
Blushing, Brad took hold of her hand, the suited woman pulling him up. "Im... Im fine." He muttered, looking at teh demons as they backed off. Brad looked back at the dead demon, in a flash, it burnt up and turned to ash, the dust of the former enemy blowing into the wind.
"Stand back." She said, in a smerky, almost sounding like she was having fun as she pulled out her fan the size of a monitor. With a sweep of her hand and a twist of her body, a wind storm trashed around the remaining demons, sending them flying into the air, the demons howling in fear as they lifted into the air. And with a quick snap close of the fan, two bolts of lighting struck the Dog faced monsters, killing them and sending there ashes into the wind, along with there friends.
"um... thanks..." Brad said, dusting himself off. She looked at him for a moment, Brad feeling her eyes staring at him, which made him blush more. "Be safe." She said, and with a whip of her fan, she dissapeared.
Students gathered around Brad, gauking and awing at him as he picked up his torn hat and walked away, well, more running, jumping into a tree to escaping from the croud that wanted to ask him questions.
"This mound of crap is going to grow..." he sighed as he looked at his scrached up hand.
Corrine fought off the creatures the best she could, using every technique she could recall at the moment to fend them off.
But she wasn't the only one fighting. Another woman, slightly older than Corrine, saw what was going on, and knew she had to act. But first, she had to make sure the creatures as were away from innocent civilians, she had to come up with a plan, and fast.
"Follow me you overgrown salamanders!" She shouted, and ran off into the park. Sure enough, the lizard monsters trailed behind her. Corrine watched her go, and, despite herself, took off after her, intent on seeing what she was planning.
After some intense running, she found the woman in an open area, surrounded by the... whatever they were. However, the woman did not seem worried at all.

She shouted, and in a flash, she was wearing a bright spandex-like oiutfit with a helmet and cape that all seemed vaugely familiar...
Ethan grabbed Greg's repeater, and swung the butt at the nearest monster, knocking on the ground, then stuck the barrel between its jaws and pulled the trigger, it immediately ceased thrashing around. As he swung the mechanism on the rifle he heard the sound of fighting behind him, and turned to see a younger girl fighting a small group of the things off in the distance. Ethan lined up the sights on the repeater at the monsters head, choosing one that was coming up from behind her, about to strike. He eased the trigger and saw the monsters head explode as it fell down next to her.
He ran up to her, cocking the mechanism and aiming as quickly as possible at the edge of the messy crowd, shooting anything that wasn't human. Ethan was impressed by a few things, one that this gun had yet to run out of bullets, nor had he seen any empty casings come out of the rifle. He was also impressed by how well this girl was handling these things, and that she was cute.
Ethan got close enough to the group of monsters to get down to the meat of fighting, and as a few broke off from the girl, he proceeded to use his legs to kick and the gun to bludgeon any of the monsters that got too close to him. And the girl handled the ones that didn't break off with admirable (although non-specific, not going to write for someone else's character) gusto.
As the things went down, Ethan turned to the girl. "These things have been kind of a pain in the ass, you alright?" he asked.
The four creatures leaped at Luke and the Ice Ranger. The pair dove straight underneath them, rolled, and quickly began their counter attack. The creatures' backs were now facing Luke and the Ice Ranger. The monsters were puzzled for a second as to where their prey had gone.
Luke and the Ranger both got into their fighting stances and charged at the monsters. Luke jumped and kicked one of the monsters square in the back of the head, sending it crashing forward into the fountain. Its partner whipped around and swung its clawed fist at Luke's head. Luke blocked with his forearm and delivered a swift uppercut to the creature's lower jaw, knocking the creature onto its back and cutting his hand on the creature's protruding fangs. Clutching his bleeding hand, Luke lifted his foot high above his foe's head and dropped it like a hammer on the poor monster's head. the impact crushed the being's skull, killing it. What happened next surprised Luke immensely. The Monster quickly disintegrated into ashes and blew away with the wind.
The other monster that Luke had engaged had since recovered from Luke's kick and took advantage of Luke's Distraction and Tackled him. Luke was knocked on his back and forced on the defensive as the creature sat on his chest and relentlessly pounded at Luke's guard.
The Ranger was fairing a great deal better. He simply created a sword of Ice and began slashing away. Within thirty seconds, he had reduced the monsters to ash. He turned to see how luke was doing and chuckled to himself as he saw the situation Luke was in. He walked up behind the creature and swung his sword at the creature's neck. The creature ceased its pounding as its brain was detached from the rest of its body and disintegrated into ash on top of Luke. The Ranger extended his arm and helped Luke to his feet.
"I hope I didn't interrupt anything between the two of you. I think he liked you." The ranger jested at Luke's expense.
"Heh, yeah we were planning dinner and a movie later." Luke chuckled back in good spirits. "Anyways, Just what were those things?"
"Those were wyrmlings. Don't worry though, my friends and I will take care of them." The ranger replied.
"okay, that settles that, now just who are you?" As if in response to Luke's Question, a bright light enveloped the man. His suit, cape and helmet all dispersed into light blue particles that blew away with the wind. There was a man, roughly in his 30s, tall, skinny, muscular, blonde hair, grey eyes.
"I'm Jason, the Ice Ranger, aaand i'm out of time, i'll see you around kid." Jason did a 180 and took off running.
"WAIT!" Luke shouted, but was too tired to run after him. Instead, luke walked back over to the frightened woman leaning against the still frozen fountain. "Sorry about that, are you alright?" Luke extended his uncut hand and helped her up.
"Ye-Yeah, i'm fine, just a little shaken up. Thanks for protecting me." She replied shakily.
"Don't mention it...I'm sorry i don't think i caught your name before we were attacked." Luke asked.
"Its Natalie, and you are?"
"I'm Luke, its very nice to meet you, and i hope that you would like to go out for lunch sometime...time..." Luke looked at his watch and noticed that his 1 hour lunch break had expired an hour ago. "Shit, i've been out too long, Can I please get your number? If i don't get back to my shop soon, my boss will take it out of my paycheck."
"Uh, sure. any guy that would fight for me like that can certainly take me out to lunch. " Natalie dug a card out of her pocket and scribbled her phone number on it and handed it to Luke.
"Thanks, well, i'll call you later! See Ya!" Luke thanked her and then promptly took off running towards his grocery store...

Turning to face the six Wyrmlings on his side of the conflict, David was quick to pull out a second pistol, this one from a back holster on his suit. Without another word to Alex, he took aim at two of the creatures and fired off several shots at them. The rounds gave a loud booming sound upon release, something Alex never knew a gun of that size could produce. The effect however was quick. The impact of the rounds dropped two of the twelve Wyrmlings, who writhed on the ground before dissolving into ash.
A hissing noise behind him got his attention back on the Wyrmlings who a second ago were staring at his back. Taking aim, Alex steadied on the closest one and squeezed the trigger of the pistol once. The round made impact on the creature's shoulder, no doubt affected by the greater recoil the weapon had and it's weight, but it just fazed the monster instead of killing it. Still, the power this thing had was immense and he felt it.
Now feeling a bit more confident from his witness of the gun's power, Alex began squeezing off more shots, taking down two himself. The Wyrmlings that he hadn't fired on yet though had other plans. Once again, he saw them coughing, or doing something like it. Again, he was lost at what was going on, until one of the Wyrmlings coughed up a wad of something into it's hands. While disgusted at first, as soon as the Wyrmling held the mass in it's clawed, scaly hands, it ignited into a fireball. "Oh, damnit." Alex thought, backing up into David.
"Get down." On cue with that, David whipped around and pushed Alex aside, making him fall on his back. He fired off a number of shots, knocking down two of the four Wyrmlings, but missed one of the two holding a firewad. The creature threw the fireball directly at David's face, which exploded on contact in a shower of fire and sparks, knocking him back. Alex rolled away from him as the shower fell and repositioned his aim as he got to his feet.
"Oh, that's it." he said. Aiming down the iron sights, he began firing rapidly, one handed, into the crowd of Wyrmlings. One, two, three, then four of them went down, all changing into ash from his volley of eleven shots. As they went down, Alex checked on David, who was picking himself up nearby. "You OK?"
David only nodded, but as he did, Alex heard coughing again and now the remaining four Wyrmlings were armed with the flaming wads. Reacting on instinct, he grabbed David's arm and yanked him up, pulling him away as the Wyrmlings threw the flaming wads at both of them. The fire from two of them grazed Alex's hair and work shirt, while another impacted David's waist, sending them flying into the grass a ways back.
"Ow. Damn, I'm sorry." Alex said as he picked himself up in preparation of another volley of fireballs.
"Don't be." David said as he took aim from his position on his back, pressing the grip hammer of his pistol. "Just aim, fire, and nuke these things. You with me?" He nodded his head, encouraging a response.
"You bet." Following his partner's lead, Alex took aim at the rightmost Wyrmlings, and on cue with David's first shot, opened a volley of his own. A chorus of over twenty rounds between them rang out, their impacts sparking on the Wyrmlings bodies and dropping them like flies. As the final one turned to ash, David and Alex both got to their feet, the latter one panting from the gunfight but not unwilling to pump his fist.
Corrinne blinked at the other boy's approach, she hadn't even heard him coming.
"Uh, yeah..." She looked towards where the pink-suited figure was fighting, and glancing back, saw another colorful figure fighting more of the lizard creatures.
James stood waiting for an attack for what seemed like hours. Finally, One charged at him. Without thinking about it, James lunged forward and ducked extending his elbow into the creature's gut and followed it up by locking his hands together on the back of the demon's neck and throwing a few knees into what he hoped was its ribs. The dog-demon thing howled in pain.
Pleased, James launched one last elbow at the creature's head. It moved at the last moment and James caught the demon's horn. "AH DAMMIT!" James yelled. He inspected his elbow to find that it was bleeding badly. "Fuck, that hurt..." He looked up to see his foe on the ground missing a horn. It turned to ash and vanished.
Alright James thought to himself. But this victory was short-lived. The other three foes that James had forgotten about quickly swarmed him to avenge the loss of their fallen ally. Two of them pinned him to the ground while the other wailed on him. The creature's knuckles felt like stones against his face and torso. James's vision was starting to blur and his he felt like he was watching the fight, if you could call it a fight, from somewhere else. He could no longer feel the demon beating him to death.
Just as James was passing out, he saw his enemy cough something up. James could not make out what it was but, whatever it was, it caught on fire. The thing stood up and stepped back a few feet. It reared back the fireball and...
[HEADING=2]"Creatures of Yore, join my side!"[/HEADING]
As James finally lost consciousness, the last thing he saw was a man in a white suit take the demon to the ground.
The white ranger gripped the dagger at his waist and ripped it from its sheath. It was curved and made to resemble a feather.
He still had the demon pinned to the ground. Without hesitation or mercy, he plunged the dagger through the creature's chest. It turned to ash under him. The hero stood and turned to face the two remaining demons that appeared to be having a hard time understanding what was happening.
The ranger charged the two and slashed at one catching it in the shoulder. The wounded dog-thing roared in pain. The man stabbed the other demon a few times in the stomach and chest before hacking at its face. It turned to ash. The last foe was lying on the ground clutching at its arm. There was a rather large gash in its right shoulder.
The ranger knelt down next to the creature and looked into its dark, heartless eyes...and plunged the dagger through its throat...
The girl he just helped stood slack jawed and staring at the whirling maelstrom of fighting bodies nearby, she had managed to fight off that many of these things on her lonesome, she should be able to help the others.
"Well, are you going to stand there or are you going to come and help?" Ethan shouted, grabbing her by the hand to pull her out of her reverie, and with him as he ran towards the crowd.
