Ahh, of course. The idiot friends. Gotta love 'em.
But they will think she is boring! :(
Heh, no offense matey, but I'm old enough to say that if someone's peers/friends think they're boring for not drinking, those peers/friends can fuck right off. I'm far more interested in my health and (if i was a woman, especially a pregnant one) even more interested in the health of my child over what my so-called friends think. Usually those type of "friends" are called toxic, because they're bloody bad for you.
Ok maybe I needed sarcasm quotes >_> also she says that in the article...... assumed you read it.

...Well, another stupid ***** being stupid. Not much else to say besides she's a horrible person who will probably have the government pay her, while the baby is taken away to live a life as this kid...

I paid $32.67 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17 inch Toshiba laptop for $94.83 being delivered to our house tomorrow by FedEX. I will never again pay expensive retail prices at stores. I even sold a 46 inch HDTV to my boss for $650 and it only cost me $52.78 to get. Here is the website we using to get all this stuff, GetCent.com

It's like that episode of Family Guy, where Lois said she tried to abort her kid with drugs and booze, but she quit partway.

That's how Chris was born.

I just... I just don't think it's right to let that baby be born in a world where the mother is a negligent alcoholic, and if taken away, would probably wind up in an orphanage or foster home longer/more often than it could stand. Either that, or it has some birth defects, most likely fetal alcohol syndrome. Probably a host of other possibilities. The chances of this baby living out a life that is both personally fulfilling and universally productive are slim to the chance of none.

In this situation, I'm sorry, I believe the government should have the right to abort this baby. I've always been an advocate of the rights of the child over that of the parent, and in this case, I still hold it. I know there's the "slippery slope" argument of when government loses power, but... this is something I feel is something to let them take control over.

If this woman won't do it herself, that is. I'd really like to see her take some form of personal responsibility (though... she doesn't immediately come across as the type). Just stopping when there's a bulge is about is good a method as pulling out (hey-o!).

its things like this that show at the age of sixteen everyone should be given a common sense test for parenthood. if they don't pass they should be banned from ever having children ¬_¬

I prey the child comes out ok because in my opinion that's practically murder. I'm guessing some individuals with governmental power may think the same way, I hope. Also the part about not wanting to stop living seemed very self centered, I'm sure the child doesn't want to cease to be living or worse brain dead. Not to mention if she didn't want the responsibility she should have I don't know made the dude wear a condom there like 99cents a piece or less and are easy enough to carry around.

It's like the smaller long term version of slowly drowning another person in alcohol 3 days a week and saying no I have the rites to do this.

She should just be shot in the face and be done with it. Baby is probably already suffered the incoming ill fate, so it'll be a double win.

Poor kid doesn't have to be born retarded and mother gets shot in the face. Win/Win.

I'd almost wager money that this chick's from Liverpool.

But isn't that the way it tends to be with teen pregnancy? You get knocked up, the government gives you money and a place to live without any real effort on your part. I've seen this a million times. She obviously doesn't seem to want the kid. For the kid's sake I hope she doesn't have it. It's just a sad story all around.
What indication is there that this person is from Liverpool? Bigot.

Personally, I believe that you should not be drinking alcohol while pregnant at all, given how much damage you can cause to a child in development. What irks me more than her doing it is her reason - she doesn't want to be considered "boring" to her friends. Abort the child. It will either not survive, or have serious problems or the rest of its life.

If it's born, it should be taken from her because she has clearly shown that she can not be trusted with her (unborn) child. Also, since she's a teenager who loves going drinking, she probably doesn't have the income to support a child.

I'd say social services needs to let her know that drinking that much while pregnant is NOT OK, and that she has probably caused irreparable damage to her child by drinking, but she clearly does not care, so what's the point.

huh, i find it interesting it's called "units", even though it is a type of unit itself, and obviously defined differently country to country...

but anyways besides that, wow this chick just needs to have an abortion already, dumb ****, someone needs to step in and do something before a very unfortunate child is brought into this world with no one responsible ready to care for it.

off topic: i came in here ready for this to be an american based story,as most bad stories that are brought up on the escapist are, and ready to see all the fun U.S. bashing that gets tossed around, to my delight it's not..

Well, it is her body, I suppose you can't really force her to do anything. I think she should at least get an abortion, but it's not really my say. She's young and careless, what do you really expect?

"she pretends she has morning sickness when she is so hungover she is sick."

That's just despicable, for lack of a better word. She obviously has no idea what kind of damage this can do to her child.

And she's worried that her friends will find her "boring" if she doesn't go out clubbing. Lady, the way you're handling things, you'll have MUCH bigger problems than people thinking you're boring. In more ways than one too.

Came across this in the Metro on the way to work. Pretty disgusting to be honest.

Where do you stand on this issue Escapists?

Should her baby be taken away from her when/if it's born?

Should she have an abortion?

Should services step in now instead of later?

Should she be left be, seeing as it's her body? (Just to clarify, this one isn't my opinion on the matter)

EDIT: Changed title to indicate alcohol, seeing as some people are getting confused.

EDIT2: Stop ragging on the Daily Mail source guys, it's the first one I grabbed from google - It's in other papers too.

Because people's Google-fu is weak, i'll leave this here... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unit_of_alcohol
It's not her body. Her body will be fine. It's the babies body. I think she should be forced to abort. If she's been doing this for even a week or two it's probably already got more birth defects than a NYC infant ICU. Also, she should be straight up executed for this. It's one of the most horrible things a person can do, right up there with rape and mass-murder.

To anyone out there saying that she can do this if she wants: you deserve worse punishment than she does.

Her actions -100 faith in humanity. You're actions: -1000 faith in humanity each.

Well, let's think logically. Does anyone need to intervene? What would be saved? Genetically speaking, does anyone think the baby born from someone of such troglodytically retarded intelligence would have much potential to begin with?
