I love how the OP acts like they're anti-stereotype by acting shocked that gamers are looked at as unattractive while lumping all CoD players into the group of being all unattractive.

Bravo.

Never heard that stereotype before. The stereotype I heard most often as a teenager was that video gamers have poor social skills. Which is an unattractive quality.

I guess there is a point here that people who do have poor social skills are more likely to to stay indoors doing solitary activities than go out, get involved in sport, etc. Even online gaming doesn't require talking to people in person.

But video gaming is so mainstream now that the majority of people do it because it's fun, not because they'e too much of a recluse to cope with real-life social interactions.

Are there fat, unactractive nerds? Sure.
Are all nerds ungly? Definitely not, check out some of the pictures from the Expo.

I won't comment on my own level of attractiveness, but my local nerd troop is at least average, I'm sure...
Yay men in suits :D I love men in suits!

On-topic: Most of my gaming friends are pretty.

What's with the generally accepted idea that only "unattractive" people play videogames? I mean sure, the ones you see most often in the media aren't exactly in the best of shape, and those that are play things like CoD exclusively, but come on.

Help a wee sociopath out. What's up with this.

AKA I went my entire middle to high school (After moving to another state, thereby leaving my gamer buddies behind) life never being able to play games with others because no one believed I played videogames at all, so I fell into the great deep void that are MMORPGs. And now I cry myself to sleep at night.
You must know that only the most hideous people on the planet play video games. The good looking people have better things to do

Of the gamers I've known IRL, I wouldn't say there was anyone particularly hideous or overly corpulent (although there is at least one that stands out in my memory as being rather bad in the looks/shape/punctuality/hygiene department) and most seem to be perfectly fine at socializing and whatnot. If anything I think I've consistently been the most maladjusted person in any circle of friends I've ever been in. XD Perhaps it's a different story in the US as from what I hear people tend to be a lot heavier in general and I imagine things are a bit more cliquey in their adolescence.

Well, personally, I met a good number of attractive people (male and female) who play video games. Be it mobile games, PC games or console games.
So if I were to meet someone who is attractive and they tell me that they play video games, I don't go: "OH! YOU PLAY VIDEO GAMES!? *shock horror*". Instead, I go: "So, what games do you play?"

Besides my own opinion, there is a reason(be it good or bad) why that stereotype exist:
When people play games(especially if said game is a PC game or a Console game), they are facing an object, rather than a human. So, as nobody is judging them on how they look (rather, how they play), they can be in the nude and no one will judge them (except for maybe the gamers on XBOX Live who call them 'fags').
And more so, gaming is a rather lazy hobby (let's be honest here: most us are sitting down while playing; that isn't very healthy in the least.) So people tend to pack on some weight.

Well, I play video games quite a lot (in fact, I'm having a LAN-party at work later tonight).

Also, I am super hot.

But I generally think this misconception is part of the past, seeing how many people (including girls) are "gamers" nowadays.

Well, my fiance and I are gamers, and while I won't speak of myself, he looks like a flipping model. He's gotten offers to join agencies and everything, and he plays games constantly...and never gains a pound. XD

Stereotypes are stereotypes, simply put. Best to know they don't carry any weight and move on.

I have been told by quite a few Girls (and Guys for some reason) that I am very good looking.

I don't generally play shooters like Call of Duty, I'm more of an MMO, RPG, Simulator, Stealth gamer who is pretty bad at consoles. According to the stereotype I should be fat and alone, but instead I'm underweight and married.

This stereotype is dead and needs to go away I have friends on facebook who are gamers and hot, but I'm not going to post their pictures without permission.

however how you dress/groom/present yourself can go quite a long way, and I guess the stereotype with nerds in they dont put that much effort into their appearance...or have little fashion sense (more the former) which in a way makes sense (certainty in my case)
I will admit I had a different look before my future wife got a hold of me so relationships definitely help. Not saying gamers can't get laid, just saying their priorities might be raiding instead of looking for girls.

Well hey now, I'm one sexy creature and I'm a gamer.

Heh, ok, so in all seriousness I'm average at best and I know some rather attractive people who game. Essentially, I'm in agreement with those who said it's a seriously flawed stereotype.

I am good looking, my pic is on my profile. And I can pick up birds so I'd say the stereotype is dead.

Just because you're not unattractive doesn't mean you can't still look like a total nerd.

There's still the fat, hairy gamers, but then there's fat, hairy eveything's in this world.

Most nerds have poor self-esteem. Having poor self-esteem generally lends to lack of self-presentation, as well as overall poor self-value. That is very unattractive.

Most nerds have poor self-esteem because people think nerds are unattractive. So nerds are unattractive because people tell them nerds are unattractive.
I guess that could be a part of it.

Honestly, when I was young, it seemed true. I was in a particularly bad school, so most things were. Attractive people hated unnattractive people. Cool people hate nerds. So the cliche became fact.

Now? I don't know what to believe. Honestly, I had grown afraid of "attractive people", so when more of them started appearing in game shops, I had to start going when it was quieter. Such was my fear. I could feel them looking at me, and it didn't feel good.

I got used to it. Good thing too, out of my friends, I'd say I'm the only one who doesn't look so good. People do tell me I do look good, or at least not as bad as I say, but I just don't know. Just can't bring myself to believe that. Some people still look at me funny.

Bottom line, is that even if it was ever true, it certainly ain't now.

Ofcourse gamers can be pretty.

They generally don't have nice asses though =(
I object. Mine is pretty darn nice. Whatever "you could bounce a quarter off of it" means, which I assume is good. Also the grabbing.
