Prey; A character driven RP

"Stop!"

The cry echoes through the empty alley as a person in a hoodie jumps from a fire escape. He lands in a mess on the street. Two men in plain-black clothing appear above, and the young man below sprints away. The two climb down as fast as possible, and run after him. The busy morning crowd parts for the uncoming people. The young man quickly crosses the street, and looks back gleefully as the two others are held up by the colonne of vehicles passing.

He quickly slips into another alley, and runs for several more blocks before stopping. His panting can be clearly heard in the silence between the buildings. He looks around for his chasers. He starts as one of them appears at the end of the alley. He starts running again, onto the streets. A cab narrowly avoids a crash as the young man stops on the streets. He started what would be a colourful string of swears.

If the street wasn't destroyed by an explosion.

Now in crappy MS Paint-o-vision!
(All I had to work with. Give me a break.)

G'day folks! Samuel here again, back after a long hiatus. I doubt anyone missed me. Anyway, after thinking it over I'm willing to try again, with something I haven't tried before. This story hasn't yet been written. I hava only a concept, and the story will be written, of course withing the RP, but the starting story will be taken from your backstory.

Concept

Among the masses of people walking the street everyday, there appear only normal people with the slight excentric here and there. The truth is that there are special people everywhere. Magicians, deities, faeries, shapeshifters, 'mutants' and whatever you can name. Even a few that you can't. Normally they garner nothing but an odd look as they go about their daily buisness. But these days something is hunting them, often paired with dangerous endings. The community is scared, more so than usual. And paranoia leads to fear.

So that's about it. You give me a sheet with whatever character you want to have. Type doesn't matter. Half-god, Superhero, Shapeshifter, Magician, whatever you want. I'll give you a few tips to keep the powers in respectable boundries. I also require a pretty meaty backstory, so I can incorperate that into the main plot. Also any notes you wanna give me, PM them so I can take heed of 'em.

There are a few rules though.

All characters need to be original content, so nothing from shows or series. For example, you can't use the guy from The Last Airbender, but you could use an elemental as character.

Although every character will be awesome to a certain degree, I'd discourage trenchcoating or anything of that manner. Emotional problems are pretty swell, to a certain degree. Don't overdo it.

People will have their own little stories going on here, and I'd ask all the players to go along with them. Don't spoil the other players intentions.

Also, most importantly, have fuh eh?

Characters:

<spoiler=SamuelT>Name: Gabriel De Vink

Age: Twenty three

Apperance: Gabriel still looks young for his age, with little to no facial hair and a few spots here and there, which combined with his glasses give only more weight to his slightly nerdy apperance. He has a pretty pale skin, from sitting inside so much, and half-long hair that just peeks from under his permanent Hancock beanie. His attire mainly consists of the samey looking jeans, hoodies and All Stars that are all a little too big for him, giving him a sloppy apperance. He is pretty tall, standing at 6'5, but still thin for his height.

Bio: Gabriel is a perfect example of a fallen star. Groomed for perfection, he has both a batchelor and masters degree in Quantum Science, both gathering dust on the walls. Now he lives in a rather small flat and living on the meager wages of his roommates and his odd job as freelance handyman - working through a middle person called Rebecca - and is not easily motivated. The reason for this fall was partly because of the usual; not being able to preform through the pressure of loved ones, having trouble with social interactions and just being plain lazy.

The main reason is that Gabriel discovered something when he stepped outside of the sheltered walls of his parental home. He is a magician. Through handmovements he can bend the energy that flows around everyone and everything. He learned from this power by accident, suddenly making his hands glow on a cold winter night. He hid it under his arms, and burnt himself pretty bad; the marks are still visible to this day. He learned to master his 'power' through teaching of the etheral: voices that instructed him into certain parts of magic. His life was entirely dedicated to finding out how to become more powerful.

This wrecked havoc with his social and educational life though. When he discovered, at nineteen, he was just starting university. Having left all his friends at home, he knew very few people in this new city. But because of this discovery he never left his home, never went to any parties, very few people spoke to him and he quickly gained the title of 'introverted' or 'creepy guy.' The only people he spoke to were his roommates, Raoul and Femke, who were seeing each other and didn't really try to get Gabriel out of his shell. Because of that he doesn't really care for people, not hate but not love either. Through his power he knows that there are other 'different' people, and it's pretty hard not to notice when being able to feel the difference.

Abilities: As stated earlier, Gabriel is a magician, being able to bend energies via hand movements and certain incantations. He can make things appear like flames, arcs of electricity, an average force to push things, limited telekinesis and all that. Also he is, or he figures at least, something of a conduit for the deceased. Whenever he 'calls' upon them a entity starts whispering and speaking to him, always with a different personality. He can ask them something and they will answer if they can. This process is always pretty draining and is something he'd rather not do.

Name: Lily Noble

Age: 23

Race: Human

Appearance: Slightly taller than average, with long brown hair and Large, innocent looking eyes. Lily usually prefers to wear a pair of comfortable, dark blue jeans and a black or navy blue top, be it a jacket, hoodie or cardigan. She wears a pair of red and black checked Converse Hi-Tops but no socks.

History: Born into a fairly well-off family in a nice area, she was raised to behave well, say please and thank you, and to speak when spoken to. Being an extremely bright child, she quickly grew bored of her existence during her school years and began to rebel. Not openly and outwardly, but at school she got involved with those commonly labelled "the wrong crowd" she worked her way up the feeble excuse of an unofficial hierarchy they had, by lying, cheating and backstabbing allies and enemies alike, no-one was a friend, they were all just pawns to be played how she wished. While this all went on, the teachers knew nothing of her escapades, and only knew her reputation as a hard working and diligent student.

Her parents noticed her become distant, and tried to regain the closeness they once shared by paying for whatever she wanted, including self-defense classes, which she slowly picked up, relishing the challenge of something she had difficulty with. After passing her exams with flying colours, she began her further education, though she once again, quickly grew bored, but this time, instead of subverting the system, she left. She joined a small, local gang, but moved on from them by selling them out to a local branch of the mob they had crossed, and joined their ranks, once again working her way up the ladder through betrayal and deceit, though more subtley this time around, so she wouldn't make enemies that would be a threat when she got to the top.

Her ability manifested itself while she was tasked with pulling a burglary in an upmarket area of town. Unbeknownst to herself or her informants, the residents had guests at the time the burglary was scheduled to take place. Though Lily entered residence undetected, as she made her way towards the living room, she heard voices coming from the lavishly furnished dining room. Panicking a the situation, she was heard and the occupants and guests rushed out into the hallway to find her flattenned against the wall, hoping she wouldn't be seen. The owner of the house looked at her, and took a step forward, his right arm outsretched with a hand pointing at her, about to say something. Before Lily knew what was happenning, the man, hs wife and two guests were thrown back down the hall, past the doorway to the dining room and slamming against the front door. All four died on impact. Lily escaped and found out a few days later that she had killed an important member of the council, is wife and two dinner guests of no importance. The police were never able to find and traces of the killers, nor the method they used to launch the dinner party twenty feet through the air.
She spent the next several months experimenting with and refining her ability, using it on jobs without giving anything away, just letting herself ahead a little and pushing the boundaries of what she could do.

Personality: While she appears sweet and innocent from the exterior, this is just a ruse pefected over many years of deception and trickery, Lily is cunning and devious, she never stops thinking of ways to give herself the edge over another person.
Her usual ease with working people the way she wants them to have left her with a slightly aloof demeanour, meaning those who are less easily swayed by her silver-tongued rhetoric may find her conceited and demanding, though she usually buys that kind of person off with money or other commodities.

Equipment/Abilities: Lily has the power of telekinesis. For those that don't know, telekinesis is the ability to move objects with your mind. Lily's telekinesis is limited by the distance, difficulty and mass of the object she is moving. She could easily send bricks raining down on someone's head from the her end of a road, but lifting a truck would take a lot of effort if she were much more than a few meters away.
While not an actual power, her skills for manipulating people are truly notable. Lily can play most people like a piano, lies falling from her tongue and warping people's minds, sowing doubt and mistrust where needed, and inspiring dedication and loyalty to those she wishes to recruit to her cause. This makes Lily a very dangerous opponent to have if sides are being chosen.
She carries a set of lockpicks in a belt around her stomach, along with pepper spray, a switchblade and for absolute emergencies, a small, concealable pistol.

Name: Rezetta Morwood (AKA, Zetta)
Age: 23
Race: Half-demon, half-human
Classification: Illusionist
Appearance: Rezetta is a tall woman with long, dark red hair she usually keeps in a bun. Her eyes are a striking white, though she usually wears blue contacts. Her teeth are all very slightly pointed and her nails are kept long and sharp, much like claws. She wears a lot of dark clothes; usually long-sleeved shirts, jeans, gloves, and boots.
Abilities: Being a half-demon, Rezetta has considerable magical prowess. She can weave illusions of any sort "tied" to a person's mind (so that only they can see it), or she can create something visible to anyone. By staring into a person's eyes, Zetta can--and usually does--see a person's fear and use that to weave something terrifying around them.
Bio: Rezetta was born of a human woman and a demon, who stayed only long enough to conceive a child. Rezetta's mother died giving birth to her, leaving her to be raised by her mother's brother Maurice. Maurice didn't quite hate the half-demon Rezetta, but he certainly feared her and he let her know it constantly.

Zetta's illusion powers bloomed once she hit her twelfth birthday, when she unwittingly made the image of a dog run around the house. Zetta, unaware that she was doing it, became frightened and, as such, more crazy illusions popped up around her. Maurice, not quite sure what was happening and just becoming more and more terrified of the girl, tried getting her to stop by beating her. Rezetta got away and ran off, never going back to her uncle again.

After living on the streets for one year, Rezetta somehow got herself entangled in a group of drug traffickers who all happened to be part demon like herself. Several of them happened to have powers as well and thus helped her to better harness hers. The group was busted two years later, with several of the members dying in the resulting firefight. Rezetta managed to use her powers to help herself escape, along with two other members of the group. They split up during their escape and Zetta never saw them again.

Zetta made a life for herself by robbing others, something her powers made her good at. She managed to set up a sort of business with those who wanted things somebody else had. She kept this up until she turned 19, when some people angry about her business managed to find her and tried to kill her. She escaped once again with her powers and managed to find a normal delivery job. Since then, she's kept a low-key profile and hasn't yet had too much more trouble.
<quote=JoJoDeathunter>
Name: Maya Li
Age: 7
Location: Jinan City, Shandong, China
Race: Human (Chinese)

Appearance: Typical East Asian features, long dark hair, average height for her age, slightly thin. At the beginning of the story also dirty and dressed in a smudgy grey dress due to situation (explained in bios).

Personality: Shy to the point that she hasn't spoken to anyone since her mother disappeared a couple of months before, naturally afraid of those in authority. Otherwise a typical child's personality: somewhat self-centered and simplistic, but does care for others and deep down wishes she had company again.

Bios: Maya Li was born several years ago to a single woman living in a poor neighbourhood of an eastern Chinese city. She has never known who her father is. Rather than being sent to school, her mother home-taught her to read simple Chinese symbols and to speak (but not read) basic English. As she grew up, Maya had contact with virtually no-one other than her mother, who instilled in her a phobia of strangers and those in authority. Just a few weeks after she turned seven, she woke up one morning to find her mother simply wasn?t there. For several days she waited in the house, living off the remaining food, before she finally left for the streets. For the last couple of months before the story Maya has lived on the streets; stealing food from wherever she can find it. It was only then that she learned she has a power of sorts, she can avoid being noticed and can hide in virtually plain sight. This has allowed her to live on the streets while avoiding the authorities which she fears so much, though she doesn't know why this is. She has no other powers though and as would be expected has no fighting or weapon skills either.

Situation: At the beginning of the story she still lives in Jinan, however something may be about to happen that will cause her to leave her hometown forever... (GM can decide what happens if necessary for storyline to work!)

Name: Alec Bernsworth

Age: 30

Race: Human

Bio: Alec had grown up in America. His family origins however, are still unclear, not who they were, or what they did for living. Alec's parents had died from a strange unknown disease when he was 10. After their deaths, he had been put in the care of his parents' friends. However, even though Maria and James (the people taking care of him) had been super nice to him, something wasn't right. Every time that he was alone, he saw a man. He appeared to be a classy man, with a tuxedo and top hat. He always explained to him that it was a good idea for him to be a fortune teller. Every time the man suggested this, he became transparent, and eventually completely disappeared. It was only at the age of 11, did Alec realize what he was seeing. He had looked up the history of the hotel that his parent's friends were living and working at, and found out that this was the first owner of the hotel! The hotel was first created in the early 1900's, so the owner could not still be around, yet he was! The original hotel had a separate room for the fortune tellers that worked there. One day , the fortune tellers had been found dead, all in the same room, all killed in the same way (all had their necks snapped). Alec began worrying that the man is trying to get him killed too, but then looked at it another way...HE WAS TALKING TO THE DEAD! Alec began studying archeology when he was 18, and moved out of the hotel at the age of 24 to start his career. He had discovered tons of forgotten Native American burial grounds, valuable fossils, and all sorts of rare finds with the help of his powers which he learned to harness during his studies. After earning enough money to take a break from his work for a few months, he began traveling and eventually decided to stay a while in a fine city in China called Jinan. A few people there had a magical curse, gift, or mutation. He soon decided to move there permanently since so many strange things happen here, and there has to be some weird history to go with it. However he had heard from his friends that it wasn't a good idea to visit this city because of some sort of hunt...

Appearance: Skinny man, usually wears a gray suit and fedora, usually wears shades to cover up his bloodshot eyes (they come from days of sleepless nights), he has a mullet, and carries a large fold-able shovel in his backpack.
Personality: Alec usually keeps a close eye on friends to make the most of their time with him. He does this because he has a paranoia that something might happen with them, and then they'll be gone forever. He's really generous and kind, he likes to work out (it takes a lot of energy to be a one-man archeology crew ((digging, traveling, carrying finds to the lab))). On his free time, Alec practices his special power to talk to his parents, and the rest of it to go drinking (as seeing dead people on a regular basis can really screw you up).

<quote=TheDoctor445>
[spoiler=A Rather Spectacular Character Sheet: Dr. Jared Strauss/TheDoctor455
]
Name: Dr. Jared Strauss

Age: 44

Appearance: Funnily enough, he is often mistaken for the famous TV character, Dr. House. Dr. Strauss is about the same height, same build, he even has to use a cane to support himself as he moves around. The key differences are that he has vibrant green eyes, white hair, self-inflicted scars on his face and legs, and instead of a gray tweed suit, Dr. Strauss most often wears (everywhere he goes, at all times) a white lab-coat, a minimum of two layers of latex, gloves, a surgical mask, brown slacks, and a t-shirt with a sarcastic comment on it. On the whole, he is pretty ugly.

BIO: Dr. Strauss was born and raised in London, England. He attended Oxford, and studied to become a physician. He married his university sweetheart, Mary Sutherland. Together they had three daughters, Emily (age 9), Amelia (age 5), and Sunny (age 2). For ten years, Dr. Strauss led a happy life with his family, and... after his 40th birthday, his powers emerged. To this day, Strauss still isn't entirely certain what his family died of, all he knows is that he is to blame for their deaths.
Ever since then, Dr. Strauss has refused to treat another patient. He will however, teach what he knows to others. So, he's been roaming from city to city, giving guest lectures at teaching hospitals around the world. Then, he read a newspaper article about some crackpot's theories about the recent boom of people with unique and impossible abilities. The physician in Dr. Strauss dismissed the theories as bullshit, but the hopeless, ruined man in him found some hope in those theories. Everything about the speed with which these abilities popped up to their symptoms and the abilities themselves sounded like an epidemic to him... and if that were the case, if he could study others with abilities, he might be able to find a cure and free himself from this curse, and try to live a normal life again. For this chance, Dr. Strauss is willing to do almost anything.

To that end, Dr. Strauss has set up a web-page with his contact information so that he can help them deal with their new powers, and through any associated traumas. In exchange, all he asks are some DNA samples for his research. He has made some progress in his studies, but not enough for his taste. As a result, he has started to get addicted to several powerful narcotics (he usually takes them in high doses at the same time).

He knows that he shouldn't be taking narcotics, especially if he hopes to complete his research, but he just needs something to keep him going at times. He has no social life... he sees it as too great a risk ever since his powers emerged. Before his family died, he used to love going to Arcades with his daughters and playing "House of the Dead" or Air-Hockey with them. He loved to do almost anything as long as his family was with him. But now that they're dead, the only activity he can derive any enjoyment from is walking through public parks at night, and flying a kite. That's what he and his wife did on their first date... and its all he can do to keep her memory alive.

Supernatural Template: Mutation. Dr. Strauss doesn't know the exact cause of his mutation... nothing in his family history explains his abilities in any way... other than the fact that many of his ancestors were also Doctors. He isn't entirely sure what the source of his mutation is, or even if it is an actual mutation, but for now... its the best explanation Dr. Strauss has for his abilities.

Abilities: Dr. Strauss is the logical extreme of a Plague-bearer. He carries every known disease known to humanity in his blood (although the worst one is unknown). This renders him immune to any illness and extremely resilient to chemical influence (hence why he has to take large doses of various narcotics to get any effect from them at all), but it also means he can spread any of these diseases at the slightest skin-to-skin contact. What's worse is that the longer Dr. Strauss lives, the more the viruses mutate and become even more potent. This would be the perfect power for a serial killer; fortunately though, Dr Strauss isn't one yet (although his chronic depression, if left unchecked, could lead to a deliberate massacre). Dr. Strauss has no direct control over this ability whatsoever. However, which disease he spreads through physical contact varies depending on his emotional state. On the rare occasions that he is happy, he spreads Malaria, when he is depressed (which is often) he spreads an accelerated form of Dysentery, when he is sexually aroused he spreads accelerated variations of every known STD, when he is scared shitless he spreads an accelerated Parkinson's Disease, when he is extremely angry he spreads a combination of Leprosy and an unknown disease that sort of works as a biological napalm (my idea for how it works is that it melts the subject from the inside out while the Lepracy rots the exterior portions of the body), and at all other times (when his emotions are generally neutral) he spreads all of the relatively harmless diseases like Colds, Flus, and Strep Throats. However, in extremely rare cases, when he is completely devoid of emotion, he spreads every single disease he has at the same time. Again... this is only if he manages to make skin-to-skin contact.

What ho, Other Sam? I've heard tell of your works from around the site, but I don't believe you and I have ever actually played together; I would rather love to remedy that, and quite frankly, this RP sounds like a spectacular opportunity to do so. Expect a sheet in a few minutes.

Name: Lelouch Frain
Age: 223 (Looks 14)
Appearance:
Type: Immortal mage
Personality: Life has taught Lelouch many a thing but mainly to trust nobody and to hate everyone. He is cold, closed, intelligent and nearing madness. Each day is a step closer to becoming fully mad with hate.
Bio: Lelouch was born as a mage a trait in his rich noble English family. He was taught by his parents how to control and use his magic. He began experimenting with it, something his parents forbid him to do, the effect were catastrophic. It destroyed his entire town in a instant by a dark shadow that killed anything that fell under it. Lelouch woke up a few hours later to find the damage he had caused with his incompetence, it destroyed him and made him attempt to kill himself. He stabbed himself with his fathers sword but found himself unable to die. He then became a lone watcher, watching humankind as it grew and grew. It disgusted him, how they selfishly acted and killed each other. He became resentful of them avoiding them as much as he could. Then the first world war came, he hid and watched. Becoming even more resentful, nearing hate. But what really changed him was the second world war, he was in Germany during the rise of Hitler and watched people worse then he had ever seen before. His then resentment turned into hate. Hate that he had never felt before. He went on a killing spree against SS members, then went back into hiding. When he saw the chance he decided to attack Hitler himself, he used magic he had forbidden himself to use and made him shoot himself. Content with what he had done he left Germany to America where he became a observer again. Hate building up inside him like a wall.
Hope it's good.

Name: Jay Windross

Classification: Hanged Man

Armaments: Two spears, with which he is proficient; they can extend and retract, with the largest setting being roughly five feet, and the smallest but one, so Jay wears them through his belt at this size most of the time.

General Attributes: Like all Hanged Men, Jay has a marking on his body signifying his Cause of Death; in his case, it's a small hole, running directly through his left lung. Also like all Hanged Men, Jay can draw power from this; as it was his lung that led to his demise, he has slight mastery over the winds, and is capable of pushing and pulling things with his power, as well as performing "double-jumps" and adding strength to his punches by pushing them from behind. In addition to this, he has the standard Hanged Man abilities; lack of pain receptors, hollow bones and zero blood in his body leading to increased agility, and heightened thinking-speed due to the energies powering his brain and body.

A Brief History: An accident which occurred a few years ago, involving a meteor, a lightning bolt and a nuclear meltdown, drastically altered the genetics of the populace of a small town. The government quickly swooped down, classified the victims of this occurrence into twenty-five categories; As Jay's subspecies was the 12th one discovered, and the scientists had decided, rather geekily, to go with a tarot theme, he and the rest of the people in his category were referred to as Hanged Men. Being, for the most part, harmless, Jay and the majority of the rest of the Hanged Men were released, with only a select few of the most dangerous ones being kept behind for analysis. Upon returning to the world, Jay got on with his life, trying his hand at falling in with the wrong crowd but never really getting into it, and eventually simply bucking up and finishing his studies. Recently, an old friend of his from his ne'er-do-well days took up trying to kill him as a hobby, so he's been forced to take to carrying weapons around; this isn't a bad idea anyway, since, after the Accident, Jay noticed that a number of other "unusual beings" seemed to be making themselves apparent to him, and not all of them were terribly friendly.

Like most Hanged Men, Jay looks basically like a regular human, though with far paler skin than most and a hole in his chest which most would miss. He looks roughly 16, though is technically around about 27, since the Accident stopped him from aging physically.
Jay is a "nice lad". He's friendly, helps old ladies across the road, never draws his weapons except in self-defence and always says "sorry" when he ends up running someone through.

If there's a spot still open, I'd love to reserve a place and will work on a sheet presently, though I am going to be away over the weekend I'm afraid, so if you start while I'm gone and you don't want an extra character getting shoe-horned in a few days late, then it's perfectly OK to let me go and I won't harbor any hard feelings.
Oh, and Samuel, I promise not to accidentally break this one if I can help it. I didn't mean to with Lampshade, but once again, I'm sorry.
UPDATE: Actually, I wouldn't mind if you rejected me out of hand, I know a first impression can sour a relationship, you'd be entitled to in my opinion, though I'd rather you didn't.

Can I please note that I don't want Lily to fall into a Mary Sue role. I would expect at least one or two characters to take vehement opposition to her for some reason or another.

S'okay. I still need to prepare with backstories and all that, so it might take a while for this to actually get off the ground.

And that Lampshade thing wasn't really your fault. Made without heart, as a last ditch effort to have a good time before peeping out. No worries. :p

Can I use the main character of the Shift series of flash games? if so, reserve, if not, still reserve.
Uh...

There are a few rules though.

All characters need to be original content, so nothing from shows or series. For example, you can't use the guy from The Last Airbender, but you could use an elemental as character.
Also, most importantly, have fuh eh?
Does that answer your question?
