Its 16-20 hours long. that quite long for FPS games.
this is what FPS genre need. no more tack on linear and scripted 3 hour SP and pointless MP.
Oh it definitely feels like BioShock once you get rolling but the intro reminded me of Mirror's Edge (the cold, pearly city skyline, the stark contrast of primary colors, the slick, clinical futurism, etc).Silentpony said:Spooky spook world with old wooded rooms and a wrench. I dunno, seemed Bioshocky to me.Johnny Novgorod said:People are saying BioShock, I thought Mirror's Edge at first.
He got a machine gun in like 20 minutes.B-Cell said:at start you have nothing but meelee weapon then slowly you will get more.

What Arkane does better than Irrational Games ever did was design their powers and mechanics to foster player creativity. Just Youtube some Dishonored kill vids or StealthGamer's Dishonored vids. Are there any Bioshock vids near that creative and interesting? To me, Arkane is gameplay and mechanics focused and Irrational was narrative focused.Johnny Novgorod said:Oh it definitely feels like BioShock once you get rolling
System shock a linear? it has most deep and complex level design i have seen. this new Prey may not be system shock but if anything remotely close to that going to be win in my book.DeliveryGodNoah said:And I don't know about you, but all of my playtime in System Shock 2 was bland, narrow ship corridor after narrow ship corridor. Linear. As. Hell.
A bunch of narrow corridors with little deviation isn't complex level design. It's a maze. I've seen similar "level design" made by 11 year olds in minecraft. You'd have the same experience walking through a corn maze with a water pistol.B-Cell said:System shock a linear? it has most deep and complex level design i have seen. this new Prey may not be system shock but if anything remotely close to that going to be win in my book.DeliveryGodNoah said:And I don't know about you, but all of my playtime in System Shock 2 was bland, narrow ship corridor after narrow ship corridor. I dont think it will be messiah of FPS. that is save for System shock remake and 3. and only if Half life 3 exist.DeliveryGodNoah said:I'm not arguing that System Shock 2 wasn't a good game, but Bioshock was much more enjoyable and better designed. Neither game is perfect. And neither will Prey. It may turn out good. And that's awesome. But it won't be the messiah of first person shooters that you keep deluding yourself it to be.
K. Topic shift #3. Guess I'm done here. I'll make myself a bagel and consider this fubar.B-Cell said:I dont think it will be messiah of FPS. that is save for System shock remake and 3. and only if Half life 3 exist.DeliveryGodNoah said:I'm not arguing that System Shock 2 wasn't a good game, but Bioshock was much more enjoyable and better designed. as much as i hate bioshock. after playing infinite. bioshock 1 feel like system shock compare to that. Damn how much ken levine is fallen? same guy who made SS2 made infinite.
Playing devil's advocate, maybe it could be treated as a thematic rather than narrative sequel? Similar to how series like Final Fantasy, Fire Emblem, Quake, and even Call of Duty to an extent are connected more by theme and tropes rather than an overall narrative?Worgen said:It looks pretty neat, its got a pretty strong start. But it still annoys the hell out of me that its called 'Prey.' Why the fuck is it called Prey? I mean I'm sure they will have some reason like "mankind is the prey", but we already have a game called Prey and it was pretty good. This one has nothing to do with it.
But you get to whack stuff with a crowbar and shoot stuff. What could be more manly than that?Zhukov said:Also, game isn't manly enough.
I dunno, B-cell has more or less established his preferences to the world, so I could see Prey falling under them. Correct me if I'm wrong, but they could be summed up as:JUMBO PALACE said:I'm starting to think B-Cell might just be an Arkane employee trying to distribute hype about their game while maintaining B-Cell's... unique personality.
Ah yes, the most ubiquitous game genre out there needs a "messiah."B-Cell said:I dont think it will be messiah of FPS.
Every game is the messiah, until it's actually released.Hawki said:And didn't you say that Doom was the messiah or something?
Doom is current FPS king. im talking about future release.IceForce said:Every game is the messiah, until it's actually released.Hawki said:And didn't you say that Doom was the messiah or something?
Pre-release overhype, thy name is B-Cell.
I second this statement. Refuse to acknowledge this game.DOOM GUY said:I'm still pissed that they cancelled Prey 2 and turned the series into this thing.
this looks better. cancelled prey 2 was typical console shooter with regen health and cover system.Poetic Nova said:I second this statement. Refuse to acknowledge this game.DOOM GUY said:I'm still pissed that they cancelled Prey 2 and turned the series into this thing.
Graphics never matter, unless it is Crytek, and their games are shallow as fuck.B-Cell said:this looks better. cancelled prey 2 was typical console shooter with regen health and cover system.Poetic Nova said:I second this statement. This is again my issue with it. Prey one had some goofy stuff in it with you fighting aliens with Native American spirit powers but it was at least different from everything else on the market and it was also unexpectedly brutal with its violence without shoving it in your face all the time.Poetic Nova said:Graphics never matter, unless it is Crytek, and their games are shallow as fuck.B-Cell said:this looks better. cancelled prey 2 was typical console shooter with regen health and cover system.Poetic Nova said:I second this statement. This poor excuse of a "Prey" game just tries to ride on a name that has been stained by too much publisher meddling. Doesn't even bother connecting itself with the first one, which did new things. This one just seems boring, riding on mechanics from Dishonored, which was unbalanced to say the least.

The games don't actually have anything to do with one another. At all. They didn't cancel Prey 2 in order to make this. Prey 2 was cancelled on its own merits, or perceived lack thereof.Specter Von Baren said:snip
I'm intrigued but this will have to succeed on its own merit as it is sooo different looking in every way from the one I played on the 360. I recently rewatched on youtube: I hope it is out for the XB1. I may get it as, I forgot how awesome it was.Worgen said:It looks pretty neat, its got a pretty strong start. I totally agree games have gotten very homogeneous, but Prey is not at all an example of that. How many AAA games do we even get that are quality over quantity now? I see the similarities to Bioshock but even then we've gotten just 6 of these type of games (Bioshocks, Dishonoreds, and Prey) over the last 10 years. Compare that to the MMSs, current open world fad, fantasy RPGs, etc. There's a lot more than 6 of each one of those the last 10 years. There's more games with Batman's combat system. Arkane does develop games with a different approach than Irrational did with the Bioshocks where Arkane designs games in a much more open manner encouraging players to be creative in finding solutions while Irrational put narrative in the forefront. Thus, Prey will be scratching a different itch than Bioshock.Specter Von Baren said:It feels like we're going back to the state game were in before the crash, too many games that aren't different enough from each other.
