Thus, Prey will be scratching a different itch than Bioshock.

I truly do hope so.
I'd love for this game to carve out it's own identity but it's really got an uphill battle when almost every discussion about it includes how much it's like Bioshock/Dead Space/Dishonored/System Shock/Whatever and how much it's NOT like Prey 2.
Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with a game feeling like another to a degree, heck, the first Dead Space was kind of Bioshock-y a bit bit it does no good for a game's identity to be compared this hard to others.

Personally, I'm a little worried about the Dishonored similarities. I don't want to watch the whole video because I don't want to be spoiled at all but I watched bits and I can see the Dishonored fingerprints on it; that puts me off a little because I don't really love Dishonored all that much, despite me buying 1 and 2, I just never got the jive.

I'm getting this game one way or the other, I think it looks cool but out of all it's similarities, I just hope it doesn't feel like Dishonored.

The games don't actually have anything to do with one another. At all. They didn't cancel Prey 2 in order to make this. Prey 2 was cancelled on its own merits, or perceived lack thereof.

This new Prey in named that simply because the poeple in charge liked the name. Since they already owned the IP they were free to recycle the name.

Besides, they were already doing that with the cancelled Prey 2 which had absolutely nothing in common with the original Prey.

Well yeah, Prey 2 was cancelled around 3 or so years ago, and I don't think this has been in development that long, I'm just not a fan of them using the name... it feels like it's just for brand recognition, but then again, maybe not, I don't remember Prey being the most popular game. It's such a shame that it was cancelled too, because it was nearly finished.

They're free to do that, sure.

Was quite a different game with a different character, but it did actually take place in the same universe, you were even supposed to meet Tommy at some point.
