Ok so I bought the Prince Of Persia Trilogy for PS3 because I never played the games on PS2, suffice to say I never finished the first game and haven't played it in a while. I decided yesterday to replay the game and I've realised why I never finished it.

The combat is ass, I can hardly see anythign with the camera all over the place, whenever I try to counterattack nothing happens. And worst of all, I find myself stuck in an infinate death loop where everytime I die I rewind only to die again instantly.

What I want to know from people who've played the game is if there's a certain way to do the combat, any tips, techniques? Does the game get any easier as it goes on (I'm at the first fight with Farah by your side)? Or should I just skip this game and onto the next.

The combat is dick.
For enemies that aren't blue I think you can just do the "jump on them double slash" to knock them over. Then absorb that shit, yo.
For blue enemies, you pretty much have to learn how to counter drain at first, and counter attack later on. At a pretty frequent rate too.

Seriously dude? Seriously? I know the combat isn't the best but, damn. I let my nephew play through this game and he was flying through levels.

The game usually tells you how to fix whatever you're doing wrong. I'm just kind of baffaled someone finds this game hard.

You can do a move where you jump over an enemy and absorb the sand in one motion. Jump over an enemy followed by whatever the dagger button is on your system I think. For enemies that doesn't work on wall attacks are usually your best bet. I think it's jump towards a wall when standing next to it then press the attack button. That should knock them over to finish them off with the dagger.

i can't remember it's been years, but always try to use your environment when fighting enemies if your normal tactics aren't working, i remember there was a few cheap ways to absorb enemies but don't remember what it was.

still, walkthrough's a plenty on youtube/gamefaqs, look up stuff there?

In SoT, just about every mob could be taken down easily with Vault - Slash - Dagger Reave combo.
The only mob that wasn't effective on was the big hammer mob, but that was just so slow you could just slash it until it fell and then reaved it.

In WW, there was another combo that pretty much 1hKO'd most mobs, iirc it was grapple, steal weapon, decapitation.

I don't recall there being any such silver bullet move in TT.

The PoP Trilogy is completely pants. I am so dissapointed and annoyed I bought it. Apart from the flaws from gameplay flaws from the originals, they haven't fixed any of the glitches and the graphics do not live up to other HD collections.

I hate Ubisoft...

sorry, sorry, I should rephrase. The PoP 'HD' Trilogy is pants. The games are alright (feel a bit dated in my mind) but the way they converted them into HD...now that was a pile of poop.

The combat has always been the weakest part of Prince of Persia.

The platforming is where it's at. When Sands of Time came out, there wasn't really anything like it. Now those types of parkour games are all over the place, but when it came out, that was it.

Combat is basic but very functional in what it's got, the counters do work but the timing on that must be absurdly precise so use your evasion to get control over the battle instead, and yes this also means you need to move into a position to see things because the camera doesn't adjust to combat.

Rewind is not one of those hold your hand things that button press is not an automatic saving grace, you need to use it with precision
(now I can't speak for all versions but the original on PC was pin point controllable with rewind).

Otherwise if you only go for the combat then the second and third game are stepping it up for your needs.

Counterattacking is a bit finnicky to get the hang of at first, you need to press counter about a quarter-second before the strike hits your block. People having problems with it was common enough that they made it much easier in Warrior Within.

No, sorry. The combat is vagina.
I tried to replay it a while back to get my platinum, but got so fed up with it halfway through. Memories of the elevator part still haunt my memories.

*giggles* yeah i picked up on that, too...

... I never played Prince of Persia. But I get the same annoying ass-thing with with the SSX rewind thing on the xBox 360 game. Fall off a cliff, rewind, shoot straight off the cliff while clawing at the earth...
In the spirit of that string of quotes, I "fixed" the positioning of your hyphen.

The PoP trilogy is actually in my "Worthless Crap" category on Steam so I can keep it hidden, because it's borderline unplayable with a keyboard and mouse (no big surprise there) and never really worked properly for me with any controller I tried with it. The combat is extra crappy when not only does the camera not cooperate but neither does any input device you own. Heh. BG&E seemed less wonky even though it uses the same engine, and I still have my GC copy of that just in case...

Warrior Within improved on the combat immensely- it's actually pretty fun, most of the time. Completely threw the aesthetic and tone to the ground, of course, which is why a lot of people didn't like it so much.

Yeah, combat in the first game was pretty lacklustre, something which improved in the sequel. A few tips I can offer is to use the walls to your advantage, keep as nimble as possible and pick your fights wisely. Combat is not going to get easier, I'll tell you that. Also, keep your eyes out for holes in the wall. They lead to fountains that increase your life bar.

Trust me, stick with the game. Combat may not be its greatest strength, but the joy of the game comes from the freedom of the Prince's movement and the Godlike power to control time.

HAHAHA playing PoP for combat , HAHAHA .

Silly rabbit , kicks are for ribs.

...Ahem . Sorry about th...HAHAHA ... Okay no seriously now , the combat is pretty bad in the first game , but it's such a small part of the game that it shouldn't even matter . In the other two PoP games it gets better though .

This is the exact spot where I am at the moment. But then again I haven't played it in years either.

Warrior Within is the only game of the 3 I haven't finished. And that is because there is this annoying jumping pillar section that gets me every time. I just can't do it somehow :x.
I bet the next time I try them I do it flawlessly...

Still, these games <3.

Played the entire trilogy, replayed Sands of Time once too.The combat in that game never bothered me once I figured that every enemy could be killed with the wall jump in combat, except the hammer dudes, which you can vault over.
