This trailer doesn't look too bad, it might be one of the extremely few video game movies that don't completely suck-ass. Still, not getting my hopes up too far.

Well, Alfred (f*cking) Molina is in it.

That's gotta count for something.
That raises my hopes from "Cautious scepticism" to "cautious optimism".

I've seen this already, it's the fucking Scorpion King with less character and more generic storytelling (if that were possible). The only twist being the time rewinding gimmick, which looks like the only similarity this has kept for the game.

And this is from someone who quite likes Jake Gylatinous.

It seems to have that lass from Quantum of Solace in. I'll watch it then but only when it comes out on Sky!

They just rolled all the action sequenses into a montage and made it into a trailer. It'll be a mediocre Pirates of the caribbean/assassins creed ripoff.

I'm intrigued. Looks like a Pirates clone, but Pirates was good so that doesn't really mean anything.

One question though: Why is Gandhi trying to destroy time?

Jake Gyllenhaal as the Prince? What the fuck?
And what's with this whole "Dustin" thing as his name, or what ever it is...g'damn it!
Can't be just leave games alone? Uwe Boll (or however it's spelt) has done more than enough damage!!
Dastan? Daz?..
They should have just called him Dusty and got it over with.

Why didn't they keep the ACTUAL story- not throw in random temples and stuff!
Because it would make for a shitty movie. Its close enough to the ps2 original.

Where is everyone seeing Ghandi? Are we talking about Ben Kingsley?

Why is Ben Kingsley even in this film? He's been in terrible films since Thunderbirds. Oh well :(

oh god, I am so fucking embarrassed for watching that. Why did they have to follow the gameplay so stringently in creating this movie?

/facepalm

Looks alright, I don't have any expectations of it though. I don't think there's ever been a movie adaption of a game that wasn't terrible.

The only one I can think of was Street Fighter (the first one), just because it wasn't trying to be anything other than a big, dumb action movie, and didn't get hung up on plot when there was still Jean Claude ass-kicking potential.

On Topic:

That movie's going to be shit, we all know it's going to be shit, and in the off chance I'm wrong, wait a few days to see it anyway because then all of the reviewers out there will have passed judgement on it.

I like Jake Gyllenhaal as an actor (even though I cannot spell his last name so I just call him Jakey G) and I gotta say there seems to be a lot riding on this and wether or not it will succeed is down to chance really. I mean it said from the producers of Pirates of the Carribean (another thing I can't spell, I need a thesaurus) and besides it has BEN KINGSLEY in it, one of the best influencial actors of our time if you ask me.
You guys realise if this movie succeeds it does mean that people will probably start taking video game stories a little more seriously.

Okay, I have a few things to say about this trailer, first, why disney, why can`t it be twisted pictures or something, second, why don`t they let johnny depp play as the prince, third, where`s the sarcastic left arm that the "prince" knows and hates, fourth, why does disney have to try out the "violent genre" in it`s movies, if it`s good at the "heartwarming family-frendly" movies then why go for the "super hardcore action violence kablooey" genre, fifth, those graphics are horrificly cheesy, I get better visuals from drying paint, sixth, why does the "dagger of time" look like some sort of cheap toy from dollar tree, seventh, why don`t they name the characters correctly, and eight, why do all the blokes in that movie look like they just got out of a long, hot, and gay shower. i`m sorry if i offended anyone with this post but these cheesy movies just make me loopy...and mad because there was obviously no effort put into it (as are most movies that derive from video games or fantasy books...)but what i`m trying to say is that this movie will definetly get into the hall of lame in my book!

Don't get too excited, we've all been disappointed by past videogame movie failures (Super Mario, Dead or Alive, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Final Fantasy, House of the Dead, Street Fighter, etc.)
Super Mario was a travesty that completely altered every aspect of the game.
House of the Dead was by Uwe Boll.
Street Fighter was a low-budget piece of crap.
Final Fantasy was an example of pouring way too much money into something without entertainment quality.
Dead or Alive was fan service, and that's it.

Wow...you basically picked all the notoriously bad, low-budget movies (except FF) and presented them as indicative of all video game movies. One was even by Uwe Boll...I'm surprised you didn't put Bloodrayne and In The Name Of The King on there too.

Resident Evil was mildly entertaining and got two sequels that did decently. Silent Hill got mediocre but decent reviews. You failed to mention Tomb Raider, which was at least entertaining, and Max Payne, which tried new things and brought back the film noir genre for a spin.

So basically, I'm saying your list is pretty heavily biased.

Back OT: Jerry Bruckheimer usually knows what he's doing if he produces a movie by himself...almost all of his movies have made bank. Jake Gyllenhaal, despite the Donnie Darko hate, has really matured as an actor over the past decade...try watching Zodiac. And Mike Newell, the director, is a very competent filmmaker with experience in drama, comedy, and fantasy...his most famous movies are probably Donnie Brasco, Mona Lisa Smile, and Harry Potter 4.
