Christ, I had to read the title twice and half the post before I realized this wasn't about piracy. Wow.
Anyway... what you're describing isn't so much a rejection of privacy. Thats just a side-effect of facebook/twitter/[putting your entire boring life online] becoming so popular that its unpopular to reject that bullshit.

No facebook and twitter for me. I've posted a few things about myself here that are quite personal but then again, the once who read this wil only see the name of my avatar and my firstname. Oh, and my country... big deal. The thing I don't like about facebook and twitter is that it connects far more things to your 'true' self and for that I don't ever want to use it. I rather see people face to face and tell them all kinds of things if I want. Sometimes I hear people around me here (in RL that is) babbeling about how cameras and what not are a disrespect on their privacy but take the time to write everything down on facebook. I don't get it.

I've never had a Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, or anything on one of those social networking sites. I've never used MSN, ICQ, or Skype, though I did use AIM in highschool.
When I meet new people, they ask about my Facebook page. Most of them, upon finding out that I don't have one, will pretty much refuse to acknowledge my existence.
Apparently, since I don't announce every bowel movement on 4 different sites, I'm an outcast and a weirdo. I don't care, though.

I'm an incredibly private person and I have no issues with it. The few people who do get close enough for me to share with have to work at it. I know who my friends are, and I don't have the usual high school drama because of it.
I consider myself similar. I'm private and somewhat secretive on the Internet (CONTRADICTION!). I do have a Facebook page, but that I mainly use to save my ass when I forget what the school assignemnts were, other than that I just Facebook IM the people that I normally would have texted, IMing is just faster.

As for privacy, I have no problem with people keeping their privacy, but I am less likely to trust that you are who you say you are. (You, Cgull, are an exception because through chatting in the user groups, I think I've gotten a good feel for who you are)
I've been tricked before, though, when I was a lot younger and when the internet was still in it's infancy. We emailed using green screen monitors and the web had no pictures on it. A guy randomly emailed me and said he was in med school and got me to talk to him. It turned out he lived in the city I did and lo and behold, was not who he said he was.
So because of this, I tend to be blunt about who I am. My real name is my user name, I link to my facebook account and my gaming accounts. I say where I live. I tend to mistrust people who want to be my friend and have nothing to link them to any real place.
People can be whoever they want on the net rather easily. I assume most people are lying about at least some things until I get to know them better.
My rule of the internet is to ask people to tell you five things about themselves and at best 3 out of 5 are true.
I have no doubt some people hide behind privacy in order to scam others for some reason or another. That doesn't mean privacy is bad mind you, but it does mean you should be wary before you get an internet crush on someone who has no real link to anything other than a single forum/website/whatever. The more points of reference someone has, the more real they seem to people.

Well I use facebook, though I don't find it weird at all if someone I know doesn't use it; I'd understand because it can be very aggravating at times. I use it mainly for talking to friends I don't get to see that often, or posting random youtube shenanigans to my friends if I find a good link and that's about the extent of it. The constant barrage of quizzes, farmville requests and friend requests from people I talked to once at a bus stop 12 years ago tend to piss me off after a while. And then you're obliged to say yes, and the main page is filled with inane ramblings.Cgull said:

I don't like Facebook. Frankly, I spend way too much time here already, I don't need another online social network besides this one. I am inclined to bring up the South Park episode as well, because it pretty much sums up my Facebooking (which happened a year or so ago) minus the Tron bit at the end.
I have a Facebook, but only to announce and invite people to different events (street sales, birthdays, movies)
