Starting the last 5 weeks of year one of college, and possibly done half of all assignments, I find that I can't settle down to do work unless there's real pressure to do it, (such as it being due in months ago, and planning to start it in the next week or so). I'm sure i'll manage it, it'll just mean a few sleepless nights.

I procrastinate for several reasons:

1. I'm lazy. Smart, but lazy. I know I can get it done just fine at the last minute.

2. I work well under pressure. I have come up with some of my best theses and ideas when it was crunch time, not to mention I'm one of those people whose first draft doesn't need revision because I'm so picky as I write it.

3. It takes less time. When it's crunch time, I work faster, and therefore spend less overall time working, which leads back to my laziness.

4. Fear. This is a big one for me. If I'm intimidated by an assignment, I try to put it out of my head and worry about it later. It's stupid to do this, I know, but it happens nonetheless.

I'm sure there are other reasons, but these are the ones that come to mind.
This sounds like me. Are you me?

I am the Master of procrastination. I put off everything, even the things that I want to do. I guess i'm just lazy, but it all works out in the end.

So do I. But I've got my maths past papers open next to me so I'm solving equations while waiting for pages to load.

Many people act on the spur of the moment, thus you procrastinate.

I too am procrastinating, finals I haven't studied for are coming up in a few hours and I know of two forms I still haven't turned in.

I haven't studied seriously ever since the fifth grade. No, really. I literally haven't studied for longer than a half hour ever since I was eleven.

Oddly enough, I still end up among the top of the class.

My GCSE (finals) are next week, and i have spent most of today lounging about the house.
Why?
Laaameee! :p

I had to finish my entire Physics A2 syllabus in one night because I refused to study anything till the day before my Unit-6 exam.

It went rather well, surprisingly...

I have a 3-hour computing paper tomorrow! I'm posting on here instead of revising!

I feel shit about it but I'm still doing it!

I have my second Politics AS paper tomorrow (its my last exam too), and I can't be arsed to do any revision.

I've copied out some notes over the past few days, but that's about it. I honestly cannot write two lines without stopping and doing something else for 5 minutes.

Also, people do it because there are two parts of your brain essentially fighting one another: one part is the part that acknowledges long-term goals, but it burns out pretty quickly, whereas the "instant gratification" part is always active.

I procrastinate, simply, because I hate working. If I can get through something boring with as little effort as possible then I will and I'll leave it right until the last possible minute, hanging over the precipice of failure.

Dirty, dirty things I'd probably get banned for writing on these forums.

Yeah, but the weeks timetable is quite nice for me when I think about it:

Wednesday: English paper 1, Nothing
Thursday: Nothing, English paper 2
Friday: Geography, Maths paper 1

Monday: Maths paper 2, Irish paper 1 (the one subject I don't care about at all)
Tuesday: Irish paper 2, Business
Wednesday: French, Nothing

Tuesday: Chemistry

Quite spaced out so I can take it sorta easy.

I pretty much only procrastinated once, seriously anyway. After sitting up until 02.00 in the night I stopped doing that.

I figure that it doesn't matter if I do the work now or later, as long as I spend the same amount of hours.

Yeah it's not too bad. I'm just happy that I have a week break, like yourself, between the rest of the exams and chemistry. Any idea as to what titration might come up? I'm thinking either the Winkler titration or one of the titrations involving iodine and starch solution.
