Project MKUltra Reloaded ? Perfect Mind Control

In the 1980s during the cold war, in a small town in rural Ohio, USA, there was a hospital named Saint John's. The hospital's director was a great supporter of the USA and a proud patriot, and he was ecstatic when CIA operatives offered him to serve his country. He would offer a revolutionary new drug experiment to those between the ages of sixteen and sixty and fit the description the CIA suggested. The experiment was sold as a wonder drug ? some sweet nectar that could cure anything from migraines to severe drug addictions, all depending on the test subject. Those who volunteered for the experiment were paid for their pioneer contribution and were subjected to the drug. The experimental new drug the CIA had developed was supposed to turn test subjects into obedient dolls ? the hypothesis was tested for hours on each test subject, and after the test ended another drug which wiped the memory of their interrogation was put into their bodies. This was merely one experiment in the nigh endless list of psychological chemical experiments the CIA had forced upon Americans who weren't even aware of the experiment taking place.

You left the hospital the next day roughly at the same time in the morning. You couldn't quite tell what you went through, but you definitely felt different than before. To the CIA operatives, the experiment failed spectacularly. To you, something grand had happened. First and foremost, a special bond was formed between you and the other test subjects. This bond would make it easy for you to spot each other in a crowd and find your location. With the strange connection also came an even stranger ability ? the capability to control kinetic fields to create forces that would push, pull, resist and break anything imaginable. All that stood between you and omnipotence was the limits of your imagination and practice. With every new try of your powers you learned from your experience and improved your abilities.

It won't be long till you find each other and try to find out how you came to this situation and what you could do with it. The realization that you have been experimented upon might strike you and reveal a secret some people want to keep under wraps. Your unusual powers will draw attention from the CIA that would be anxious to test your abilities and recreate the experiment, or perhaps first worry about covering their tracks and killing all possible leaks. Nobody could know the CIA was experimenting on the American people without the government's knowledge, even if it had to resort to unspeakable acts.

Faced with this new development, you have to decide what to do with your newly found powers and whether you should unite or scatter to the winds. Be on the run from vengeful CIA agents and try to get the real story out to the public in a last ditch effort to save your lives? But wait, we haven't gone there yet. Right now you've just recovered from a night of terrible headaches, preparing to leave the hospital. I wonder what the future would look like.

[Str-0; Spd -0; End -0; Fns -0]

The Mechanics
The mechanics behind the power:

You as a character don't know much about this ability you possess. You can learn more about it from experience and conversations with others like you.

This is how it works:

Do not abuse this knowledge in the game if you're unaware of it as a character.

The power strengthens the more you use it. You can control kinetic fields and energies, by which you can move around objects including yourself. You can also stop (or slow down) objects in motion. You can even lift your body and fly yourself. Imagination is the limit ? or at least that's what it will be when you're the most powerful.

There are four stats that are tied to each character. Each stat is rated from Zero to Four. Zero being the most basic psychokinetic ability (you raise a pebble in the air, for example) and four being nigh godlike.

Strength is brute force for the most part, or how much of a kinetic field you can push or pull on certain objects.

Speed is how fast you can accelerate objects or slow them down.

Endurance tests how long you can use your powers before you suffer the consequences ? first headaches, nosebleeds, and later it can cause exhaustion, internal injuries, even death.

Finesse tests your fine motor skills with your powers ? you can push and shove objects away, but can you use your powers to write on paper with your pen from afar? It makes a difference in the range of actions you can make, making some attempts to preform delicate tasks into disaster if their Finesse stat is low. It also controls your ability to multi-task.

How do you raise your stats? You use your powers. The different kinds of actions influence what aspect of your powers you improve and over time gaps between the players will occur, making the range of their abilities different from others.

I have a sheet. :)

Name: Louise Staten/'Emily'

Age: 17

Race: Caucasian

Gender: Female

Appearance: Louise is 5ft 7in tall, with a slim build and fair skin, that throws her vivid green eyes into focus. She hates people commenting on her appearance, so she often tries to avoid making eye contact with people, in hope that they won't notice her eye colour. She has sandy hair that she cuts short, partly so it won't get in the way, and partly because short hair is far easier for a homeless person to maintain. Louise tries hard to hide the old scars on her left wrist, that betray her history of self-harm. In her right ear she has several piercings, while underneath on the right hand side of her neck, she has a small tattoo of a broken crucifix.

If she made an effort to show off her qualities, there's no reason why Louise couldn't be seen as attractive. However, he mousy, almost child-like demeanor means that people don't tend to look at her in a sexual sense, and those that would rarely have good intentions. When 'Emily' takes over, she uses Louise's physical attributes to her full advantage.

Personality: Louise is shy and withdrawn, and will do her best to blend into the background of any situation. She has very good instincts when it comes to sensing danger and reading people's intentions. Something she's only got better at since she's had to learn to fend for herself. In the past, many have assumed that her lack of confidence, and her struggle with interacting socially with people, is a sign of a lack of intelligence. In fact, Louise is very bright, she just hates drawing attention to herself. Louise's relationship with 'Emily' is confused and toxic. On the one hand, she lives in constant fear of Emily's capacity for cruelty when she takes control of Louise's body, and when around other people, Louise is acutely aware that she is putting them in danger simply by being there. On the other hand, her isolation from her peers has led to Emily being her only consistent company. The only person she can depend on to always be there, and to always protect both of them. She is also jealous of the confidence Emily possesses.

'Emily' is a completely different animal to Louise, always in control and utterly dominant of her surroundings. She is also a manipulative sadist, who derives a distinct pleasure from asserting power over other people in any way she can, whether that be tricking them, seducing them, or torturing and killing them. When she want's to, Emily can be very friendly, but in reality she sees all other people as playthings for her little games. She will frequently mock and scorn Louise's demure nature. However, she also shows a distinct protective instinct towards her; and when someone tries to hurt or humiliate Louise, Emily will make hunting them down and taking revenge her top priority. In Emily's opinion, Louise needs her to do the things that Louise herself will never have the guts to do to protect herself. Although, it could certainly be argued that Emily has caused as many problems for Louise as she has solves. An utterly unpredictable psychopath, no-one is safe around Emily.

Skills: Although she's never had any professional training as an athlete of gymnast, Louise is notably fast and agile. Able to outrun most pursuers and reach hiding places and escape routes most other people couldn't manage. She's stronger than she looks, although her lack of aggression undermines her strength. However, as 'Emily' she will stand and fight, and often win.

History: Louise grew up in San Diego, California. While she was an only child growing up, she was actually born a conjoined twin, joined at the head to her sister, named 'Emily'. Unfortunately, in the efforts to separate them, 'Emily' died and Louise was left with possible brain damage. Her parents could never quite get over the grief. Her Dad would drink, and when he did he would sometimes get violent with Louise, while her Mother refused to confront the problem. Despite her intelligence, Louise didn't do well at school. Her shy nature made her a target for bullies, and all throughout her school life, her teachers could never understand the meaning behind her occasional outbursts of fierce and terrifying aggression, that could manifest at the flick of a switch. Nobody realised until it was too late, that a whole other personality with a mind of its own was developing inside Louise.

One day at school, when she was 14, Louise was ambushed in the bathroom by a group of girls who had always enjoyed picking on her. The torment they put her through was barbaric and utterly humiliating. That night, 'Emily' made her first fully fledged appearance, assuming complete control over Louise's body and mind, in a blackout that Louise would remember nothing of the next morning. The pieces started coming together though, when the news got round that one of the other girls at school, the ringleader of the gang that had attacked her, was missing. Her remains were discovered a few days later, in an abandoned garage complex. She'd been subjected to horrific torture, and been flayed alive. By the time the body was discovered, Louise had already fled town.

Ever since then, Louise has has to remain on the move, often sleeping rough, and using several false names. She now lives in constant fear of two things. First, that she will be found and arrested for murder, and that no-one would believe her if she said it was Emily (a point Emily is always keen to remind her of); and second, that Emily has now developed a taste for blood since the first murder. Often, whenever she has started to feel safe enough to stay in one place for a significant amount of time, Emily will commit some sort of violent crime which forces her to flee again. Her flight eventually took her all the way to Ohio, where she heard about the 'Miracle Drug' trials. Naturally, her instincts tried to tell Louise that it was too good to be true, but the allure of the promise that she might finally be able to control Emily, was too much for a desperate Louise to resist. She thought she'd found the answer to her biggest problem. In fact, all she may have done is make Emily more powerful and dangerous than ever.

Other: As you've probably figured out by now, Louise has a form of Schizophrenia, that manifests as full-blown Multiple Personality Disorder. When this happens, her alter-ego manifests as the spirit of her dead twin, 'Emily', who's personality is the complete opposite of hers. As herself, Louise with probably use her powers to help avoid confrontation, while 'Emily' will actively seek out dangerous situations, so she can satisfy her sadistic nature. 'Emily' is more than just voices in Louise's head. She is a full-blown personality all of her own, and when Louise changes back to herself, she can never remember anything that 'Emily' has done with her body. She volunteered for the experiments in the hope that she could make 'Emily' go away, or at least be able to control her. Instead, 'Emily' is now more powerful and dangerous than ever.

I also have a question, in light of my characters two, diametrically opposed personalities, is it okay for me to have two different set of stats? One for Louise, and one for 'Emily'. There two skill sets would then develop independently from one another, although no faster than anybody else's. For example, Louise would specialize in Speed and Endurance, while 'Emily' would have more points in Strength and Finesse.

Appearance: 5ft 7in tall, skinny, pale, short sandy hair, vivid green eyes, sings of self-harm on her left wrist (but only her left wrist), an elaborate set of piercings in her right ear, and a tattoo on the right side of her neck, simply dressed, usually in faded, torn jeans and long sleeve t-shirts.

Personality: As Louise, she is quiet, shy and withdrawn. She is very intelligent, but often afraid to show it outwardly, lest she draw attention to herself. She lives in a constant and toxic mix of fear, love, and jealousy towards 'Emily'.

As 'Emily', she is confident, authoritative, seductive, vengeful and sadistic. She takes pleasure in manipulating, dominating, and hurting others, something which her new powers will open up a whole world of new possibilities for her. 'Emily' is always insisting that Louise 'needs' her, as someone with the strength to do things that Louise can't.

If you have the two skill-sets, then the average rate of your progress will be halved. If you hone your skill as one personality, the other personality does not benefit from this training and if you choose to use one personality more often than the other then one of them will fall behind.

How did she end up in Ohio?

I'll solve that problem by making Emily entirely focused on Strength. That way, even though Emily's appearances may be more brief than Louise's, Emily's strength skill will progress at the same rate as or higher than Louise's Speed, Endurance, and Finesse, because all the points will be going into one category, rather than being shared out.

As for how she ended up in Ohio, she ran away from home at age 14, and has been keeping on the move, lest she be found and sent back, ever since (she also has to keep running away from crimes committed by 'Emily'). It was when she got to Ohio that she heard about the experiment, and signed up thinking she'd found the answer to all her problems.

That's what I meant, that Emily's use of her powers will be overwhelmingly Strength based. Therefore, her Strength will naturally increase rapidly, while Louise's use of her powers would be more spread out over the other three classes, leading to a more gradual and even growth. I didn't mean I was going to pick and choose where to put skill points.

Here's my sheet:
Name: David Beland

Age: 21

Race: Caucasian

Gender: Male

Appearance: At 6'4", David is a large, athletically built man. He lets his mid-length, dark brown hair fall freely to his shoulders. One of his eyes is brown, and his other one is baby blue. Normally, he wears a white t-shirt and blue denim jeans. He is clean-shaven.

Personality: David is calm and confident. He tends to try to get along with people and find peaceful solutions, but will use force when necessary. David also is reasonably intelligent, however, he is very aloof, constantly blanking out in the middle of tasks and conversation. The only time he isn't as aloof is when he is writing, at which point he becomes solely focused on the work at hand. Nonetheless, he still dreams of overcoming this problem and making a name for himself as an author.

Skills: Years of football training have made David strong, though not particularly fast. Still, he is very good at (American) football. He's also a history major, choosing to study all aspects of human history-and a English minor.

History: David grew up in rural New Jersey. The son of a businessman, David did not see his dad all to often. Still, you cannot say his dad was a poor parent. When he did get home from business trips, he would spend as much time as possible with his family. He'd take young David to football games at the local high school, or to Franklin Field for an Eagles game. David grew to love the sport, and begged his parents to sign him up for local leagues, which they did. From there, there was no stopping David, who played as a lineman. He went on to play in high school, where he showed himself to be one of the best players on the team. He had scholarships lined up. He was one of the most popular kids in his school. The only. Things were looking good for David. Then he lost it all.

David had a tendency to be a bit of a braggart. During one game, he managed to make an opposing lineman very upset. The next play, that same lineman hit him a bit harder than either of them expected. David was thrown backwards onto his head, and promptly knocked out cold. An ambulance was called to bring David off the field. While David recovered rather quickly, his doctor advised him against playing in the next game, saying that he had a concussion and another head injury could be even more serious. David, ignored the doctor's orders, and came back for the next game. During that game, David was nearly killed when he received yet another head injury. He managed to survive, spending several weeks in the hospital afterwards, and spending the rest of the season on the bench, but the damage was done.

David started become aloof, constantly blanking out during even simple conversations. He started becoming distant from people who he once considered his friends. He had frequent bouts of dizziness, his vision became blurred, and he had frequent headaches. Next he suffered from random mood swings, further distancing himself from other people. Eventually, it was concluded David could not play in the next season, promptly eliminating any chance for a scholarship. While the mood swings eventually resided, and the headaches and dizziness were controlled with over-the-counter medicines, David still suffered from aloofness.

For months, David had no idea how to control it, until his English teacher figured out a way to control it. During a Creative Writing Class, David's teacher realized that whenever he was writing something, he became much more focused on the task at hand, as his work showed. As a result, David began writing short stories, though none have been published as of yet.

Even though he could no longer get a sports scholarship, David still hoped to attend college. He got lucky. A small private college in Ohio, located not to far from St. John's hospital, accepted him. David took out a loan, and, with the help of his parents, set off for college.

About 3 years into college, David heard about the new "miracle drug" experiment at the nearby hospital. Hoping to solve his condition once and for all.

Other: As might have been implied, David suffers from post-concussion syndrome. This condition is what makes him so aloof. The aloofness doesn't do much other than cause him to blank out during conversations. David also has an apartment near the college he goes to.

He had frequent bouts of dizziness, his vision became blurred, and he had frequent headaches. Next he suffered from random mood swings, further distancing himself from other people. This will be fun to read. I don't see a problem with it.
