Protagonists Who Are Jerks

It's not hard to notice how Dante from Dante's Inferno is a huge jerk. Below is a list of events that transpire during Dante's 'righteous' adventure.

Swears on the cross to be faithful to his wife, fails, places blame on his wife's brother, who is executed, massacres innocents, slices Death in half, thereby destroying all life, decapitates Charon, rips Minos' face in half, destroys the giant tornado penis tower in Lust, kills the guardian of Lust, Cerberus, busts the Wheel of Fortune, storms through Wrath on Phlegyas, causes Heresy to crumble apart, and then lets Satan into Heaven.

Well, just pay attention to everything. Even still alot of stuff is debated. Mostly because people do not realize Prima Guides can be wrong.

Well Kratos, considering in the 3rd one he flat out starts killing people who offer him the things he kills them for. Alex Mercer would be, if he would stop acting like a good person in cut scenes right after I got done running down a crowded side walk with my sheild out.

She's just all nice and he isn't.

Something I find interesting about "jerk" protagonists is that, theoretically, we, the player, are supposed to identify with the main character somehow. This means that if the developers make the protagonist a complete jerkass then it's kind of an indication of what they think of their audience. That being said, I'm sure there are some times where we all wish we were as earth-shakingly awesome as Kratos or whoever.

I think Kratos was less of a Jerk in GoW 1, and turned into a complete turd in 2 and 3.
