I watched Avatar recently and the Na'vi just pissed me off. They acted like they were better than the humans and didn't even listen to the humans terms. I have a few others, but that is the biggest one. What protagonists that you are supposed to side with did you hate?(and by extension prefer the antagonist)

I can't stand Ted for HIMYM. He had potential early on. When he decides to actually be friends with Robin after their dating falls through I though was a great character moment. But as it goes on I get more and more "meh" about him. Whenever he complains about anything, he's a handsome architect living in New York who dates dozens upon dozens of women, his life is so hard.

Not helped that all of the other characters are funnier and more interesting.

Oh, man...there's someone I hate but whom I can't remember right now, so, as a placeholder, I'm going with Wolverine. Because he tries to act like murder and bleeding and angst are cool.

inb4 Nathan Drake.

Alex Mercer from Prototype isn't exactly likable. But I'm not sure if he's supposed to be...

I'd have to think to actually come up with more, though.

Wait, I've got one. Kratos. He was okay in God of War, even almost relatable, but God of War II turned him into a hollow caricature of his former self, and he becomes so laughably consumed by his lust for vengeance that he turns full-circle into one of the most ridiculous video game characters I've ever seen.

Most of the cast of Battlestar Galactica, especially Adama, President Roslin, and Starbuck. As the series goes on, Adama and Roslin are just wildly irresponsible in their treatment of their leadership roles, doing things to endanger everyone or risking precious resources on wild goose chases, and just generally being smug and complacent when they should be under heaps of scrutiny. They could have been less offensive in a different storyline, but with the way the writers handled it, they were permanently in the goodest of the good guy roles even as they were being relentlessly terrible.

Starbuck is just the worst. Everything she does is calculated to be relentlessly abrasive. All she does is mope around whining about how bad her problems are when the entire human race is on the verge of being killed. She has no redeeming character traits, but she is nonetheless put on the same damn good guy pedestal by the writers

Off the top of my head, Teyla from Stargate: Atlantis. I don't know if it was the actress or the character herself, but I couldn't stand a bar of her.

Also, Jigglypuff from the Pokemon anime. Fuck Jigglypuff.

Honesty I tend to root for the villains more than the heros, but no we must get the cliche good beats evil endings, so when I be play as a evil character or race in games, I tend to like it more than when it came to being the good guys, except like in koror to fallout, goody two shoes for me, thought only because being evil makes me guilty in those games.

Bran Stark and Davos Seaworth.

Everytime I read their chapters, boredom hits me like no other. Only redeeming factor is seeing Stannis Baratheon.

That boy from Evangelion... I couldn't finish watching because of him.
He's so annoying that makes me want to kill innocent bystanders...

Cmdr. Shepard from Mass Effect. I hate his soldatesque and lack of finesse.

BTW : It's possible that we hate some people/characters because we see ourselves in them, or rather some flaws of our own characters. ;]

Jack Kelso from L.A. Noire. When you have a game full of gray and black morality, the last thing we need is a protagonist that is so...damn...perfect!

Agreed, there was so many moments where you cant help but think "Get over it already". I appreciate thats part of his character and if anything its a great portrayal of what happens when you load all that stress onto a kid but even still. Gets frustrating after the first few episodes, desensitize already!

My biggest problem with Ted, is the fact that every other season he falls in love with Robin again, it's gotten to the point where we know for certain that Robin isn't his future wife and it's just become a stalling tactic for the writers to keep the show going longer than needed.

Video Game - Hope from Final Fantasy 13. I have never wanted a punch a child so hard in the face as much as him.

Movie - Ewoks. Just when you thought things were going great with Empire Strikes Back, Lucas finally goes "dark side" and unleashes them upon the his fans...er the Empire.

EDIT: A close second for Movies would be Sam Whitwhikey, or however it is spelled, from the Transformers movies. He just complains and moans in the 3rd film despite having a CAR THAT TURNS INTO A MOTHER F^&^ING ROBOT and a super model for a girlfriend. What a jack.

Nathan fucking Drake.

Every word that spews from his pompous, generic, pretty boy mouth just makes me want to smash a Crystal Skull DVD and jam the pieces in his eyes(2 birds with one stone).

Incidentally I really liked Uncharted 2... I just hate the man I'm guiding through it.

Katara, from Avatar: the Last Airbender.
Because her entire role in the show was to be a goody two-shoes, and ***** about everything.
I mean, she learns Blood Bending and only uses it twice, because it's 'evil'.
The fact that she is the fucking love interest for Aang only rubs salt into the wound.

That prick in Spec Ops: The Line

Look. What you did was nothing short of intentional. If you shoot civilians, guess what? Civilians fucking die. There was no way you could have NOT known what you were doing, so own the fuck up to it.
