Here´s some i´ve bought that i really enjoy:

-FF X and XII (X has a great story and XII has an interesting combat system)
-Devil May Cry 3(if you played DMC you have to play this...so much fun)
-Sly Coopern (my favourite platformer for the ps2)
-Gran Turismo 3 and 4 (racing on the ps2 doesnt get any better than this)
-Silent Hill 2 and 3(2 is a masterpiece, 3 is great if you played 1)
-Tekken Tag Tournament(I just love this game...tekken 5 has better graphics, but the tag system makes this one a keeper)
-SSX (screw Tony Hawk, this game rocks)
-Mortal Kombat Armaggeddon (the Kreate-A-Fighter mode is awesome)

This is all you need...

So much of my early teens wasted on this game <3
Ahhh.... Good times.

Such a great, yet unknown, classic.

OP: Ratchet and Clank, and the entire .Hack// series. Believe me, I HATE JRPG's, but .Hack// nearly made me jizz.

Definately the Gran Turismos. Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 was also fun. Steambot Chronicles is great for a choose your own adventure type game, and Grandia III is a fantastic RPG.

Ratchet & Clank 3 and Fatal Frame. You've already got Resident Evil 4, though, so I'm a bit baffled as to why on earth you would need any other game, but to each his own.

You simply cannot go wrong with the Kingdom Hearts games. Final Fantasy X is also pretty good.

The Shadow Hearts trilogy, especially the first two. JRPGs with a fantastic blend of dark surrealism and goofy humor. The first one is great, the second one is even better, the third game is...not quite as good, but still good.

The Drakengard bi(?)logy. Gameplay is similar to Dynasty Warriors, so nothing too special there, but the story is full of such amazing, apocalyptic WTFery you will not know which way is up. The second is considerably lighter in tone than the first, but both are good in their own ways.

The Legacy of Kain, uh...quintilogy? The first two games (Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen and Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver) are on the PS1, the other three (Blood Omen 2, Soul Reaver 2, and Legacy of Kain: Defiance) are on the PS2. Basically it's about vampires and time travel, but it goes so much deeper than that. A complex and fascinating story, well-developed characters, and excellent voice acting.

God Hand. A deceptively simply beat-em-up where you run around and fight demons with an impressive collection of combat moves. And it's /hard/. This game will kick your ass, but you won't notice because you'll be too busy laughing said ass off.

The Yakuza series. Only 1 and 2 are on the PS2, but they're worth a look, especially 2. Open-world(ish) action-RPGs with a very robust environmental combat system, tons of sidequests, and a compelling story and characters.

I was gonna look into the Soul Reaver games. Those look pretty cool.
Also, Raziel looks like a badass.

Metal Gear.
Metal Gear?
METAL GEAR!
All of 'em.
Well, besides that.
What about racing? I've hear good things about GT4.
RC Revenge Pro. Best racer ever made. I'm not even being sarcastic. It fucking rocks.
Also, in the non-racing, theres Ratchet and Clank, all of em are great, Psychonauts, Red Faction 2 (for multiplayer mainly), and Scarface: the world is yours and True Crime: Streets of LA are great too.

PS2 memories? A million, squillion hours of that first FUCKING mission for FUCKING Zero in GTA: San Andreas. That mission was FUCKING hard. GAA I can taste the frustration in my memories.

Devil May Cry
Transformers Armada
Tekken 5
Ico
Shadow of the Collossus
The Warriors (this is a beat em up based on an old 70s cult classic)
Crash Bandicoot 3 (PS1 but great fun)
God of War

These are my personal recommendations

Black is a kickass game that beats even more modern games in terms of gameplay. That whole game is gun porn.
