So I've been looking at the PS3 lately as it seems to have come in to it's own a little more; the first year or so of it's launch was pretty much a disaster on Sony's part.

I'm much more of a PC gamer, but recently became the owner of a 360 just before he realised I'd probably prefer a PS3 - the 360 now seems more like a rather cheap PC in which you have to pay for everything, whereas the PS3 has the likes of inFamous and Uncharted 1/2 which are far less likely to ever appear on a PC than a 360 exclusive is.

If someone could:

1) Name the best place to buy a PS3 (in the UK & in store)
2) Recommend some games
3) Say whether or not you'd think I should sell the 360 (PS3's aren't really that cheap)
4) Give an indication of how much games shared with the 360 suffer in terms of performance, etc.*

Feel free to go into far more detail than those points if you'd like, I'll appreciate the help.

*Obviously this would be for someone who's played some of the same games on each platform.

EDIT: Also, the Slim or the older model - does it make much difference other than space saving? I can't really see much difference in price so I'd probably go for the Slim anyway, but it'd be nice to know.
As a owner of all consoles.

1) £ 250/300 Including a bundle. The bundle should include a extra Pad and 2 Great games.

2) Batman AA, MGS4, Infamous ( Forget the hate this is a game worth remembering), Warhawk (One of the greatest online games), Killzone 2, Demon Souls (Hard but very rewarding), Uncharted 2 (This should come in a bundle) , Ratchet and Clank: Crack in time. The list Can go on for a while so I suggest just looking at some obvious game sites for scores.

3) Keep the 360 it's good to have both consoles for future preferance.

4) Can't help on that.

Overall like many people have already said the PS3 is worth the money and it will last long if you feel like having one by all means pay the money to get it.

I was very nervous as well for buying at such a high price but looking back to it and see what I have now, it was a purchase I was glad that I made.

(Keep the 360 having both consoles is a win/win)

Don't sell your 360. I have both, and every multiplatform game I've played is significantly better on the 360. Don't take that as my telling you to not buy a ps3, because the exclusives are awsome (I'm particualary a fan of MGS4 and I'm really excited about demon souls), The PS3 exclusives I have are far better than my xbox 360 exclusives. So, basicially, I wouldn't sell the 360.
Significantly? No, if anything its a slight difference.
I don't pretend to have played every game on both, however it isn't uncommon for PS3 multiplatform games to have a maximum resolution of 720p where the 360 release has 1080p (brutal legend for example). I'm not going to try and think up an exhaustive list nor do I plan on arguing it further, in my experience that's how it is.

Only the people that can't.
Haha, it's true - FPS's will always be played on my PC unless they're exclusive to a console.

From what I can tell barely any console games actually hit the 1080 mark.

I suggest E-bay and look for one of the old 60gigs, that way you can have backwards compat. If you must get a new one I guess where you buy it doesn't matter. Also, if you are thinking about getting any shooter, most stores in the U.S. sell little 4$ flippers whihc turn the bumpers into actual triggers, makes shooting much easier.

No, they aren't really working the "we has HD now, okz" thing as hard as I'd like, but there are some and I suppose nobody plays consoles expecting cutting edge graphics.

You'd be surprised how many people think 4 and 2 year old tech (the 360 and PS3 respectively) is more powerful and better looking than what a PC can run today, or even a PC from the same time.

The tech powering the '360s graphics core is actually more modern, which apparently nobody else in the internet is aware of. The PS3s GPU is modelled off of the nvidia 7800, which is more than a few years old (4 or 5 at least). While it's true the processor is much newer I'm not convinced that graphicially either PS3 or Xbox 360 could've looked like being able to compete with computer rigs built on tech around the same time both were released (the xbox presumably having more chance as it was released a year earlier). Oh well, I guess there are people out there who actually beleive that it's cheaper to game on a console than it is a PC.

OP: I suggest you get PS3 exclusives. (As few as they are) They're actually pretty good, or so I hear. But I suggest you keep the 360 and if you feel like buying a multiplatform game then buy it for the 360 to save money.
Um how exactly do you do that? Is there some exchange program where you can make money by playing on XBL? Cause if you end up having to pay a monthly fee, then won't the 360 game cost more?
If he's playing the single-player multiplatform games like Bioshock, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Oblivion, Fallout 3, Dead Space or Prototype then the price of online play is irrelevant.
Ok, but then they would be the same price wouldn't they? So then were does he "save money" again? Because I am still not getting that.

You are lying to yourself, your eyes deceive you.

You can't think up an exhaustive list because there isn't one, your not planning on arguing it further because you are unable too.

Just to make this clear, most Ps3 exclusives are vastly overrated, especially Infamous and most PSN titles.
I actually thought inFAMOUS was a pretty fun game, but yeah, the PSN games do suck (for the most part.)
Yeah, I liked InFamous as well. LittleBig Planet was good too, but resistance and Killzone 2 weren't that great.

And then there's God of War....

Or it could be more to do with my not wanting to dig through either the internet or my own games archive so as to prove that the xbox 360 upscales where the ps3 does not, the list of games upscaled on xbox but not PS3 is rather large (like, 95% of all releases). 720p is the most popular option and the upscaling of the xbox is a nice touch.

The cold hard facts are the master/slave 2900 based gpu in the xbox is far more capable than the 7800 based chipset in the PS3, so it really isn't surprising that games desgined across platforms (that is to say, games not designed opimially for the ps3) are inferior. It may be that I am looking for differences, but whether or not I want them to be there, they are there. Whether you think my eyes are lying to me or not, the xbox 360 has more upscaling and is undeniably easier to work with and in my experience plays multiplatform games better. Being better on one console isn't restricted to graphics, there's also the whole multiplayer thing as well (while xbox live is terrible in Australia, it is easier to use than PSN and PSN matchmaking only ever seems better because it doesn't constantly laugh at me for throwing money at it).

At any rate, my advice remains the same, do not sell the 360 for a ps3, just wait a few months until you can afford it...
