Yeah I'm glad that I picked up a 60 gig as it has BC. But, I thought they were still making Fats with BC. I'd heard that if it has four USB ports, it has it. Are they not even making fats anymore? I didn't know that. I'm glad I have it simply because it makes managing saves easier, but I also have a ps2 so it's not so bad. Plus, Gameshark still works on the ps2 :p

Yeah, it does suck everyone ditched the older generation....

Yeah, even the 360. No Timesplitters? Breakdown? A huge amount of other games I loved?

OH, but they can let me play Yourself!Fitness! Awesome! /sarcasm.

That is why I still have my old Xbox and PS2. I love those things.

Last i checked they did it to make it cheaper, removing the Emotion Engine from the PS3 is one of the reasons it's $299

strange thing is that they have a free add-on that allows ps2 games to work on the ps3 but the only problem is that it only works with games that can be downloaded to the hard drive, which is only about 2 games in total.

They cut the backwards compatibility to make it cheaper. Hopefully they'll make a version with it again soon since the blue ray is now a lot cheaper.

Well, of course. You bought a PS3. What did you expect? A fairly priced console that has many good games and backwards compatibility? Um, that's what the 360 is, not the PS3.
Hey, you had me up until 'many good games'

ah aha hahahah.

wait... since when does it not play PS2 games?
The new PS3 slim version doesn't have it... sad face :(
well... there go my plans for getting a PS3... that is the WORST development/marketing decision EVER in the games industry since the Virtual Boy.
I agree, and your comparison would be better put in the Atari 5200, they didn't have backwards compatibility and it failed on it's ass because of it (and the controller).

PS3 came out a powerful system with some minor qwerks and Sony demoted it quite a bit with that amputation. I have FAR more PS2 games than I do PS3 games, hell I like PS2 games more than most PS3 games but what do I know I'm just a customer. Either way glad I got the 60gb model when it came out because I'm not stuck.

That's what pissed me off about 360 and PS3 they started with BC, but then dropped it. You can play like 3 games on 360 from xbx 1 and a good portion of them have compatibility issues that they never addressed. I guess they figured as long as it played halo 1 and 2 they were set huh? As for PS3 it annoys me even more considering the VAST library they had prior to the PS3, but no one plays those anymore right? :p

I think these companies are forgetting just how popular their systems were previously. Even Nintendo did this with the DSi, and that kept me from even caring about the stupid system. GBA has a better list of games (to me anyway) than DS ever will and well I can't use that system for that now can I? Would have been nice with stereo and a larger screen.

You can likely pick up some of the older PS3's which do have backwards compatability on eBay or other second hand places, but really, your best bet is to just go buy a cheap PS2. S'what I did.
S'what ah did tew ;D

They focused on making ps3 slims for a while, then a load of fats started having all those errors, so they stopped making them.

I have both actually, but my problem isn't that it doesn't have backwords comp, it's that they took it away. (P.S.: 360 compatibility is a joke)

Cheap PS2 is the way to go. There are rumors about Sony making some emulation software in a unreleased firmware update but I wouldn't hold my breath for it. Not really knowing what kind of games you're into but if you are serious about Kingdom Hearts I'd advise both of them. The story in the second is more understandable if you played through the first. If you're a big RPG player I'd suggest Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria.
Sony already have this software developed, the used it on the 60gb fat PS3s in Europe (removing the physical emulator from the US/Japan version) so i dont see why they would choose now to reinstate this for slimlines and later fats...

My brother has the 60gb PS3 so i he can play older games on that but i just use a Slim PS2 and a Wii for my current gen gaming

Fuck Sony, i didnt find out the lack of backwards compatibility until after i tracked down and purchased Star wars battlefront II, Dark Cloud, And kingdom hearts. They can go hang themselves.

The don't even have ps2 greats avaliable for purchase online. They need to get their thumbs out of their asses.

360's BC isn't a joke, it's just not fucking there. The ONE game I got to work had some major flow breaking issues, it was Silent Hill 4, everyones faces would break apart when they talked. Sure the game plays but the whole mood of the game is destroyed because I can't watch the cutscenes. But they got halo 1 and 2 to work so I guess it's mission accomplished for them. Hell it doesn't even support Timesplitters, and that makes me sad.

Not everyone Wii plays all GameCube games out of the box, but thats just because the Wii is based on the GC hardware...

This is why I'm so glad that I bought an original 60GB PS3, the new ones don't have the same functionality as the older models. I'd go with what everyone else is suggesting, a slim PS2 should be pretty easy to get a hold of, and it'll be far cheaper than getting an older PS3 on eBay or the like. (Last I saw 60GB PS3s were going for nearly triple their original price, not sure on current figures though.)

Yeah, when the PS3 Slim was announced, Sony said that it WOULD NOT be backwards compatible because the first two generations of the PS3 have 2 separate lasers; one is for Blu-ray one is for everything else. When the Slim was developed they donned away with the normal laser to make PS3s cheaper to manufacture and, as aforementioned, will eventually have downloadable emulation software.

Buy a second generation PS3 for no more than $150. I've had mine for over 3 years, back when it was $400: it plays every possible disc, no matter how scratched. It plays AVIs, WMVs, MP3s, and every PS2 and PSX game.

Wow, I didn't know that. I thought they were still making both. Now if my ps3 ever breaks down I'm definately not gonna try to get sony to fix it, since they'll probably just give me a slim and take away all my saves.
