Ohhh, it's got a nice Devil may Cry rip off to be proud of.
My dislike for God of War aside I would do it. Nobody can knock the game line up any more, it's guaranteed to last you a good few years, and it has Tekken.
I don't consider God of War a Devil May Cry rip-off at all. They're completely different styles (well, maybe not completely different), but enough to keep them seperate. And why don't you like God of War? It's a fun game.

I thought that I could use it as a Blu-Ray player but Blu-Ray discs cost a lot more than DVDs, even rubbish old films that aren't really HD.
Actually, most of all movies are HD, in a way.

From a 35mm film, you could get much more resolution than what we call "HD", as long as there is a certain quality to it (Copy or Master, Amount of Film Grain, Method of Transfer etc).
Well said. The quality is all in the transfer. Even cheap celluloid film stock will always be better than cheap DV.

OP:

I think most people will end up buying a PS3 eventually, it's just a case of when you want to do it.

The PS3 has a good future but i don't think its worth the money know, since we are in a economic crisis maybe the price will go down and you can buy it cheaper than the current price.
but one thing i hate about PS3 is that its not backwards compatible.

Do you have an HDTV? If so yes. If not no.
Pretty much ... it's getting better with the games though :)

I regretted buying mine at first (got it for MGS4), but now I'm very happy I didn't sell it. Killzone 2 coming up and I enjoyed resistance 2 three times in a row. Awesome game that one.

The game library should speak for itself.

Before the PS3, I never really gave a crap about graphics. My game collection was dominated by DOOM and Perfect Dark; I always chose quality over looks.

However, the moment MGS4 began, something inside me came to the surface. The PS3 is stunning in the graphics department. Its games have wowed me in a way the likes of Gears 2 never have; I feel the PS3's visuals are on another level, especially when you're hooked up with a HMDI cable.

The PS3 has a strong title range, and it's going to get stronger. Every new wave of games produces something that makes even the most die-hard graphics whore weep; just check out Wipeout HD!

One of the major questions is "would I buy a PS3 just for Game X"? I bought a PS3 just for MGS4, but then I think most people around here know by now I despise the 360 to a level of hell so deep even Kratos, Leonidas and Doomguy combined can't get to it. However, a much more neutral friend of mine bought a PS3 solely for LittleBigPlanet. He'd have bought it for MGS4, but he realised he could 'borrow' my copy instead... so clearly, there are games on the PS3 that make it worth buying just to play them!

Some are. Last weekend my friend got his PS3, and it's a backwards compatible model (60GB).

Since u have a 360 already, it comes down to do u think blu-ray is worth the extra £5-10 & if the ps3's exclusive games justify £300 + £50-60/game. Imo it doesnt in either case but thats just me.

I've been pondering the same thing and as a multiplayer lover I have to ask what the PS3s community like? (as I'll be leaving the safety of party chat)
I'm sick of griefers and trash talking 12 year olds.

Yes. As long as you can afford it.

1. You already have the 360. It's not as if it's going to disappear once you buy a PS3. Nor does proximity to a PS3 cause the RROD. Once you get it, you'll have two different libraries to play from.

2. It has a game you want. An exclusive game. If you don't get it, you won't be able to play said game. Whether or not said game is worth it, only you can make that call, but if you want to play it, there you are.

3. The aforementioned second library. Not only do you get access to those retail titles, but there are also the original (or semi-original) PSN games, which, among original titles at least, tend to be excusives.

So yes, as long as you've got the scratch handy, go for it. The only people who complain about owning too many consoles are the Nintendo haters.
Those are all really good reasons. I myself own both and I use them both regularly. (I actually own 2 360's now, as one is currently at Xbox Repair for the RROD, and I couldn't wait so I went and bought another one.) I usually buy a game for the 360, then a game for the PS3 then back to the 360, etc. That way I get lots of playtime out of both systems.

They both have pros and cons... but usually more pros. If you have both, you get a really wicked combination of gaming console harmony. If you've got the money, go ahead. It IS worth it.

Also I'm not sure if they still make them or not, but I have a 60gb PS3 which is fully backwards compatible, so I also have a huge library of PS2, and PSX games along with my pretty large library of PS3 games.

YES. It's a great console, and even though I've stuck with a 360 for a majority of this console generation, the PS3 is a damn good console. It's got the best hardware of the three consoles, and the most media capabilities. And it plays Metal Gear Solid 4, Resistance 1 and 2, Motorstorm 1 and Pacific Rift, and soon..... Heavy Rain and God of War III.

Where are you seeing these games? £50-60? That store is a ripoff.
Today Street Fighter IV - £27 at Asda.

Oh, leave him be. He's one of those people who think Devil May Cry invented the genre, and thus any game in said genre is a ripoff.
Not really. God of War did copy Devil may Cry to an extent. A complete rip-off is a bit unfair, but if you get rid of Kratos and a style bar you have Devil may Cry.
How coincidental is it that both games use red orbs a currency? Or that both games have big red things blocking the exits while you kill the enemies?
You have to admit that there are a lot of similarities.

Besides if I was just talking about the genre I would have said Ninja Gaiden, I was instead talking about the similarities in game.

I have had a PS3 for a few months now and I have to say im a little dissapointed. Not with the console itself but by the lack of games for it. I recently traded in about 11 games which I had fully completed and the only 1 I kept was Assassins Creed which is the only one I could see myself possibly playing again.

I guess if there are some titles that you want then sure go for it, but my advise would be to maybe wait a few months before purchasing one because there might be a few more good games out and the console might also drop in price.

Thanks for all the fantastic feedback guys, keep it coming!

I'm curious, what cables will I need to buy along with the console, I already have an ethernet cable for my Xbox so that isn't a problem, I'm talking about HD related attachments and so on.

I was sorta in your dilema late last year. I had a Mac and no current gen consol (Wii aside). I went through and looked at both. Yes the PS3 is more expensive. But if you look at the TYPE of games you want to play, that may help. I love Motorstorm to death. It's such a fun game. If there are a good number of games that you want, then go for it. I probably won't get Killzone for a few months (crap internet where i'm at) but I plan on picking it up eventually.

As for the Movies: Amazon.com has sales ALL the time on stuff. Most of the Blu-Ray movies are down in the 13-19 US Dollar range now. That's a pretty good deal to me. I almost ordered Tropic Thunder because it was $15 one day.

Yes, lack of backward compatability sucks, but who doesn't have a PS2 lying around anyway?
