I prefer PS3 for the exclusives, but if you like the Halo series 360 it probably the way to go. Maybe find a friend with a PS3 and give some exclusives a shot, because IMO there's a massive difference in quality.

I bought a 360 for the halo series, however, now that that storm has blown over (don't get me started) there isn't much of a reason in my opinion to get a 360. Here me out, The PS3 has free PSN where as you need to pay for XBL. Also the price on the PS3 has come down since it first came out and the game selection available to the PS3 has improved in leaps and bounds in recent years, which was another thing that held the PS3 back when it first came out. Finally the PS3 has better hardware. Also unless I am mistaken the PS3 has better backwards compatability tha the 360 does (you can play the old PS1 and PS2 games on it); and you can't forget the built in blue ray player.
The only complaint that might apply to you is that since your only other game system is the Wii you should know that the other systems are targeted at a much more mature audience so the game selection for the 360 and the PS3 will contain much less kid friendly titles, this is more true for the PS3 than for the 360; so if that matters to you then now you know. So unless you really want to play the 360 exclusives (halo, gears of war, etc) I say go with a PS3. Hope this helps.

Good day to you all. I have been saving money for a time and now i would like to use it on a new console, (i only have a Wii) but i don't really know what console i should buy. PS3 has good hardware, (that's what my buddies told me) but i really, REALLY like the Halo Series.(not that i think that you are stupid, but here's a link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halo_(series) link end) and i also know that most of the games are released for PS3 AND 360, (and soon, ((probably)) for Wii U, too) like Crysis 2, but is there a diffrence? I know that the PS network is free, and that XBLA costs, but is XBLA safer? PLEASE, share your thoughts and personal experience!
It really all comes down to what you like. If you like the Halo series, go with the 360.

The newer PS3s can't play PS2 games.

i'd have to say nintendo has the best exclusives

but the xbox 360 controller i wish i could play everything with that wonderful controller

i own a xbox and wii so i would say buy the 360, ill buy a PS3 used for 99$ to play the one game i want to on it.

by the way if people are bugging you on xbox live mute the buggers. and if you get annoyed so easily your the immature one.

and no one really knows if xbox live could be hacked so easily i bet i cant its made by microsoft if there not spending some of there billion on security well ill be very upset.

also halo reach is the best first person shooter ever, im a bit worried about halo 4 but many of bungies members stayed in 343 so maybe they have a idea that could elevate halo even more (or it could be a big disaster) then ill go back to playing fighting games and jrpg's

Its not a flame war, its just if you are going to make a point against the other console, make a sensible and factual one, otherwise you're no more correct then someone coming in and saying "360s are bricks that suffer from RRODs all the time, LIVE is EXPEEENNNNSSSSIVEEEE and the games are JUST HALOZ, TROLOLOLOLOLOL"

That isn't an opinion, thats someone making a statement and its trolling, worst part still, its a heavy statement that carries no factual weight.

there are great games for both systems so it can be hard to chose

Hello there. I can't truly give a completely balanced opinion as I only have a 360. Anyway, here goes.

In the wake of the PSN attack, the PS3 will be much safer - and you can bet that there probably was a review of Xbox Live's security too - so I'm inclined to say both are now as safe as the other.

I'm a bit sceptical of the 'PS3 has better graphics' argument, as looking at comparisons between games released on both consoles, sometimes the ps3 looks better, sometimes there's no visible difference and sometimes the PS3 looks worse (not sure if this is down to hardware or bad porting).

Well, i love the 360 controller, (it feels so good in my hands! xD) and the 360 has some good exclusives... and i don't really want a Blu Ray, i think Dvd quality is good enough.
It sounds like you should probably get a 360 since you like the controller, are interested in Halo and arn't bothered about Blu Ray. Paying for Live is a mark against a 360 but it's not that much really, assuming you buy it by the year. Good luck with whatever you decide to buy. :)

It really does come down to what you want to play. I have a PS3, but i have played the 360 enough to know that i am glad i picked the PS. I think Microsoft has fixed the RROD problem but i am not entirely sure. I DO know that only one out of six of my 360 owning friends have not had the problem. I did have to replace the laser assembly in my PS3 6 months ago, after 3 years of use. Your mileage may vary. Multi-player is not really my thing, so the PSN being down was not a big deal for me.

Point is, look at how (single player or online or both) you are going to play AND what you are going to play. Someone also mentioned the controller feel, YOU will be holding that thing in your hands for a good long time. Both systems have some amazing title exclusives, which do YOU want to play more?

Well I own both, and both have their own use: (this list is my personal observations on the consoles)

Xbox360
Pro's:
+good online multilayer service
+Controller is suited for FPS's
+Cheaper
+Includes headset

Con's:
-Need to pay for online play
-Netflix needs Xbox Live Gold

PS3
Pro's:
+Can play blue-ray disc's
+Good exclusives
+Free online play
+does not need extra fees for Netflix
+has a web browser

Con's:
-Does not come with a headset
-You need to buy an HDMI/Component cable with it

The headset thing is important, since the PS3 does not come with one most people don't have it. You could probably categorize it as both a pro and a con, depending on what type of people you want to talk with. If you want to use Netflix on your Xbox you need a Gold ubscription, on the PS3 you only have to pay for Netflix itself. However the PS3 consts more, well at least it did for me. Like others have pointed out the only exclusives on the Xbox is Gears, Halo, and Fable.
The PS3 has Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, Demons Souls, God of War, LittleBigPlanet, and Killzone.

In the end I would recommend the Xbox360 if you play mainly online, and the PS3 if you mainly play singleplayer. It also depends on what console you friends have if you want to play online.

Ps, The Wii would be crap, but there is a shining beacon of light in the pile of shovel ware: Monster Hunter 3 Tri. If you own a Wii without this game, your doing it wrong. You also lost the game.

I have both :D.

But if i could only play one system, i would say Xbox 360. Mostly because i find the user interface to be much easier to get into and have a much better online experience.

But you can't go wrong either one.

PS3 - Better and more exclusives. Better graphics. Bluray. No online fees. No ads. Diff in multiplats is greatly exaggerated.

360 - Kinect. Online costs, but still has ads. Gears. Halo.

Not to repeat almost everything that was said cause we all have good points and it comes down to what u want in a machine. However if your the kinda person that has to save up for a while and expects years of fun of whatever u drop your hard earned cash into then i would reccomend the ps3 over the 360. It just feels like it will have a longer life span the way things are heading. And im pretty sure history will repeat itself.. same thing happened when it was ps2 and xbox. Xbox come out first...has awesome things.. few years down the road gamers get older,M$ titles get boring and repetative, ps puts out better titles. PS "wins"

Hm... both have their pros and cons, however something else to take into consideration is this:

You are saving up money for a new console, yet these are... what? 5-6 years old?

The next generation should be comming somewhat soon - a year or so according to rumours (feel free to correct me if I am wrong).

The graphics on both are good, stunning, and can easily stand the test of time, but they have already lasted for long and are reaching their limits.

Not that you will end up disappointed buying either but, consider this; If you have lasted this long without either of the consoles, maybe wait another year, and be one of the first for the next generation consoles with the saved up money, rather than sit around with one of two old consoles (both sill excelent in their own aspects), but still old and replaced not long after you have bought it.

That is just my two cents on this subject really, best of luck with your decision.

putting your credit card details anywhere is never safe, someone can always hack it
the interesting thing is when Microsoft got hacked, nobody cared but apparently for sony it's suddenly a big deal

in terms of graphical power it's pretty-much apples and pears, the consoles are much of a muchness and if you can tell the difference without holding them next to each other and forwarding frame by frame, then kudos to you because i cant

really seems to come down to:
which controller you prefer, do you want a blu-ray player, do you intend to upgrade the hard-drive, and which console exclusives do you want to play?

my HONEST opinion is get a gaming pc if you don't own one, because it's fairly late in the console generation to sink cash into a console, when you can make an equivalent pc on the cheap and you then always have the option to upgrade it when the new consoles launch so you can keep pace with the latest games
however if you 'really' want a console i'd be biased toward the ps3 because of the blu-ray, the ability to stick nice fast hard-drives or ssd's in it and have near instant load times

do what you want, and don't let anyone tell you it was a bad decision there isn't a bad choice here, they're all good gaming options.

Playstation has the better exclusives, plus it has the free online play. I assume you own a PC so you could just get Halo on that if you like it that much.

Just ignore the people who mention the PSN hack, Lulzsec could have just as easily infiltrated the X-Box live thingamajig if they had decided to.
yes but sony never encrypted their user info something Microsoft Nintendo and pretty much every game company does which was a drastic oversight on Sony part and in my eyes just laziness for the hacking part well sony was infiltrated with hacking techniques that a 10 year could learn lulzsec even said that

as for the hacking part i say lulzsec tried and failed because if theirs one company in the world that has experience stopping hacks leaks etc its Microsoft but nothing is hack impermeable so they could get hacked as the pentagon and the cia found out

i will agree with you that the ps3 has good exclusives

I completely agree with that. Party chat has been something that the ps3 has needed for ages and still does not have. Very sad indeed.

I'll merely state a fact that I have experienced. From 2005 - 2009 eight 360's had been in my possession, all of which were in ideal environments and conditions, before I purchased a ps3. I still have that same ps3.

So, in my experience and again let me emphasis that these machines were in ideal conditions and environments the same as the ps3, I went through 2 360's / yr. My first ps3 has lasted three years.

Take that as you will. I'm very tired of arguing that the machines are failures. I love the games on the 360, but I can't justify purchasing something that will inevitably fail.
