I want to hear actual legit reasons for not liking one platform or the other. (No Bashing)
I don't want to hear about the "Red Ring of Death" or the "Yellow Light of Doom"
I want sensible and civil responses that won't start a flame war.
Honestly people, I'm asking for honest opinions. No one has the right to start talking smack about another gamers opinion.

For instance, I don't dislike the XBox as a system, but I do dislike the controller. To me it's uncomfortable and awkward. Also the Xbox has a large catalog of FPS's I can't stand FPS's.
But I am a bit jealous because the Xbox does have a larger catalog of RPG's in it's roster and I truly enjoy me a good RPG.

See everyone....isn't this easy?!?

Honestly, good luck with that.
A few people will come in and make good points about their favourite console and then leave it at that. Others will just be asshats over it and flame everyone. It is the way of the internet, sadly. Not saying that it will happen, just saying there's a chance.

OT: I can't say as I don't know much about the PS 3's games and such, being a 360 person myself and to comment on such matters would be talking about something which I don't know about, which I try and avoid.

Flame wars are not generally caused by the OP, it's caused by the retards that follow.

But OK I'll bite.

If I had to choose between PS3 and 36, I'd probably end up choosing the PS3, due to it having my favourite series (Ratchet and clank) it being a single player friendly system, and that I'm more fammilliar to the controller layout.

That being said, the controller is a good size for my hands when I was 9 not, now. I have Man Hands (Cookie for reference)

You'll need it...
OT: I like the Xbox because it's really the only console I've tried. the controller is comfortable and the exclusives are pretty gewd.

Sigh.
PS3.
I have always had Sony systems, and so I am very familiar with the controller layout.
It has free online play, a big plus over the 360.
It plays Blu-Ray movies.
It reminds me of the Monolith from 2001

I have a PS3, but I don't play it often, I prefer PC.

My main reasons for choosing a PS3 were the 360s massive library of FPS and FPS gaming focus (like yourself I can't stand most FPS notable exceptions to System Shock/2, Bioshock and Timesplitters)

And I know Sony makes generaly reliable hardware, and I did not feel like paying for online that I already pay my ISP for.

Yes my friend by posting this it shall surely become one.

OT: Most will just see which has more options suitable to their needs. If you'd like to know these do some research, believe me youl be glad you did. Especially since counsels cost a hefty sum, secondly you should just go on your own opinion since you might be lured by some one elses. Go to a friend try the Xbox, then try a PS3 then buy one. This is what these all these kinds of topics come to in the end.

Yeah, I have a good feeling this will end in a flame war. Honestly this is more of a social experiment. I want to see how well people can follow directions and remain civil even while reading potentially negative criticism about something they enjoy.

I only have an Xbox at the moment but I am getting a PS3 for Christmas and I have played on a friends PS3. I think each system has or had it's issues such as the build quality of the Xbox and the formerly high price of the PS3. However I think that the consoles are both great and are also extremely similar, what truly matters is the games and both consoles have great exclusives. I personally prefer the library of the PS3 although it may be a case of the grass being greener on the other side. (at least until Christmas)

I dislike paying subscription fees to play online. Plus I can live without Halo and Gears of War 2, but I can't live without Metal Gear Solid.

They both have merits, but the PS3 is just not for me, personally. I guess it's because of the exclusives, but it's more because, of all my friends, only one has a PS3, and he also has a 360. In other words, if I want to play with friends online, a 360 is my best bet.

The reason I bought an Xbox over a PS3 is purely economical; it was what all my friends had, and a large part of the reason I was purchasing a "next-gen" console to begin with was to reap the benefits of online play with friends.

I can see how you would think I'm trolling. That's not my intention. I don't want a flame war to start in the least bit. I would however like to see a topic like this be discussed in a mature manner without a flame war brewing. So far, everyone is playing along. It's not so bad is it?

Well, I like FPS' and Western RPGs, plus the Xbox 360 came out first. And the PS3's games don't really interest me that much.

(NOT A FLAME WAR!!!)
Well that changes EVERYTHING!

Thanks for pointing that out, I'm sure the anonymous denizens of the internet will be COMPLETELY civil about this now.

EDIT: BTW, I like the 360 better because I think its online support is better than PS3's to the point where even though PSN is free, I would rather pay for Xbox Live, I also like the games that come out for the 360 more, a good number of them have been making their way to the PS3 lately, but who wants a game a week/month/year late? Those two reasons made me choose 360 (also the PS3 initial price tag was kind of a ***** slap).

I can save you time on that experiment.

They won't remain civil.

Case closed.

Also, you are testing how well people can "remain civil and follow directions" but the problem is that nobody here has any sort of reason to follow your directions, it may sound rude, but it's true, to everyone here you are just "Con Carne, nameless entity with the red armchair avatar"

Why would anyone restrain themselves because you said so with three exclamation points?
(I am not trying to be rude, but think about it, I think you'll realize what I'm saying is true)

What this one up here said. Oh well, atleast it's on the escapist, probably the most civilised forum on the web.

According to your own posts this is a: "Social experiment to see if this will become a flame war, and you fully expect it will probably end with a non-civil flame war"

so if I get this right (Don't worry, I do, it's pretty black and white) you posted a controversial topic as a "social experiment" (direct quote) to see if it would end in a flame war and you: "I have a good feeling this will end in a flame war.".

You:

Posted something to see if it would make a flame war as an "experiment" and you expect it will.

Troll:

Posts something meant to brew controversy (one form of which is a flame war)

Yeah...sounds exactly like a troll to me, and if it posts like a troll, admits it expects a
flame war like a troll, and says "I am not a troll" like a troll, it's a troll.

Reported. (guess what for? Being a troll)
