What a positively important post! This discussion has literally NEVER happened before, on the Escapist or indeed the entire internet! I've never heard any arguments for either system! I see no reason that this will turn into one of those 'flame wars' I keep hearing about!

I want to hear actual legit reasons for not liking one platform or the other. (No Bashing)
I don't want to hear about the "Red Ring of Death" or the "Yellow Light of Doom"
I want sensible and civil responses that won't start a flame war.
Honestly people, I'm asking for honest opinions. No one has the right to start talking smack about another gamers opinion.

For instance, I don't dislike the XBox as a system, but I do dislike the controller. To me it's uncomfortable and awkward. Also the Xbox has a large catalog of FPS's I can't stand FPS's.
But I am a bit jealous because the Xbox does have a larger catalog of RPG's in it's roster and I truly enjoy me a good RPG.

See everyone....isn't this easy?!?
No one has the right to start talking smack, but you have the right to use the escapist as your own little disaster scenario experimental playground?

That's sodding ridiculous.

(Crap, I've been playing WAY too much Dragon Age, I'm starting to use Dwarven swear words...I should probably see a doctor)

I don't really understand why threads like this exist. You could easily just look up the pros and cons of both systems without risking the inevitable flame war. That said, I have a 360 and I'd say I'm happy with it (even though the last one died twice). Both consoles have their strong points and it just comes down what you want when it comes to a system. Personally, I based my decision off of the exclusive titles for both systems at the time and just the games they had in general because that's all that really mattered to me.

they both have their great games and features.

i like how the PS3 is more tech friendly, but i like the 360 online better. each one is give and take, it depends on what you like.

When you have to put in the title that the topic is not a flame war, its gonna be a flame war!

O/T: I bought the PS3 cause of the RROD for xbox and PS3 had Ratchet and Clank!

Better games. Much better controller. Thats why the 360 is the best, when it decides it wants to be a game console and start playing games.

I find the 360 controller pretty good for most things. Though it sucks for Tekken and Street Fighter. Erm, in terms of technological rubbish, the PS3 wins hands down, but the catalogue of games and the whole online thing would lean in favour of the 360. So really, it all depends what you want to play. I play the 360 most, but then we have MGS4 and Little Big Planet and the blu ray playing goodness with the PS3 too. So think about what you're using it for and then consider what would best suit your needs.

On another note; man you people get pissed off easily. It's not even offensive. Eeeeesh.

i dont know if the figure is still accurate but the 360 in the uk has a failure rate of about 60% and the ps3 only goes into yellow light of death if you dont clean it or vac out the insides or if it is the fist gen

I chose neither, I choose a PC. But if I had to choose a console, I'd say... fuck, I really can't choose. They seem so similar to me. I guess its just about personal taste.
Why not choose N64?

I've got both and prefer my Xbox. It has more games that I consider must haves, and MUCH better online service (which is definitely worth £40 a year).
The PS3 is a quality bluray player (love the bluetooth bluray remote as well) and it has a few good games, but I've only had one since August and it's already failed twice (well, technically once, because it's the refurb that failed the second time almost eating a Bluray disk in the process).

Oh, and this:

I don't understand the words you are saying. The PS3 controller is identical to the PS1 controller. I remember after a few hours of playing Metal Gear Solid back in the day my hand would be in cramps from the controller. I can't use it for more than a couple of hours before my hands starts to cramp.

I don't get cramps from my Xbox controller. Hell, I didn't get any from either of the controllers on the original Xbox either (black and white buttons were oddly placed though). The Xbox 360 controller, for me, is perfection.

Yeah, see, this is where the flames start. It goes from the more subtle opinions about how they prefer a certain console, then comes the people stating their favorite like it's a fact. Do not ignite the fire my friend, it will only lead to trouble.

Nonononono, stop that right now. It's fine if you say what you enjoy the most, but when you start to question other peoples opinions, you are starting the flames. We do not want a flame war.

I'm pretty sure the failure rates also include the first shipments of 360's, which had faulty hardware. The updated versions are fixed.

It's not like I'm telling him he's wrong, merely stating that I don't understand why he holds that opinion. Same as if I told a Creationist that I can't understand why he doesn't believe in evolution. I'd just expect a reasonable answer as to why. :)

I can tolerate the PS3 controller because of the games that I can only play on that system. But the Xbox 360 controller must have been designed by the gods because it never hurts my hands.

Well that changes EVERYTHING!

Thanks for pointing that out, I'm sure the anonymous denizens of the internet will be COMPLETELY civil about this now.

EDIT: BTW, I like the 360 better because I think its online support is better than PS3's to the point where even though PSN is free, I would rather pay for Xbox Live, I also like the games that come out for the 360 more, a good number of them have been making their way to the PS3 lately, but who wants a game a week/month/year late? Those two reasons made me choose 360 (also the PS3 initial price tag was kind of a ***** slap).
So you would rather buy a cheaper system but pay more in the long run? In just two payments you have already payed more than a 120gb ps3 slim would cost.

(Just based off info I have quickly searched for on the net, so I am not sure if it's accurate)
