My laptop's nice. But it was pretty expensive. Hopefully it'll last me long enough in the long term that it'll make up for the price (in comparison with console prices, replacements, controllers, costlier games e.t.c.)

I figured this already a flamewar thread

well MS said that it sold 50 million 360, but how many of them got the rrod?
Also, not forgetting this.

RROD is so 2006, this is the new RROD in a exciting new flavour of bullshit.

I should know, I'm a victim of this crap.

How does Sony's algorithmic math calculation work this one out? Clarification would be appreciated.
Slightly more Xbox 360 consoles sold than PS3

Buuut

Way higher proportion of those are RROD/Broken/hacked'n'banned

Think about it, didn't at one point Xbox 360 have a 40% failure rate, and if it failed outside warranty you needed to buy a new one? How many people just didn't know about the extended warranty and bought a new 360, that is how there can be more 360s out there but fewer people using them online. Also is Microsoft actually including replacement consoles as "sales"?

There are other things standing in the way of 360 forming as large a userbase:

-internet connection is not required to for any offline features, updates on new game discs.
-internet connection had (till 360 Slim) a higher barrier as people needed to figure out plugging in a CAT-5 cable or buy an extra wi-fi adapter.
-Many people turned off online altogether with all the good stuff behind the premium XBL Gold Membership that many don't want to pay for.

PS3's user numbers would also be inflated as:
-it is VERY easy to make multiple accounts on PS3, I actually made one by accident
-PS3 is a very popular multi-media device, but highly encourages user logging in online even if you just want to play a blu-ray
-err
-that's it (I'm sure there's more but i forgot)

TL:DR

at the end of the day the only thing that matters is the actual games quality and PC is better at that than either so neener neener neeee-neeerr :D

Well, it's nice to see PS3s are more popular in Europe.
I like the PS3 a lot more, it's vastly superior in software and the hardware is pretty equal, though 360 has better online. If you're not in the US the 360 is pretty worthless. I'm glad PS3's getting the recognition it deserves.
I'm also not surprised the PS3 has more active users, given the Blu-ray player.

This is also the same reason why the PS2 became the highest selling console ever. I've never known anyone who hadn't needed to replace theirs at least once.
My PS2 works just fine. It wasn't the slime version, it was the old one, and it was bought used. I still play SW:Battlefront 2 with my friends.

The console must be like 8 years old now...
Best game evar!!

On xbox number 2, first one didnt break but I did trade it in for the slim when it came out (bought both new for fear of RROD/E74).
Also, on the Ps2 note, mine broke a year or two ago while playing FFXII. Never good when you hear you PS2 'fat' go pop and everything turn off. I had to use plyers to get the game out. Still haven't gotten a new one.

Woo one random bit of technologies sales number are higher than the others! Seriously this shouldn't make any difference to anything (unless you work for Sony/Mincrosoft and are dependant on how well Xbox/PS3 Sales are for salery or something.)

Me and my fraind just dusted off his onld PS2 (Fat) and fired it up for the first time in 4 years. Popped in Battlefront 2.
OH THE NOSTALGIA. We sorta grew up playing that, I remember spending many weekends parked infront of his T.V playing that game.
Me too, I was going to play it the other month but then I couldn't find my old PS2. I will find it though, only for that game. It's too damn good not to have a sequel!!!

Fair point, They did add a 3 year warranty onto them though...
so... 2-3 xboxes per user then? easy way to get to 50 million
Not all Xbox's are replaced, most are fixed. Also, userbase.... not sales, if that's what your getting at.
They replaced my 360, they sent a note attached to the xbox saying they couldn't fix the problem and sent me a new one. Tape to the top of the xbox was a 1 month. That was for my 2nd RRoD, my first RRoD warranty expired and they wanted 100$ to fix it.

If his PS2 wouldn`t have worked, we would have bought one from a local gamestop for dirt cheap :p. `Tis a shame that they snuffed out the sequel. Imagine a space battle in GLORIOUS HD. It would be.... be..... orgasmic.
Wanna help me buy the licence?

My model bought in 2001 works like a charm after 10 years (and I still use it regularly). I realise I'm probably in a minority, but hey nice to meet you!

Oh, goodie. One flamewar ends and another comes and replaces it almost the next day.

If anyone happens to be wondering I bought my PS3 on launch day and its still working perfectly.

EDIT: Oh and...
i'm still looking into buying a PS3, so far i have 2 360s but i was worried about the PS3 fat's YLOD, is it something i should worry about?
My fat PS3 has done nothing but work as directed scince buying, but there was the original fat ones then the cut down fat ones.

Still according to its Wikipedia page the PS3 has had, at worst, a 10% failure rate (In 2009). Not including the leap-year bug.

Id say that buying an unboxed fat PS3 is safe, a used one however, might be different.
is it just the normal risk of buying used or is it buying used from an unlicensed retailer that's bad?
