How does Sony's algorithmic math calculation work this one out? Clarification would be appreciated.

Fair point, They did add a 3 year warranty onto them though...

so... 2-3 xboxes per user then? easy way to get to 50 million

Jesus...

This is also the same reason why the PS2 became the highest selling console ever. I've never known anyone who hadn't needed to replace theirs at least once.

Not all Xbox's are replaced, most are fixed. Also, userbase.... not sales, if that's what your getting at.

This both confuses and excited me. But I like the way the statistics work out. I like it a lot. But then again I'm sure there will be people who don't like these figures. Either way sales and user base don't make a lick of difference to how good your console is...

Sooo... PS3 wins in both categories!

I said it!

LET THE FLAME WAR BEGIN!

Never needed to replace mine. Not once.

As for PS3 - I lol'd. The Xbox is finally nearing the end of its life and only just now the PS3 takes over?
Neither can exactly be proud of their hardware quality either.

"if this generation has proven anything it's that multiple console skus can now exist in harmony because the gaming demographic has widened so massively."
I think the whole point is moot really. How many of those owners have both the 360 and the PS3? 360 was well ahead in the console race against Sony's fat console, since the PS3 only had like 2 good games at first. But now I think it's pretty even.

Oh, goodie. One flamewar ends and another comes and replaces it almost the next day.

If anyone happens to be wondering I bought my PS3 on launch day and its still working perfectly.

EDIT: Oh and...

I guess this means online players, can't see any other way (that I'm comfortable with) they could measure this

My first PS2 still lasted for four years before i had to replace it. I still have the slim one i replaced it with. Somewhere.

Its also worth noting that i also have a funtioning Sega Master System lying around somewhere too. Im a pack rat for things that still work.

Don't worry about my 360. I pray every day to the machine spirit, and burn for it a special incense. This makes it so that my electronics don't fail.

Trust me, I'm a tech priest.

You do realise that Microsoft wants the 360 to keep going for another 5 years, that was supposedly one of the ideas behind Kinect :/

It's all right here: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/101511-Microsoft-Looks-to-Kinect-to-Extend-360-Lifespan
