This is also the same reason why the PS2 became the highest selling console ever. I've never known anyone who hadn't needed to replace theirs at least once.
Units sold, not units shipped.irishdude said:well MS said that it sold 50 million 360, but how many of them got the rrod?
I lol'd at the fact that you have a Fallout avatar considering how bad the PS3 is as a platform in relation to multi-platform games. Fallout especially.ComprehensiveGoo said:It was only a matter of time... Viva la revolution!

Sigh...i went through 3 and now have one of the new kinect models, in edition to having a dead elite, but that is a dvd drive issue. Also factor in that at one time ps3 was one of the least expensive bluray players on the market, and many households have them primarily for movies.fenderstrat said:so... 2-3 xboxes per user then? easy way to get to 50 millionAphex Demon said:Fair point, They did add a 3 year warranty onto them though...irishdude said:well MS said that it sold 50 million 360, but how many of them got the rrod?
You seriously haven't heard of the PS2 Disc Read Error fiasco? Early PS2s were about as reliable as early 360s. Okay maybe that's not a fair comparison, but the point is, a lot of early PS2s stopped working.vrbtny said:To quote the thread title -- Wait, What?
I've had my PS2 since.... like, well, forever, and it hasn't broken down. None of my friends broke either, one got a slim after he (Purposefully, full of rage) broke his original. So I am a little confused by your statement...
Yea it's true that people like to overlook the PS3 bricking. Microsoft gives you 3 extra years of warranty Sony bricks your shit and that's your problem. That's like Sony comes to your house smacks you does your mother in front of you then when you cry out why Sony. Sony says "We Sony *****... Sony".gigastar said:My fat PS3 has done nothing but work as directed scince buying, but there was the original fat ones then the cut down fat ones.Azaraxzealot said:i'm still looking into buying a PS3, so far i have 2 360s but i was worried about the PS3 fat's YLOD, is it something i should worry about?gigastar said:Oh, goodie. One flamewar ends and another comes and replaces it almost the next day.
If anyone happens to be wondering I bought my PS3 on launch day and its still working perfectly.
EDIT: Oh and...

Still according to its Wikipedia page the PS3 has had, at worst, a 10% failure rate (In 2009). Not including the leap-year bug.
Id say that buying an unboxed fat PS3 is safe, a used one however, might be different.
My PS3 has never bricked, therefore it is not my problem either. It also turns out most of the bricked PS3's had some kind of custom hardware installed. Sony doesnt design its software updates for theese things. And Microsoft would probably ban you for it.Donbett1974 said:Yea it's true that people like to overlook the PS3 bricking.
