I think their math kinda works out on this one, I've had 3 360's neither of the old two work so they werent passed on. figure if only 1 in a 1000 are in my situation that still adds up to alot of unused consoles occupying the tech graveyard somewhere however original 60gb ps3 (with a 320 laptop hard drive replacement) still sitting above my new black slim model (mocking it and taking its lunch money)

well MS said that it sold 50 million 360, but how many of them got the rrod?
Fair point, They did add a 3 year warranty onto them though...
so... 2-3 xboxes per user then? easy way to get to 50 million

Jesus...

This is also the same reason why the PS2 became the highest selling console ever. I've never known anyone who hadn't needed to replace theirs at least once.
To quote the thread title -- Wait, What?

I've had my PS2 since.... like, well, forever, and it hasn't broken down. None of my friends broke either, one got a slim after he (Purposefully, full of rage) broke his original. So I am a little confused by your statement...

This isn't really surprising to me. The Xbox 360 had a headstart, which meant the PS3's technology is a year more advanced. The 360's big advantage was the compatibility with programs made for PC, but Sony managed to secure some nice exclusives.

I still like my 360.

They're both great systems, although i'm surprised PS3's are selling as well with Sony cutting out features so often. Getting rid of backwards compatibility (for ps2), Install OS option, SD/memory stick ports, and even that beautiful glossy finish. I hope my original never breaks because then i'd have to either find a very old used one or spring for a new model and try to find a PS2 somewhere

Also can someone explain why an update for a 360 game is usually 5mb max and every playstation game seems to be 100mb minimum?

It was only a matter of time... Viva la revolution!
I lol'd at the fact that you have a Fallout avatar considering how bad the PS3 is as a platform in relation to multi-platform games. Fallout especially.

Sigh...i went through 3 and now have one of the new kinect models, in edition to having a dead elite, but that is a dvd drive issue. Also factor in that at one time ps3 was one of the least expensive bluray players on the market, and many households have them primarily for movies.

In my life I've bought a PS, PS2, PSP, GameBoy Colour and an Xbox 360. Not a single one of them has ever needed to be serviced, let alone outright replaced.

Wtf are people doing with their consoles to have so many break on them? Is it a power wattage thing and I just happen to live in a country with a surprisingly decent power station? Is it the lack of minus freezing temperatures ever? I'm really amazed by the numbers people are putting out here for second/third consoles. :/

Edit: They all still work perfectly fine might I add

I've got a better question: who cares? Why is this important? Both platforms have healthy sales or active userbase or whatever nonsense people want to go by in this dick measuring contest. Does it really matter which one has that extra 16th of an inch? Nobody is "winning" here... Well, more like nobody is losing here. So again, who cares?

You seriously haven't heard of the PS2 Disc Read Error fiasco? Early PS2s were about as reliable as early 360s. Okay maybe that's not a fair comparison, but the point is, a lot of early PS2s stopped working.

Plus, I lost count of how many times we sent our PS2 to Sony for repairs and they sent it back without fixing it. Or sure, it'd work for a week or two, but then it would die again. All they had to do was juts actually fix it, or give us a refurbished model that had been fixed, but no, they just kept sending us back the same broken console back over and over. Oh, and don't let me forget to mention that Sony's not repairing our PS2 took about a month each time. Then we replaced it with a PS2 slim and had to do the power brick exchange thing because there was just a slight defect in the slim power bricks that MIGHT cause them to catch fire and burn your house down.

Yeah, I personally wouldn't bring up the PS2 as an example of a reliable console with reliable service provided by the manufacturer. In fact, I'd say that the PS2 was one of the least reliable pieces of gaming hardware I've ever owned.

Oh, goodie. One flamewar ends and another comes and replaces it almost the next day.

If anyone happens to be wondering I bought my PS3 on launch day and its still working perfectly.

EDIT: Oh and...
i'm still looking into buying a PS3, so far i have 2 360s but i was worried about the PS3 fat's YLOD, is it something i should worry about?
My fat PS3 has done nothing but work as directed scince buying, but there was the original fat ones then the cut down fat ones.

Still according to its Wikipedia page the PS3 has had, at worst, a 10% failure rate (In 2009). Not including the leap-year bug.

Id say that buying an unboxed fat PS3 is safe, a used one however, might be different.
Yea it's true that people like to overlook the PS3 bricking. Microsoft gives you 3 extra years of warranty Sony bricks your shit and that's your problem. That's like Sony comes to your house smacks you does your mother in front of you then when you cry out why Sony. Sony says "We Sony *****... Sony".

My PS3 has never bricked, therefore it is not my problem either. It also turns out most of the bricked PS3's had some kind of custom hardware installed. Sony doesnt design its software updates for theese things. And Microsoft would probably ban you for it.
