Sony is offering extensions on top of the 1-year manufacturer's warranty that comes with the console when you buy it. Plans are:

PS3 ? 1-year extension ($44.99) or 2-year extension ($59.99)
PSP ? 1-year extension ($29.99) or 2-year extension ($39.99)
PSP Accidental Damage ? 1-year ($39.99) or 2-year ($49.99)

The price isn't bad, considering you are out $150 if the warranty ran out and it bricks.

Made the thread to inform ps3 owners. Will you buy it? I have till September to decide so I haven't made a decision yet.

Just thought I'd come on here and point out that MS's 3 year warranty is free. But, live you have to pay for. You win some, you lose some.

No, my warranty ran out two years ago, and my PS3 was replaced within that period. Hopefully it doesn't die again.

That's pretty dumb... Why not just do a free extension like the XBOX? What you'd pay for to get an extension on your PS3 warranty, you could use to pay a year of XBL..

Hmm.. How odd.

Its difficult to get that extension if you don't own it.

No thanks.

I bought the ps3 because it's a lot less likely to break then a certain competitor.

Besides, if it does break, I'm not going to send it back to the idiots who made it, I'll bring it to someone who can fix it, for that price actually.

I could've actually gotten the same deal at the store where I bout it and that would've been more convenient: just bring it in and swap it out.

Bought mine 3 years ago, and have yet to find a problem with it. So no I wont buy it if my current one dies.

only a one year warranty? that's pretty crappy isn't it?

then again, a year is a long time for modern consoles.

And a custom gaming PC has no warranty. Though you can crack it open and fix it, which is fun. I love getting my hands dirty. Speaking of which, I should open the old girl up and clean out the dust.

I missed out again.

Already bought the Walmart extended warranty with the Slim for $19.88.

Covers it for 2 years starting after Sony's warranty ends (which is the first year), and covers Power Surges, Normal Wear and Tear, Mechanical/Electrical Failure, Environmental factors, and defects in material & workmanship.

Should of held out for Sony's wonderful deal.

I've had my PS3 for 3 years and haven't gotten a single problem, no thanks.

And if it were to break down, I probably wouldn't buy a new one soon. In fact, whenever they release a PS4 I'm most likely not going to buy it as in the last 2 years, I've been playing way more games on my PC then on my PS3.

Any good economist (i.e. Clark Howard) will tell you that paying for an extended warantee on any electronics is a waste of money.

Was it really of uptmost relevance to a thread on a new extended warranty for ps3 users, that an xbox has a free 3 year warranty?

-.-

No, not really relevant... just mild trolling. I realize that this warranty was only offered after the whole RROD debacle, but when comparing a new Elite to a new PS3, MS still has the better warranty.

I truly hate Sony...
I love my ps3 but let's be honest, how reliable is that thing?
My ps3 died 6 times! In one year! After that year, Sony just said: "Sorry, your warranty is expired. You could be 150 euros and have us fix it." They were supposed to do that the last 6 times! Bloody hell, if something pisses me off it's bull like that. Eventually I bought a used ps3 at my local retailer for about 120 euros. You know what? It broke, 1 month after I bought it. That was today. I'm going to buy an AK-47 one day and pay SCEE a visit...

My PC disagrees.
