I truly hate Sony...
I love my ps3 but let's be honest, how reliable is that thing?
My ps3 died 6 times! In one year! After that year, Sony just said: "Sorry, your warranty is expired. You could be 150 euros and have us fix it." They were supposed to do that the last 6 times! Bloody hell, if something pisses me off it's bull like that. Eventually I bought a used ps3 at my local retailer for about 120 euros. You know what? It broke, 1 month after I bought it. That was today. I'm going to buy an AK-47 one day and pay SCEE a visit...
You should consider taking better care of your PS3 because this is the first I've heard of such an incident. I've had my PS3 since launch and it hasn't had a single problem at all, hell I even lug it around in a backpack to friend's houses and such when I feel like it so it gets a little shaken up, but I keep it clean and make sure it doesn't over heat.

What caused your problems? I mean, if it was literally son'y incompetence then I can understand, but if it breaking down was a result of you over heating it or something then it's not really Sony's fault...

no offense but you either take care of that thing like shit or you have a super hot room...

1 or 2 times is accidental..but when your having it break that many times, its not their fault i would say
I always take care of my consoles as best as I can. I never drop them, turn them off inproperly nor do I ever let them gather dust in their vents. I have no idea why the ps3 dies on me so much. I don't think it's because the room I put it in is too hot. It's mostly at a constant 15 degrees. I just freakin' hate Sony's tech support. They're so disrespectful and simply try to keep complaint calls out.
hmm well idk, it could be a massive number of things that play into that, which im not doubting you on the sony tech part, they probably do try and get you to go away as best they can in the most aggravating of way

but honestly the ps3 is a decently designed piece of hardware so i dont know whats wrong or if you really just have that bad of luck. i know a few people who have had theirs dropped from about 6 feet in the air (they were drunk) and it still worked fine magically

Any good economist (i.e. Clark Howard) will tell you that paying for an extended warantee on any electronics is a waste of money.
My PC disagrees.
But you wallet does. Any electronics comes with a factory warantee of 6mo to 1yr. You pay $X to extend that warantee. After one year, (or even 6 months) you computer/eletronic is typically worth less than the $ you paid for the extended warantee. Electronics depreciate GREATLY, to the point that they have lost almost all value after less than a year. You could buy a computer with your specs (after a years time) for the price you paid for the warantee.

The exception to this is usually long term appliances like hot water heaters and HVAC, as and extended warantee on these items is usually 10-15 years and usually inexpensive. Cars, are a little different. Some economists say extended warantees are good on cars, others disagree. I got one on my vehicle because it was essentially free and I plan to drive it for about 10 years (like I did my last one).

Seriously, about every economist out there will tell you aviod extended warantees on electronics like the plague.

I actually regularly cleaned my ps3. I only played for about 4 hours a day on it, which I think is perfectly normal. If it can't handle 4 hours a day, then I'd say the design is flawed. My pc can go for 72 hours straight and it won't even struggle. Not that I do that of course, but it happened once. If a ps2 can outlast a ps3 regarding playtime, then I believe Sony royally f'ed up a system. Hardcore gamers play alot, so it should be able to keep up. I always made sure my ps3 was turned off correctly and when it was on standby, I'd switch it off with the power button. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong because I have no idea.

Except for the fact if something in my PC breaks (which it did... alot) I get the best of the new range?

Edit - I probably saved at least £400, excluding the fact that I got upgrades.

Seems like you just have bad luck, this is the only case of this I have ever heard of like this. I wouldn't condemn the console or the company for this, seems like you just have some really bad luck or really lazy people taking care of your problems when you take in your console to get it fixed.

The PS3's failure rate is significantly lower than the XBox 360's though... You must be making up a pretty large percentage of broke PS3s by now :p Sorry about your luck though mate.

Alright, I'd really like to know something...

What causes a PS3 to die in the first place? I haven't had any problems with mine -knock on wood- but I'd just like to know if anything specific makes it die. Unless it's just random. o_O

Just thought I'd come on here and point out that MS's 3 year warranty is free. But, live you have to pay for. You win some, you lose some.
Yes but RROD on your 360 I believe is a lot more common than your ps3 breaking down.
Not anymore. The RRoD that was caused by faulty hardware in the first 360's is all but a bad memory now which has been fixed and is non-existent in the new consoles, especially the new 120GB Elites. If by some miracle you still your 2005 Xbox 360 then I doubt it's next RRoD will be a result of faulty hardware; probably just a sign that it's been hanging on for a long while and requires replacement.

This will not end well...
Mines been faithful to me for a year, so I'm hoping it will continue to do so. Not bad for a used one.
I think I'll be selling mine when I move in with my boyfriend anyway. We don't need 2 PS3's :p

Huh? My original controllers work perfectly. My new Dualshock one i got the next day also works perfectly and has never once crapped out. They did the controllers fine.

The controllers are also identical in appearance with the exception of the PS button.
First of all, just because your controllers work fine doesn't mean other people don't have problems with theirs.

Secondly, the PS3 controller is way too light, the original had no dualshock, and the L2 / R2 button/triggers feel terrible on the hands. They fucked them up and I'm not the only one with that opinion. That's what they get for half-assing it though, considering the 'boomerang' model controllers were scrapped with less than 6 months to go before launch.

360 controllers are the best controllers of this generation; if only they had the PS3 controller's battery :).

Well, I'm glad to see you've failed to come up with any good counterpoints to my argument and instead have resorted to mockery. Great show of intelligence there.

Remind me not to reply to your crap anymore.

Naw. I got a separate 7 year warranty on in, So I'm good ;
Not that the PS3 has ever showed any signs of breaking.
Unlike my old 360, which is why I now have a ps3.

Counterpoints?

Have I already said i like my controllers? Yes.
Have i alreayd said I feel no difference? Yes.

Are you nit picking in an attempt to make me 'wrong'? Yes.

I have already said I like my controller. I obviously don't feel the same way as you, i obviously don't think they were pieces of shit like you do. I made that clear in my last post.

Remember this one?

So should i have just copy and pasted my last response?

Or should have i started flaming the 360 controller?

Should I have just restated what i already said in different words?

Or was it right to dismiss you like i did to try and stop this from becoming a PS3 Vs 360 flame war when this is about PS3 extended warranties that everyone already got bored of.
