.01% of all PS3's apparently get the YLoD so in the large scale that's pretty good, solid chance that the PS3 you get will work

You just wait, the PS3'll give it to the wii and then we'll have a real love triangle issue.
lol

On topic: Stuff gets old man. if you got it 2 and a half years ago, this was bound to happen.

I've had a ps3 for four years. I heard that you can only get the yellow light if you're an idiot and leave the ps3 in a space with no air circulation, or leave it running constantly until it basically melts.

So far I've had no problems with my PS3, but since my friend got the YLoD during a thunderstorm, I have a strict proceedure to prevent this from happening.

  • 1. Never play during thunderstorms, and if possible avoid standard rain to.
    2. Always check up what the firmware update does before updating it.
    3. Whenever an update is ready for a game, look it up and see what it does.
    4. Sing it sweet lulubies to sleep Don't mess around with it.
    5. Don't smash it and keep minimal colateral damage.

Follow these 5 easy steps, and your PS3 won't get the Why-Loed! Money back, guaranteed! Trust me, it's not as hard as it seems.

huh??? dude i've left my PS3 on for almost a week one time and this has never happened

... it's prolly a software error
I almost never turned my ps3 off first when i got it.Didn't overheat until recently.
i think it's because i have a wooden floor and my PS3 has lots of room around it

.. the PS3 can run 24/7 if it's allowed room to let its cooling system work properly

Damn PS3's whoring around with the 360's. Thats what you get when you have unprotected online connections..

Well at least the Wii is still nice and innocent... Till it catches the Green light of armageddon
I hear that's what's actually going to happen on the winter solstice in 2012, the Mayans saw it coming.

Great, I was hoping the PS3 wouldn't suffer from a form of RROD but I guess I was wrong.

So, basically, the only gaming devices that are safe from CRITICAL ERRUR THROW OUT TO GARBAGE are the handhelds and PC... Leet.

I think its because you got the cheap 60 gig, should have gotten a launch 80 gig, the blu-ray diodes were changed on the 60's after the price drop and they are much lower quality than the original components, and are very pron to failure under the right conditions

Those older one's are notorious for that. I'm not sure if there's anything you could do short of sending it back

My PS3 overheated the other day and now when attempting to power up, a yellow light flashes briefly and then flashes red repeatly. Is there any way to correct this without sending the system away for six+ weeks? It is a 60gig system bought new in Janurary of 07, if that makes a difference. Can anybody help please?
Please can you give details of how long it was on what you were playing, where the console was situated (heat sources round it) so others can avoid this. I very much don't want to lose my backwards compatibility.

Thanks

Sadly, no. It was a dark, and rainy day. The car battery was dead, and I was stranded in the center of a dark, grueling pit of hell.. Aka, my aunt's house.
