For several years now we have been blessed by the presence of the PSP, but as I said several years. In technology , thats a whole lifespan and then some. I beleive that pretty soon Sony will start dropping rumors about a new PSP.I fthere is a new PSP what features do you think will be added onto it. Personally I beleive it will have a touch screen. With the DS and the Ipod touch selling so well, a new handhold system like the PSP 2 would seem weak in comparison. Thoughts?

Not too soon I think. They're already in their second redesign. Anything new now and they would be walking the same path Sega did.

It's been time to upgrade to the PSP2 for awhile now, and the main thing they need, more than any other hardware perk, even more than the second nubbin, is developer support. I can currently carry around the must have titles for the PSP in my coat pocket and still have room for my sunglasses and a pair of gloves.

I'll admit to not being really sure what a console development cycle involves, but what is killing the PSP and the PS3 at the moment is the perception that the games library is lacking. If Sony can hold release of the unit until you have at least seven must have titles spanning a minimum of three genres, and three of which must have franchise names that we know attached to them (a la MGS: Portable Ops or GoW:CoO), I think it would have a much better lifetime showing.

I assume that it would be much easier to have titles developed for an already wildly successful console. And I believe that putting it out early and planning to fill in the library later will hurt them if they try it again.

Hmm i see your point. And maybe a new PSP wouldn't be the best idea but prehaps a newer version of the psp. Like an upgrade. The DS and PSP were both released in 2004, and until the Wii came out it beat the DS in sales. But if sony mady an upgrade to the system, that might help improve it's sales. After all, pretty soon the DS will have had 2 upgrade systems.

you are right The PSP is lacking in third party games, and it's easy for developers to overlook the PSP, because with all the consoles they say "we need to make games for the consoles because that's where evreyone is buying" So I think an upgraded PSP would be a smart move so it would remind everyone that PSP is still a good place to play handheld games.

Sony was doing a survey about a month or so ago inviting people to discuss what hardware/software features they'd like to see on a new generation of PSP.

I very much doubt a PSP2 will ever come to fruition, and if it does, I can't see it doing that well. Nintendo have had the market wrapped up for over twenty years, and now Apple are set to sweep Sony out of handhelds too. Whoever heard of a Metal Gear game only coming out on a non-Sony console (other than the NES)

HI DEF! :-D, I just bought a psp and its a bit strange reverting back to older graphics of GTA LCS and the like. I'd also like better buttons as the current one feels a bit clunky, Maybe a just a stretched PS controler with a screen in the middle, though that might comprimise portability.

P.S. Should i have bought the 3000 model instead of the 2000

I plan to get a PSP-3000 or 2000 soon to replace my fat psp; the psp has served me well even without homebrew and the like for 3-4 years, and I am sure the PSP 2 will be a decent handheld as long as the game developer bother to create games for it. It's annoying that during the PSP life cycle, there was only one Tekken game, no original "traditional" FF game, no FRONT MISSION for the PSP.

I wish more PS exclusives would have a side game for the PSP and eventually, for the PSP2.

They did do that Gamecube remake, The Twin Snakes. And Metal Gear: Ghost Babel for the GBC, which was actually a surprisingly good game, given how limited it was. Average reviews of 96%.

I'd buy it if they came out with a PSP with a second nub. I enjoy playing the first person shooters online with only one nub, even though the acrobatics cause my hands to hurt after about 30 minutes, so that would be a great help.

What they really need to do is start releasing more PS1 content once they add that second nub. I'd love to have some of those old fighters, Armored Core, FF7 and FF8 (I think 8 was PS1), Legends of Legaia, what's it called...Crash Team Racing. I don't know, any of those games. Release them for a few bucks and I'd be all over that.

I admit I haven't logged into the store with my PSP in a while but last time I found Tekken which provided me with many train rides worth of entertainment even if it was a little clunky. And before that Twisted Metal provided me with even more entertainment, I even played that one on the PS3 with my brother. They were both a little annoying because of the control setup but certainly playable even if not easily playable.

They should add REAL duel analog sticks.
Also, don't screw us Sony. I got a PSP under 6 months ago and now they expect me to get another one
this soon. At least let us trade in our old ones for like a $150 discount.

They won't be coming out with a PSP 2 for a long time. As a matter of fact some time next year or at the very least, near the end of this year, the PSP 4000 model is due to come out. What they will implement in it I do not know, but sony does not plan on a PSP2 for at least another 2 years. I have had my 2000 for a year now and I couldn't be happier with a big library of games that I love an enjoy, and at least a dozen future games that I am looking forward to.
(I got a nice big list of games on a word file somewhere in case anyone is interested in some future releases)

Now as for features in the PSP2 if and when it comes out?
-2 analog sticks is a given and will be implemented due to the amount of bitching sony has heard.
-Internal memory for game saves...somewhere around 4-8 gig's would be nice, maybe more
-backwards compatibility I hope, if not, give us the ability to register our UMD games and give us a means to save them on memory sticks so we are able to play our old games.
-Touch screen. I wouldn't mind it, but I wouldn't care if they didn't put it in.
-Blue tooth wireless and better connectivity, maybe a longer radius
-licensed home brew. Let people submit their ideas and USE them sony!!
-Better web browser with flash support able to play youtube. This is what i would LOVE for my PSP and would truly make it complete for me
-use the RAM, although I see this happening in the 4000 perhaps. Right now it 64mb, 128 or 256 would be more than enough for web browsing and games.
-Updated graphics is probably a given even though they are pretty damn good right now
-The rest would be firmware updates but I would love a function that allws you to play your music while playing a game.

Thats a pretty nice list of features their, but I doubt they are going to allow homebrew. Theirs nothing wrong with it and it's actually a good idea, but they probably won't. To allow everyone to be able to make their own programs for a system like this just screams the word "hack". IT would only be amatter of time before someone makes something that could really mess up the PSP.

They don't have a chance in hell against the monster that is Nintendo if they made a new one. The PSP was a bit of a flop for Sony anyway.
The fact that it's still supported, even lightly (allegedly), is proof enough that they're competition for Nintendo. Part of the reason for all the multimedia functions of the DSi is probably a result of the PSP having multimedia functions.

As for possible functions of the PSP2, the standard stuff that's been said before. I've been meaning to get a PSP some time but I'm to lazy and I want to scrounge money.
