Well with the recent coming of skyrim I wondered about something, Being right handed shields are nearly always formatted for the left, However my question is if your Left handed would you prefer your sword in the left and shield in the right. Does it extend to the game, And actually impact the game play. Would the ability to reformat the shield to right and weapon to left be better for you?

I honestly don't know, As a right-handed gamer I have always had the default. And don't know if it would impact me otherwise.

EDIT: My poll was ate.

I'm not left handed but since you can Dual Wield in Skyrim I think there will be an option to choose what you have in which hand.

I'm not left handed, but that made me think of a question. Could you have a shield in both hands? If so, it would be like Call of Duty riot shielding all over again...

Not really. I've been playing games so long that I've gotten used to everything assuming I'm right handed (as with most other things in life), it can be a bit awkward at first but its easy to compensate. Perhaps for more casual gamers or someone just getting into Skyrim's kind of game it might be a nice feature.

But I'm not getting Skyrim anyway so... bit of a moot point perhaps :p

As a left-hander, having games always assume I'm right handed isn't that noticeable. Especially since it's not like I have to pantomime my attacks, just press a button. That said, I will probably be trying Skyrim as a left-handed swordsman just to see if there's a huge difference.

Meh. It's not that bad. I didn't want Skyrim in the first place, but that sounds interesting.

I'm left-handed, and the only things that have ever given me problems for being left-handed were baseball gloves and most stores growing up simply not carrying left-handed baseball gloves. Nothing else, games included, has ever been a problem for me in that regard.

Though I suppose for the right-handers out there, I can ask if anyone found it unusual playing Link as a lefty in the 3-D Zelda games? :p

I'm left handed and it has never bothered me at all but im games where I get to choose I tend to put my weapon in my left hand.

I'm ambidextrous, so I think I have to dual wield! Or dual shield!

It honestly would have no impact on gameplay, given that you're typically pressing a button. If they included PS3 Move and 360 Kinect support, on the other hand, that could. Not with the Move controller, because if you really were interested in using it for a game you'll sink so much time into, it'd be a matter of holding the ball controller in your left hand. The Kinect, however, would present a bit of a pickle in that regard.
Either way, I have no real preference. If they did add the option to set your weapon=left and shield=right, it'd be a nice touch, but as I'm not left-handed, I'm not all too concerned regardless. I imagine most left-handed players wouldn't be overly concerned, either, since they've mostly been forced to adapt over the years.

Still pretty unlikely. It is exceedingly rare to see said feature (I can't think of a single game off the top of my head that includes it), even in games where dual-wielding is a given. Just about every game, whether you can dual-wield or not, is simply defaulting the left hand as your "off-hand".

Were I to take up sword-fighting for real, I would certainly want to do it left-handed. It would be unexpected, and make me feel special.

As far as games go, I'm used to everything being on the right hand side. I use the mouse with my right hand, and my sword/staff/spear/gun is always in my (digital) right hand.

Were the option to be left-handed there, I would take advantage of it; it was pretty cool being left handed in Ocarina of Time. But it wouldn't make any significant difference, not to me at least.

I remember reading an interview saying you could dual shield. I don't remember them saying how it would work out for attacking though

An interesting side note is that I've known a lot of right handed people that used southpaw control schemes for shooters and almost no lefties. They all usually have the same reason, Goldeneye

I believe they've said that Shield-Bashing is an attack, although I really wonder how effective it would be in a two-shield load-out.

As for me being a lefty, I do engage in the following:

-Hold Wiimote with left hand, nun-chuck with right
-If I have the option, set weapon sidedness in FPSs to left
-Use DS stylus with left hand.

However:

-Mouse is always on my right hand for any and all PC uses
-I never use 'Southpaw' configurations in console games.

I think I,ll stick to the right handed sword.
I use my mouse with my right hand and it would look awkward having a sword in my left hand.
or I could dual wield dagger,s.
also I,m left handed but use a mouse in my right hand since I was a small kid.

I'm left handed, but I play right handed. It's just easier for me, everything else I do is left handed though.

Also since I've done medieval re-enactments, my shield would go on my right arm, and the sword in the left. But I never bothered with a shield, just went for a claymore instead.
Who needs defense when you have incredibly long reach?

with the exception of weapon sidedness I have the exact same settings.
I also don,t use the GH lefty flip.
