Unless you are absolutely sure of the integrity of the teacher/club, I'd say go for one of the styles that have been popular in the West for a long time and are more established, like Judo. This is because they've had more time to weed out the pretenders and wannabes, of which there are a lot in the MA world. Not trying to bash any style here, but the newer (in Western terms) or more exotic styles generally has a higher percentage of people who talk a lot of shit but don't know much, because fewer people know what to expect from them.

My vote goes to Judo. I did a year when I was younger and it was quite enjoyable.

You may want to look in to Parkour as a means to keep fit and train your body. It's quite popular in Europe and you should have no problems finding a group to jam with.

I really can't stress how much I mean this, but for god's sake, do yourself a favor and take up Muay Thai, commonly known as Thai boxing. It's great for fitness and will make you feel much more secure once you get the hang of it, the kicks don't necessarily take a lot of flexbility or agility, particularly not at first, but they can be frighteningly powerful. After a year or so of Muay Thai, you should look into more diverse MMA, something like a combination of Muay Thai, Greco-Roman wrestling and brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Start. Tommorrow.
