It's a sad fact of life that the "lunatic fringe" of a community tends to be the most outspoken, thus garnering the most attention from outsiders. This is true for any subject, be it politics, video games, or television shows like MLP. To borrow a political catchphrase, there tends to be a "silent majority" that are (mostly) rational human beings.

But yes, in case you actually aren't a troll and you weren't playing thread-Iago and trying to gently prod us into civil flamewars, as every it's the loud minority misrepresenting the majority. The only people who know I watch the show have asked me or have spoken about the show around me and I've chipped in. I don't kick down the tree-house door of every other fandom and scream at them for not being in my tree-house.

Idunno. I guess you've been getting your brony news from the wrong places. Sure, there's some fans that pretty much absorbs "bronydom" as their life, and they'll get defensive when someone criticizes it, because, well, they're in turn criticizing their way of life.

But rest assured, they are few. Us here on the escapist are actually pretty chill about it all.

I can second that. The only time I've come even close to being irritated is when my father keeps using it against me as some sort of negative. Even if there's no connection.

But really, as others have said - it's not only bronies that do that.

Not EVERY Fandom, there are two exceptions.

First The Sonic Fandom: The usual 'vocal minority' are in-fact the Majority.

Second The Berserk Fandom which...i shall explain through the Magic of song. Gather round brothers and sisters and feel free to sing along! -takes out guitar and starts playing-

Hello, gigantic self-labeled "brony" here.
I think you're taking the actions of a small minority of the fandom and assuming they're the actions of all, and we are by no means the only fandom that does that, we're just really big, kind of popular right now, and we're into something that seems odd on the exterior.

Also, I'll be honest with ya, whenever something big comes up that makes us look bad I usually shrug or laugh it off because I find it hilarious that some people actually have so little to in their time that they resort to talking shit on a bunch of people who watch an odd TV show. What you think I'm gonna get upset by the words of Howard Stern or Fox news? HA! I ALREADY HATED THOSE GUYS! I don't care what they have to say, and anyone who's actually going to listen to them and think we're this eeeeeeevil subculture destroying America or something probably wasn't my friend to begin with.

Also, I don't really consider myself part of some some collective or big movement or whatever, I'm just some guy who watches a cartoon, and also enjoys fanfiction and fan art based on that cartoon, and isn't afraid to say so (I'm actually wearing a T-shirt right now).

I'm a guy who likes a show, nothing more, nothing less.

I have a question for Bronies. How come when ever someone or something "offends" Bronies or the community at large the whole sub-culture flies into a rage and attacks everyone and everything in sight? Now I have never watched or care to watch My Little Pony ever, I love Adventure Time. I dont label myself as "Non-Brony" and I dont really care if you label me a such. I just wanna know why Brony are always so defensive?

Most likely a mix of self fulfilling prophecy and biased learning. First you come into this thread making an accusation due to your preconceived bias, which in almost any situation would result in a defensive response, when people respond defensively you get your biased learning reinforced. Another factor is that people tend to remember the negative vs. the positive, heck most of the positive reinforcement comes from the sheer number of people not responding defensively or even responding at all to this thread, but most likely what you will carry from this is Bronies are still defensive.

It's pretty rooted in psychology, but it's a fun experiment to dissect

The minority ruins it for the majority. That isn't something confined to Bronies

Exactly and this is the case for pretty much everybody.

Like how the majority of people got pissed off with Saarkesian, then some of the morons decided to send her threats, therefore giving her more credibility and support.

Like how a lot of people disliked the Mass Effect 3 ending, but some people had to drag it way out of proportion which made everybody who hated it look childish.

There are childish people in all communities, it's only noticeable amongst bronies because that's the "big thing" right now.

Personally I don't give a damn if you think bronies are over sensitive, kinda because statements about bronies in general I don't bother getting mad about. Life is too short for that. I don't spend enough time in the community to confirm or deny, but since you might call me a brony and I'm not bothered by hate towards the community, take that as you will.



Hell, I don't even call myself a Brony. I like the show, but I'm not one of those merchandise buying, fanfic reading/writing Bronycon attenders. If you still wanna call me one then go ahead but I'd rather just distance myself from the group.

I have been attacked by broneys before for saying I don't find the show good and I don't much care about, and I am completely fine with writing that off as a small bit of the community. But the majority that dose exist, don't do anything about it witch makes them just as bad or worse in my opinion. As Albert Einstein said "The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it."

As far as I am concerned he is complacently within his rights to make this "broad generalization" if you are willing to let this stuff happen. I was haranged by 3 guys at once for saying I didn't care about the show and making a joke about it. 10 people didn't do anything to stop them one guy did, hats off to him, but those 10 people where just as bad as the people haranging me about it.

I got onto a bit of a ramble there but point being if you are not trying to stop the bad parts of the community, you're just as bad. This statement goes for more than just Broneys.
