Question of the Day, April 6, 2010

Nintendo put the kibosh on a fan-made Pokemon MMOG, to the surprise of absolutely no one. Would you play a Pokemon MMOG?

Definitely. It's horribly unlikely, but the next best thing to travelling the world with a team of magical monsters in your pockets is doing it on the internet.
Too bad all the fan projects have been rather iffy, if they manage to actually launch and not get shot down.

I would certainly give it a try, but how often I'd play and whether I would stick with it or not would depend on what sort of experience it was. A pokemon MMO wouldn't necessarily need to be a full featured MMO, but it would need more to it than just standing around battling eachother.

HELL YES I WOULD!!!!! Go, Eevee-lution team - minus Glaceon ;).

Heh, I just love Dark and Psychic Pokemon too much to get rid of Umbreon. Espeon would be my fave though, and I prefer Grass to Ice types anyway...

But yeah, I'd play a Pokemon MMO if I could. There needs to be one where it's like the anime, rather than the main game series. If we could battle in real-time, then that would be great, and being able to go to all the places from the anime as well as the games would be awesome. Like exploring the Orange Archipelago and whatnot, and having environments rendered like the anime too would be the icing on the cake :D.

I play too offensively to use Umbreon.

I can just see how a pokémon MMO would work out. I'm sure it'd only be a matter of days before my guild would kick me out because I didn't correctly EV train my pokémon the way everyone else does, or gave it a different move set than the elite people do.

Yeah, I'll pass.

I definitely haven't been dreaming of it, but it would be a lot of fun as long as the playability lasted. It would definitely be PvP heavy, and I bet they'd have to do some actual balancing of something, but other than that it could be a lot of fun.

What I'd LOVE to see done is a sort of Gym Master setup where you can defeat a gym master and then become that master - then you could be challenged yourself by other players or something along those lines, and perhaps be forced to defend your title every so often.

However, I'd also like to see some group stuff, which Pokemon never really had. It would be hard to fit that into the world given how solitary a lot of it is, but it would still be neat.

Given my lack of commitment to MMOs (with the exception of Guild Wars), and my utter dislike of Pokemon I'd have to say no. But that's not to say a Pokemon MMO isn't a good idea, hell it would be a GREAT idea and that type of game really fits Pokemon well. It has a lot of potential for really good PvP battles that aren't horribly simplistic and boring, and it could have some neat dungeon and pokemon quests.

As much as I hate everything regarding pokemon, I can still acknowledge its massive potential to break out of its horribly stagnent and boring state and expand into something truely worth praise and greatness.

I think it could work really, really well.

Shame it will never happen!
