There always overpriced and it really pisses me off when they're just taken out of the original game and sold back for more profit (Halo reach maps). That said if they're cheap or free I love them.

Bungie has the right idea. Charge for them at first (2/3 of what Activision does), then make them free when the new maps come out. Epic does a pretty good job with them, too.

Activision, on the other hand... well, screw those guys and their week after release map packs. That's not community support. It's greedy bastardry.

Comparing this to PC modding: It's usually free. Map packs, often made by players, you can download and go.

But I don't get any of the console ones because they keep pricing them.
That's not good.

I'd love for them to be free, but it doesn't look like that'll happend for a while.

I guess I'm spoiled by Valve.

Well, I don't really play multiplayer matches much; I like to be able to play with friends in the same room, preferably on the one console (Raagh, whatever happened to 4 player split screen? and why did LP2 screw up it's split screen so hard?). However, I do find some pricing and such to be ridiculous (12 maps for $45, some of them possibly being old ones WaW?) and most of the time the developers make good enough maps that to include the new ones that were never there in the first place is redundant.
But like other people, if they're free, I support it and therefore would download it, and a community based map making thing would be a great thing to have. Showing how much talent the consumers have, and possibly inspiring companies to build and improve on their games, while the community gets more variety.

Personally I miss older games that had a good eight to ten maps per game type, as opposed to twelve maps that serve all purposes.

I don't like the price at all. I understand that the team working on these new maps are probably not the entire team from before, but still, I don't want to pay 1/6 the price I paid for a 8-10 hour at least single player (consider this half the game for the sake of the argument) with 12 maps, 10 characters and 5 game modes for no hours of single player, 3 maps, 2 characters, and no new game modes. It makes no sense, and while it might expand the amount of time I spend on one online game, I'm the sort that will move on to another game sometime in the year rather than solely focusing on the multiplayer of just 1 game.

TF2 has proven that charging only for the base game and then making all later content completely free is a viable business model. (Mann Co. Store not withstanding; you don't ~have~ to spend money for the privileged to play with the new toys.)

Because map packs are way too expensive for the content given imho. Just another way to make a lot of money at a very low cost... as if the gaem itself wasnt expensive enough.

I prefer when the community can create and add their own maps.

I think map packs should be left to the community, and downloaded for free, but that's just me.
